Even tho this repair was not a success, it highlights problems of trying to do your own board level repair in this modern era, and that is value in itself. We should value repair, or else junk will burry us.

For anyone stumbling upon this page, replacing the 330uH inductor on the logic side fixed mine. I had a constant high pitched screeching noise that devolved into a high pitched screeching noise and no boot up. after replacing the inductor, the sound bar started booting again and works. if its left off, itll screech for a while (probably charging up power) but this sound goes away. imo, turn off eco mode for this.

This was my problem too--- getting bad coil whine from the 330 inductor. No one else could hear it but it drove me crazy. Parts are available on ebay/amazon. This video shows the same issue. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6h5p7CYc8-3XZc.html

Me too, exactly the same model and same problem at 13 months. I own two other Visio sound bars of different sizes which still work. You saved me the pain of trying to DIY. Other than this failure, the biggest issue I have with Visio sound bars is volume adjustment. For me, the volume increments are too wide, so either the volume is too low or too high. Annoying. At this point I'm not sure what to do. I knew from buyer comments that this might happen - and it did, so I was warned but kept going anyway. The low price got me. Maybe next time I'll opt for the warranty. For Vizio products, that's a good idea.

I did the same thing as you... I had mine for 5 years. I made a custom bracket. Took the time to clean up the wiring. Hooked it up and played Bluetooth music today, at low volume levels. I went to switch to the TV input and she was dead. No LEDs. No smoke. No noise. It has 24V DC on the output of the power supply board. But there seems to be a direct short on the logic/amp board.

I know this video is 3 years old, but I was having the same issue and here's how I fixed it. I can't gaurentee this will fix other people's issues, but it solved mine. I have a Samsung 7100 series TV with a vizio 5.1 soundbar plugged in through HDMI ARC. I had the same issue where my soundbar would not turn on. I got so fed up I actually went out and bought a new soundbar. Low and behold, exact same problem with the brand new soundbar. Made sure everything was set properly (cec was turned on) and could not get soundbar to turn on. So here's what I did that solved the problem. On my TV the hdmi 3 is the arc input. On my remote I hit source which brought up hdmi 1, 2 and 3. I went over to hdmi 3 (arc) hit the edit button and assigned "home theater" to the hdmi 3 input. This seemed to "turn on" the arc input and I've had absolutely no issues since doing this. The soundbar turns on and off with the TV now. I hope this helps someone. I'm not super tech savvy, just telling you what fixed my issue

Had the same problem with the same exact model. Happened about 10 months into having it. Pisses me off that it did not last one year. And the hassle of returning it, waiting for it to then probably burn again it not worth the hassle. No more Vizio for me. I spent a lot off time looking for a sound bar, I was happy with the sound so I was hesitant to throw it away. This video helped me move on. That woman had no clue how to help you aside for saying we replace it. $400 dollars down the drain. NO MORE vizio for me.

Same problem here. I took it a few steps further and found the root cause to be an open winding on the primary (D1) side of the oscillator transformer. Unfortunate that Vizio can"t get their act together for a simple replacement power supply. The sound bar sounds really good when its working (with an external 24VDC 5Amp power supply).

Same thing happened to my Sound Bar and it is out of Warranty - power supply 24V DC reaches the logic board. I was able to test the individual speakers out as well. All the current Chinese and Korean TV AV makers have this problem of throwing mostly good items away v/s repairing it. I work for Amazon and I am going to take it personally to get this changed via amazon prime certified repairable items. This needs to stop.

I have the SB-4551-D5 -- worked for almost 4 years, then an outage during the recent storm appears to have done damage to it. When I plug it in, one white light in the bottom left corner comes on, but that's all I get. No sound, no response to button (on soundbar) or remote control presses, so I am not able to perform any sort of reset. What bugs me most is that the subwoofer and rear speakers, which I absolutely love, probably still work, but 2 separate support people told me to just get a new one. I don't quite have the technical/electrical know-how to verify whether or not it's even possible to fix on my end. Not sure what to do...any recommendations??

I got this system as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately, being super busy and in and out of hospital, today (Aug 30) is the first day I've been able to set up the system . Guess what? Does not power on. No lights, no sound, nothing. Called Vizio and explained my problem. They asked me to UNPLUG the soundbar and hold the power button for 5 seconds (????). Then plug it back in and try the power button. Well, surprise, still nothing. Asked me for the serial #, and told me what store it had been bought in but said they would need a receipt to help me. WHAT??? Obviously they know where it was bought and when, so why need a receipt? And after this long, I'm sure the gift giver no longer has the receipt either. Said I'd have to buy a whole new system because they don't sell separate components. Now I'm looking for just a soundbar; trying Amazon, etc. Did find this for you though: vizpartsdirect.com/category.php?belongTo=5886&type=p Actual main boards, power boards, speakers, etc, for the soundbars.

totally agree with Robert H, i have a dead SB3851 just out of warranty and out of luck. I probed around the main board and found that none of the low voltage supply busses showed any voltage. The wireless module and ST main IC were both without power. The power supply board measure a constant 24 V.DC so that board looks good. Without schematics I'm just poking around blind. Looks like a common issue/design flaw. Anyone else have any luck with these boards?

Vizio has me power cycle and hard reset and nothing but the same issue. Customer care told me to throw away and repurchase . Lol really it’s only 5 years old. I’ve tested the power supply cord with another cord -same issue one light powers on. Subwoofer 🔊 is powered in as well and connected - no I don’t have it on mute - none of buttons have responded. This throw away society is driven by choppy engineering and consumer based corporations that pocket the exponential sales on products that don’t last. Cheaply manufactured- great sounding-but no longevity.

I find the whole idea of throwing away any electronics when the fault may be very small annoying, as a technician (telecomms / radio / TV / Satcomms / fibre systems / computer) and Amateur Radio Operator this goes against the grain. As I am retired from the workforce I get so many cries for help to fix things most of the time I can repair the things presented to my desk but suppliers of speakers and other consumer electronics do not care and live in a throwaway mentality. Yes this ham actually goes down to component level if needed with computer motherboards etc. I do enjoy your videos keep them coming. Cheers from Perth (Western Australia)

I've used mine, the older model with slanted soundbar, for 2+ years and it works great. I bought the newer one like this one, and it went bad as soon as we hooked it up at xmas. the problem is I bought it 3 months earlier as a refurb and only 3mo warranty...out $200 unfortunately

Do not buy a Vizio Sound Bar. The sounds just stops. Then you are left with a piece of worthless junk. Vizio will walk you through resets that do not work. Then they will offer you a 25% discount to purchase another Sound Bar. Why would one want to purchase another Vizio when they stop working after a year and a half?
