Among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, pre-infection deficiency of vitamin D was associated with increased disease severity and mortality.
Low vitamin D status has been associated with a range of autoimmune, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases
Essential immunologic mediator
Inhibitory effects on pro-inflammatory cytokines,
TNF-alpha and IL-6
Epidemiological risk factors for vitamin D deficiency
Darker skin pigmentation
Low sun exposure
Skin-covering clothes
Sun creams
Diet low in fish and dairy products
An association between low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and an increased risk of acquiring influenza and respiratory viruses
Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, 2007 and 2020
Vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of acute respiratory infection as compared with placebos
Factors associated with poorer COVID-19 prognoses
Geographic location in northern countries
Older age
Black and minority ethnic groups
Obesity
Preexisting conditions, diabetes and hypertension
these risk factors are also independently associated with vitamin D deficiency

Thank you so much for highlighting this study! I am a massage therapist who worked saw 6 pts a day in a small unventilated room since May 2020 without catching covid. I took a couple class while in initial lockdown where I learned the importance of vitamin D. They also showed how zinc, curcumin, egcg and other nutrients could bind with ACE2 receptors and help block covid or at least reduce symptoms. This was all taught with the caveat that it was to help us protect ourselves "just until vaccines became available" of course, but When I read the trial data in the BMJ and saw that the Shots were only only going to be able to lower or prevent symptoms themselves I realized I would rather stick with the safer option of the vitamin D et cetera protocol. It may be of interest that I am also obese, over 50 years old, and already have an autoimmune disease and yetI have confirmed with antibody tests twice over the last few years that I have never contracted covid. All this time however I am scoffed at when I try to encourage people to raise their vitamin D levels even if they get the vaccine just to be extra safe. I am so thankful for people like you speaking up on this matter because maybe people will listen now.

I’ve been taking vitamin D daily since 2015. I was diagnosed with MS in 2008 and didn’t start treatments, because I was doing well and couldn’t deal with injection side effects. Around 2014, I started getting weird symptoms of immune stress, like my hair was falling out, skin lesions, etc. I couldn’t work anymore because of the fatigue, so I spent my days researching things that could help me. I came across a study on vitamin D, similar to what he promotes here and had docs test my levels. Almost non-existent. So I began supplementing immediately. It took a few months, but I did start to feel better and hair started growing back and my skin cleared up. So I’ve supplemented religiously since. I have been following the rona since late November 2019, when I watched some KZread videos on “flu in China”. Then when an optometrist noted it by messaging his colleagues on their message system, then suddenly disappeared, then couldn’t find the original videos I had watched on “a flu circulating China” as they’d been removed, then the doc resurfaced with a retraction to his statement made to colleagues, then ended up in ICU with the rona and passed away; I was deeply suspicious. To say the least. I told anyone that would listen about it, and all I got were eye rolls and “yeah yeah yeahs”, even my family told me I was taking it too seriously. So I upped my vitamin D levels, started excavating for a garden, stockpiling supplies and just lived my life. People wouldn’t even acknowledge that I warned them to be ready & that this was coming long before our government shut everyone down in the US. Sometimes, frequent worriers should be headed. I couldn’t have made a difference on a national scale, but I could’ve made one within my locality, if people had only listened.

Thank You, Doctor John! I'm here in the States and, thanks to you, Dr. Michael Cohen, Dr. Peter McCullough and Dr Roger Seheult, I got myself and my husband on 4K IUs of Vitamin D, K, and Zinc, along with Vitamin C. For years I've been told by my doctor my Vit D levels are slightly low. I think this meant below 20ng/mL since this STILL seems to be the recommended level. We both just got our vitamin D levels checked. Mine was 54.6ng/mL and my husband's was 46.8ng/mL. I was over the moon with the double dose of good news! I am so grateful for finding you and the others in the sea of misinformation and mixed messages. You each have offered such practical, timely, and vital information on prophylactic and early treatment of COVID for us. Between all of you I had a sound set of tools and resources to manage COVID early for best outcomes: Vitamin D, K, C, Zinc, sleep, hot and cold therapy, and nasal washing and gargling. I had it last month. It was like a bad cold. But I felt so empowered with my "COVID toolbox". In time ALL of you, and the rest of the doctors who committed themselves to saving lives, and sharing life-saving information will be on the right side of history! Thank you for all you do, AND for making complicated things easier to understand. You're the best! I'm a subscriber for life!💕

Having lived in Israel, I might comment on this remark in the paper: "The prevalence of the deficiency in Israel is similar to the prevalence found in less sunny regions." There is a reason for that. Israeli winters are its rain season, often dark and cloudy. Israelis don't get much sun then. Summers are extremely hot and dry. Except at the beaches, Israelis avoid it. Not much sun then either. I know. I did much the same. Once, hiking along a highway, I found myself crossing and recrossing the road to get a few moments of shade under trees. Conclusion: A sunny country does not guarantee high Vitamin D levels. What matters is how much time people spend in the sun.

At 2:04, in the general population 77.5% of women and 79.2% of men are vitamin D deficient. At 8:47, 87.4% of patients with severe or critical disease had less than 20 ng/mL. So basically 77.5% - 79.2% of the population make up 87.4% of those with severe to critical disease while 20.8% - 22.5% of the population make up 12.6%. So about 88.15% -> 20.8% of severe illness while 21.15% -> 12.6% of severe illness. 12.6*88.15/21.15/20.8 = 2.52 This means that increasing your Vitamin D reduces your risk of severe illness by a factor of 2.52, or by around 60.4%. Btw, also haven't taken the jab, have not had Covid once. My wife and I never got it. I was exposed to the second one by my worker. He had both shots so we thought it must be a cold. 8 hours a day for 4 days we worked together within a few feet of each other. No masks. We spend about 2 hours in the cab of a truck every day. Didn’t get it. I go into homes every day for work and into stores. To date I have never had it. My wife gives us lots of vitamins including d3 and we eat a healthy vegetable rich diet. There’s an article somewhere on google about a small uk study that found that people who have had many common colds in their life had a tendency to not catch covid despite being exposed . They said that’s because some common colds are also types of corona virus and thus likely provide some immunity . That could also be a factor along with vit D’s immune boosting properties . In the winter I take two 1000 IUs of D per day: The day they announced the first lockdown in 2020 i rode a crowded bus but didn’t get sick. Though I tend to catch every cold there is. As soon as I went to my first family gathering this past Christmas I caught a doozie of a cold from my cousin who caught it from his toddler grand kids ( I tested negative twice 2 days apart on rapid test). But vit D , cayenne pepper and frequent neti pot flushes got me over it quicker and reduced the severity of my cold.

I disagree about this last insinuation. The idea that all governments - liberal and conservative, drug makers and non-drug makers - are all colluding to keep people from knowing the super secret is really quite absurd. Boris Johnson wanted to keep everything open. So did Trump. Do you really think they would have kept this secret so that it could benefit drug companies? I don't. And by the way, Dr Fauci also told everyone in America that he takes Vitamin D in a nationally televised interview long ago. There is no conspiracy here.I do think the Israeli study was interesting but I was disappointed that Dr Campbell did not address some of the methodological criticisms that have been made about it.

Be careful of the public transport system, buses and trains may look tidy but they are covered in germs, stay out of cinemas and crowded places in winter. Sydney gets cold in winter - recognise sick people / yourself , on a cold dark night as people travel back home you'll see most people rugged up , amongst them you'll see some striding along, coat open/ wearing little clothing - they hot and sick. The Japanese get more vitamin K2, but they tend to shun the sun, especially women. They eat more fish, but probably not enough (you would need to at least one serving every day and specifically fatty fish, and even more specifically salmon if it was only one serving; almost any other type of fish would require 2 to 3 or many more daily servings) to significantly raise vitamin D levels to adequate or higher, especially in the winter or fall. I'm not aware that there is much mandatory vitamin D fortification/supplementation in many of their foods like in Sweden. The Japanese are much less obese as a nation, so they require less vitamin D since there is less fatty tissue to distribute it to...

Japan is one of the few countries that does not have soaring levels of obesity. (Japan has less than 5% while US and UK has 25-40%). Also Japan has the oldest population in the world and a country like Brazil is on the younger spectrum of the scale. But Japan is still 18 times lower than Brazil in covid deaths per 100 000 population. All countries hit hard by covid has soaring levels of obesity and low levels of Vit D. Japan (and Korea) have very low death rates - showing that age (by itself) is not such a deciding factor. (I would say number of years lived in an unhealthy way adds up risk).

So glad Dr John is back on vitamin D message. This is just another, recent report of its beneficial effects in preventing covid infection and reducing its severity but theres been lots since the start of the pandemic (pre & post vaccination). Governments ought to have adopted this approach at the outset before deciding on a subsequent, vaccination strategy which would likely have been much different to the one adopted. They were told by >200 scientists in a letter - but ignored that advice!

Among the benefits I've noticed, no more sinus infections and far fewer colds with less severity. VitD is a powerful immunomodulator.

The vaccines reduce your risk by 90-95%. Why not take Vitamin D and get vaccinated?

The patient would then go and buy 1000iu which was nowhere near enough to bring their levels up to standard thus keeping them deficient. 20,000,iu and over was needed to get the patient well, especially living up North, and not forgetting some people can have an absorption problem. Thanks for this video (and all the others). You should encourage people to get a blood test to check their Vit D level. I was taking 5,000 iu/day well before the pandemic and assumed it was enough. I had a test last year that came in at 23 ng/ml. After consulting with my doctor I upped my dose to 10,000 iu and the next test was over 50 ng/ml.

I love how when I went to get my full blood work done, ordered by my Dr, they informed me the check for Vitamin D might not be covered by my insurance… the check for the thing that could save my life during a pandemic was the one thing the insurance company wasn’t going to cover 🤦🏻‍♂️ No conspiracy thoughts, just total incompetence.

My allergic rhinitis has improved tremendously since I started taking higher doses of vit d since the pandemic started. I don’t understand it but I am really grateful. And my husband and I (both over 70) have not had Covid “yet”. We are vaccinated but of course not sure how much that has really prevented us from contracting it. I believe it’s our strong levels of d. We take zinc, c and k2 as well.

@@richardrhodes5644 cold sores are an interesting symptom I have rarely and it's quite interesting to me when it shows up. I often don't understand it. But sometims it's clear. As soon as I spend a few hours or a day in a living space with a toxic mold issue, cold sores tend to show up (along with many other symptons). Sometimes it seems to break out when my body is fighting some "bug". I assume it has something to do with immune system modulation allowing the dormant herpes virus to temporarily thrive. These are all just my personal observations and hypotheses.

Brilliant and informative video john. We are fortunate to spend a significant proportion of the winter months in southern Spain where we are mountain walking, playing tennis etc on a daily basis- decently exposing as much flesh as the weather allows! Assuming we wouldn’t need vitamin D supplementation but should we resume taking vit D when back in the uk?

I am on a OA group, and the amount of people that say they have bone pain as amazing, I was found to have inadequate levels inbetween me having my second knee replacement , my doctor tested my VD and this is what was causing my bone pain , I joined a Vitamin D group and did the protocol they have, so I did take the other like magnesium and K2/mk7 with VD, in a year my level went up from 26 to 200 UK, all my bone pain went and I did not have any colds, 👍

A few years ago when I didn't take K2 with Vit D-3 I did get a flag from my Dr saying I had hi calc in the blood, and I was worried that I had a tumor or something. A friend pointed out I needed K2 with my dose of D-3 that was 4 or 5,000 iu.

Thanks John. The advice to be careful about Vitamin D deficiency has been consistent over the last couple of years, so it's good to hear recent confirmatory research. And it is certainly surprising that public advice about this has not been routinely given. I'm puzzled and annoyed, however, to find Vitamin D levels reported in guidelines and papers in two different ways. The Israeli paper, and your talk, use nanograms per millilitre (ng/mL), whereas here in Australia the measure reported is usually nanomoles per Litre (nmol/L). It's irritating that it is necessary to convert between these, but it is fortunately easy: To convert ng/mL to nmol/L, multiply by 2.5. To convert nmol/L to ng/mL, divide by 2.5. E.g., 30 ng/mL is 75 nmol/L. I hope that helps others.
