Vizio Sound Bar Not Powering Up (SB3851-OC)

My attempt to troubleshoot my Vizio sound bar that ceased working about a year after I got it as a gift from my brother. Was able to determine that the power supply board was functioning and putting out 24VDC as it should, and that the problem lay somewhere in the amplifier/control board. I searched around quite a bit and was unable to find a replacement for that board, and don't see troubleshooting the individual components as a practical way to go, especially without any kind of diagrams to go off of. But by following what I did here, you can at least disassemble the bar and test the power supply, although I don't know that it is worth it, the problem I found seems to be very common. I would be wary of this particular model, go with another Vizio model (they DO sound quite good, when working) or another brand altogether, as there are many stories out there of this same thing happening to others with this model. Seems the life expectancy is generally anywhere from 3 months to 3 years. I would also be wary of any used replacement boards out there, as they are likely original equipment, and therefore also likely prone to failure. This guy Kevin has a great video on this as well. • VIZIO SB3851-C0 SOUNDB... He found the same issue in the end, and was troubleshooting the same model. NOTE I realized after doing this that the power buttons on the bar are wired into the amp/control board, so it makes sense they were not functioning as I had that board disconnected while troubleshooting. So disregard that little part.

Dangit... same issue with mine and I was hoping for a reset button / quick fix or something. Looks like I'm heading to Amazon for a replacement. Thanks for saving me the time!!
Check C21 & C22 capacitors.

mine did the same exact thing. But yesterday lights all lit up it turned on and off fine and today when I turned it on it's not working working
Could I bypass the power supply board with a wall wart? 12 or 24 volts?
Same issue with mine, except I'm reading 30v off the power supply. Not sure if that's in range or not, my assumption is yes though.
Never really used mine. Used when I first got it, to see if it worked. When I finally tried to use it , it did not work. Only had about 3 months.
Show us the thin piece of metal. I did take the speaker out in my sony bar
The power button gets stuck also there could be a bent or exposed wire in the power supply cord my power button got stuck it stayed depressed and just needed to have silicone or graphite rubbed on it those buttons get sticky because our children mash down on those power buttons especially if they dont see the lights or hear the music maybe they mashed on it trying to find the setting , mine did!
did you figure out what it was? I knocked mine off the dresser yesterday and it wouldn't power back up

These soundbars seem cheap-my sb3651 died after a little over a year and vizio can’t help me

I bought one from Sam's on May 2, 2020 and it died this week. Did everything to try and power up but nothing worked. Call Vizio and did everything he told me to do which I had already done and nothing worked, so he told me I was out of luck because the warranty had expired.

@@margieisthecoolsgordon4539 exactly the same with me. Bought at Sam's Club, April 2020...it would randomly and consistently turn off (or on) by itself too. Paid 200.00 for about 16 months of entertainment...irritating

Bought same exact model nov 2020 and worked for about 13 months and just quit one day while watching tv… no power surge… no knocking it off my dresser… didnt get wet… wasn’t turned up loud… just powers of and no led anymore… never buying a Vizio again…

@@mebriner same, shit worked good when it did, contacted them & asked if I bought the protecting plan from sams. 1st time I didn’t buy a plan shit stopped working like they new it was going to stop after 2 years
