Vitamin D, government inaction

COVID-19 Mortality Risk Correlates Inversely with Vitamin D3 Status,
a Mortality Rate Close to Zero Could Theoretically Be Achieved at 50 ng/mL 25(OH)D3: (125 nmol/L)
Results of a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/13/10/...
Blood calcifediol (25(OH)D3) levels correlate strongly with SARS-CoV-2 infection severity
Cause or effect?
Strength of our immune system,
More or less neglected by the responsible authorities
Nutrition, physical fitness, recreation, sleep
Widespread vitamin D deficiency
Data collected March 2021
Methods
Systematic literature search
Retrospective cohort studies (1)
Clinical studies (7) on COVID-19 mortality rates versus D3 blood levels
Reported D3 blood levels pre-infection or on the day of hospital admission
Mortality rates, corrected for age, sex, and diabetes
Results
Negative Pearson correlation of D3 levels and mortality risk
r = −0.4154, p = 0.0770
r = −0.4886, p = 0.0646
Combined data
Median D3 levels were 23.2 ng/mL (58 nmol/L)
Pearson correlation = −0.3989, p = 0.0194
Regression suggested a theoretical point of zero mortality at approximately 50 ng/mL (125 nmol/L) D3
Conclusions
The datasets provide strong evidence that low D3 is a predictor rather than just a side effect of the infection.
Despite ongoing vaccinations, we recommend raising serum 25(OH)D levels to above 50 ng/mL

The extent to which governments and health officials have refused to discuss vitamin d deficiency is criminally negligent. Imagine where we could be today if people had been told 20 months ago to start supplementing with vitamin D (and exercising, eating healthier, and sleeping more, too). Vitamin D deficiency has been a consistent indicator of a bad outcome since the very beginning. Cheap, safe and effective. Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I still haven't fully verified if it's taking the vitamin D or just a placebo, but often when I do take it, my fatigue and exhaustion lessens sometimes entirely. I’ve smoked crack literally twice in my life. years before this visit to the hospital. i argued but he he thought that a tiny amount could make it to the lungs. i gave up arguing with him and refused all follow ups. he wanted to be right, not solve the problem. which he didn’t. i had some lupus antibodies, that’s literally the only interesting thing in my case. i should notify the hospital that that diagnosis was 100% garbage and i demand it be removed from my record and it was insulting for that level of ignorance to be shoved down my throat. it’s sad that i know more about that stuff than the doctor. how did i know? i googled it for 10 min, read diagnoses, looked at photos, symptoms, case reports….and none said that it could happen in two days, without smoking crack. i worry for his other patients.

Vitamin D/sun exposure is an interesting topic since so many people (including my whole family) have issues with skin cancer. If you use sunscreen, you block the vitamin D mechanism basically. They suggest in a book called "the Vitamin D advantage" to get 5-10 minutes sun exposure twice a week for starters. In this case I think the supplements are probably the way to go for most people.

I'd say it was 10x worse than the regular flu, for which I was still experiencing symptoms that lasted for nearly a month. My mother lives with me and has never been ill or experienced even the slightest of the symptoms that I did during the entire time. While I've been taking Vitamin D supplements for years, the pandemic prompted me to pay more attention to this matter. I kept taking it for the past two summers instead of skipping it like I did in the past. I've also had my Vitamin D tested on several occasions (using Everlywell's test kit), and I've found that 5000 IUs per day allows me to maintain a Vitamin D level in my target range of 60 to 80 ng/mL. (Remember: Your mileage may vary. You may need more or less.) I also eat natto every day (for Vitamin K2 MK7) and supplement with both Vitamin K2 MK7 and MK4. I also supplement with magnesium. (I make my own magnesium bicarbonate water from seltzer water and magnesium hydroxide.) I eat two Brazil nuts daily for the selenium. I'm avoiding all junk foods and restaurant foods, and I'm over 30 pounds lighter now than I was 20 months ago. While there's no substitute for vaccination, masking up, and physical distancing, these measures are not enough. Why hasn't nutritional immunology gone mainstream? Are bad diets and nutritional deficiencies sacred?

Vitamin D3 is a fat soluble vitamin. For an obese person to reach D3 sufficiency means saturating all of their fat with D3. That means taking 2-5 times more daily than recommended for a very healthy and fit, normal weight, pale skin toned, young person, which is who the 4000iu a day number is for. D3 absorption reduces with obesity, age, deeper skin tones, and auto immune conditions often have a D3 absorption issue in part. Every cell and tissue in the human body has D3 receptors, and those receptors need D3 for good immune health. D3 works better with Vitamin K2. K2 can be found in supplements, and in lacto fermented vegetables, like Sauerkraut and Kim chi, when eaten every day.

I used to work in Public Health (before it was PHE and now the Health Security Agency!). Back then prevention was the elephant in the room. To me, it is unfathomable that Vitamin D has not been included in all government and NHS advice. About a third of the UK population are deficient. But of course there are vested interests at play here. The lockdown and isolation keep people in doors (apart from those fortunate to have a garden) and thus away from the benefits of natural sunlight and for the isolated they cannot exercise. As a therapist, I am encountering many older people petrified to go out of their houses now and who get no exposure to natural light of any kind and are not taking Vitamin D supplements. This is also creating depression and all kinds of hypervigilant behaviours which are, I sense, the tip of the iceberg. Where are the studies researching how come certain people have not had the virus? Those might investigate Vitamin D levels, lifestyle, nutrition, food consumed and dietary choices, water consumption, sleep patterns, self care, exercise and generally how these people's immune system is performing. Ah but wait... no one gains from this kind of study so it probably wouldn't attract funding. No pharma products can be sold to a healthy, vital human. The person with a toxic free body and a contented mind is, I might suggest, unaffected by a pandemic. We have only had 125 years or so of pharmaceutical medicine and indeed great progress appears to have been made to improve human mortality. Nature provides much inspiration for these preparations. Natural remedies also have their place. But do we have a society with a truly healthy, contented, disease free life expectancy?

I went to a local vaccination drop-in centre today and asked if I could have the injection aspirated and was told they wouldn’t do it and there were risks involved (which weren’t explained). I can’t believe there is so much resistance over such a simple safety procedure. • @mjwilliamsb2676

The only way you'll get an aspirated jab is if you are lucky enough to have it done by a much older nurse who trained at least 25 years ago, when aspiration was taught as standard practice. That's assuming wherever you have your jab is not using auto dispose needles which makes aspiration impossible. I had a booster a week ago and was told they were not allowed to aspirate, and I noticed they were actually using auto dispose needles anyway. I rang round four different pharmacy organised vaccination centres first and was told none of the vaccinators did aspiration, so I went to the local one and asked the nurse - she gave the answer I said above so I had it without aspiration. No problems, luckily, not with any of the 3 jabs I've had. Bear in mind most people don't have severe events afterwards, even without aspiration, though I agree they should be using it.

Thank you for the info. Much appreciated doc. That this information has not being addressed &/or propagated by the authorities is not inexplicable & is understandable to a degree, however, the explanation+accepting it & understanding requires a substantial shift in understanding & perceptions.

Thank you for this important information, Dr. Campbell! Healthcare has become a very lucrative industry, captured by corporations and billionaire speculators. Unfortunately, we live in a time when we must arm ourselves with skeptical decision making skills, when deciding on what to do with our own bodies.

I offer a class called Nutrition, Health and Anti-Aging at the local university (simulcast on Zoom). I have been teaching that the optimal vitamin D3 blood level should be close to 50ng/ml (the recommend range is 40ng/ml - 70ng/ml). When I consult, I suggest supplemental amounts of D3 up to 10,000 IU daily. However, for the Vitamin K2, not just any kind with do. I suggest 100mcg of K2 (MK-7) or up to 1000mcg of K2 (MK-4), but I didn't see anything in the paper that clarified which type they are recommending.

I take 5mg of MK-4 per day, mk-7 isn't all that great imho.

@@inspiringminds7284 MK-7 has great bioavailability and a longer 1/2 life than MK-4. This means that if you choose MK-4 then you should take it in divided doses.

Thanks Dr. C for this information! We started taking our Vitamin D3 since the early days of this pandemic, based on your suggestion, when there was very little information. I'm pleased that this has proven to be so beneficial, and so DISAPPOINTED that the nations' leaders have NOT promoted this as a positive, inexpensive strategy to help combat this virus!

Doctors get almost no training on this at med school. They're told of the need for a low fat, high carb diet [which is somewhat dangerous] and the need for us all to take statins, that's it. Aside from a quick mention of VitD and rickets or VitC and scurvy, nothing else is covered according to my [Dr] brother.

I had a doctor like that and I got rid of him. He got on my nerves with how out-of-touch he is, strictly textbook... and he didn't have any time, he kept looking at his watch saying we're running out of time.

Well if you take too much vitamin d it can destroy your body- can make your bones crack, really hurt your kidneys and liver and like everything else. If your levels get too high over 80+ that becomes a risk, so I could see him being concerned in case you didn’t know how to use it

@@ThingsILikke Thanks for your concern. You would have to be taking large amounts of D3 to have it start causing harm. I truly believe the Covid problem is more of a concern than overdosing at this point.

It is good that some researchers put their effort at the point of "most benefit and least cost". Encouraging to know some of them has that honest mindset. Thanks John for clearly going through this important study.

Facebook would not let me share this. I am becoming more and more skeptical of our institutions. I would like to see a culture that promotes the health, well-being, individual freedoms, and the common good. Thank you, Dr, Campbell, for the investigative, honest, impartial examination of the research for solutions to this virus. Much gratitude and appreciation.
