Estimate excess mortality from the COVID-19 pandemic,
in 191 countries and territories,
including 31 locations in low-income and middle-income countries
12 states in India
Methods
Data collected for pandemic period and past 11 years
All-cause mortality reports
Excess mortality over time was calculated as observed mortality minus expected mortality
Excess mortality = observed mortality -expected mortality
Accounting for late registration,
Six models were used to estimate expected mortality
(statistical model for low data areas)
Findings, as measured by excess mortality
Reported worldwide COVID-19 deaths = 5·94 million,
We estimate 18·2 million
(17·1-19·6 million)
Global all-age rate of excess mortality due to the pandemic, 120·3 deaths per 100 000 of the population
Excess mortality rate exceeded 300 deaths per 100 000 of the population in 21 countries
Cumulative excess deaths due to COVID-19
India, 4·07 million
USA, 1·13 million
Russia, 1·07 million
Mexico, 798, 000
Brazil, 792, 000
Indonesia, 736, 000
Pakistan, 664, 000
Bangladesh, 413, 000
Peru, 349, 000
South Africa, 302, 000
Iran, 274, 000
Egypt, 265, 000
Italy, 259, 000
Australia - 18,100
NZ, - 827
Canada, 43,700
UK, 169,000
Excess mortality highest
Russia, 374·6 deaths per 100 000
Mexico, 433.6 per 100 000
Brazil, 186·9 per 100 000
USA, 179·3 per 100 000
UK, 126.8 per 100 000
Canada, 60.5 per 100 000
Australia, - 32.9 per 100 000
NZ, - 9.3 per 100 000
Ratio of excess mortality rate to reported COVID-19 mortality
A measurement of undercounting the true mortality impact of the pandemic
In high-income North America, the ratios were comparatively low
Morocco, 10
Egypt, 12·19
Sudan, 25·12
Afghanistan, 26·06
Yemen, 33·04
Canada, 1.44
US, 1.37
UK, 0.97
Interpretation
The full impact of the pandemic has been much greater than what is indicated by reported deaths due to COVID-19 alone.
Further research is warranted
To distinguish excess mortality that was directly caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection,
and the changes in causes of death as an indirect consequence of the pandemic.

On NO oxygen. They said he had multifocal pneumonia, but no residual after a month. I'm a registered nurse of 43 years and I don't believe doctors, nurses or hospitals anymore. In the Summer of 2020, I needed to go into the Dr's for a health issue that came up. Trying to make an appointment, I realized they (the Dr and his staff) were afraid of me coming to their office - as a member of the public, they didn't want me to come. Taking my mom to the cardiologist in Fall 2020, the Dr. told me that they were postponing as many cardiology tests 'until the Spring' (of 2021) as much as possible to keep the staff at the heart center lean to prevent spread. The same Dr. said they were seeing more cardiology deaths than expected at that time. He was a smart man, and I wonder if he was realizing they were letting people die, because he went ahead and ordered my mother's test for the fall. Also, my breast cancer screening scheduled for April 2020 was canceled. The told me they 'couldn't guarantee my safety in the waiting room'. Yeah, people died from lack of medical care during the pandemic.

Even though it hurts to be personally affected by measures to prevent this, I can safely say that is it taken into consideration when postponing procedures.

As for the small majority who are ignorant to the fact that the vaccination is causing millions of people health issues, all I have to say to you is good luck because you're guna need it. What's also interesting to note is how the vaccination seems to have changed the behaviour of the people I know who have had it. They don't seem themselves. Also, a lot of whom I know have had the vaccination seem to constantly feel run down and feel as if something isn't quite right, and I'm now aware of a lot of people's relatives who were also healthy that have either dropped down dead after the vaccination due to having a heart attack or stroke or are now constantly ill.

Dr Campbell, I live in Australia, own a dental clinic in a part of regional Qld, where C-19 has not shown its face thus far. But my parents are in Portugal. My story is pretty similar to most other stories being reported here. Both my parents have been spared by Covid, but their ongoing treatments for other ailments, including breast cancer in my mother have been constantly deferred because of lockdowns and doctors/system refusing/deferring 1-1 appointments. LIstening to you, other health professionals around the world following similar lines of study and thought, I am inclined to believe that the entire world health system has been hijacked by the C-19 lobby and I would say that it's very convenient for vested interests to fob everything off to C-19, rather than progression of other untreated health issues. We know for example of hospitals across the USA receiving enormous sums/subsidies-whatever you want to call it, for every reported C-19 death. Hardly conducive to honesty. The stats of estimated deaths per country should also be reported as percentages of each population group. You'll be surprised as to how low the numbers actually are in terms of seriousness, then on top of that, if many of these deaths are actually not FROM C-19 but rather from other causes due to lack of inherent treatment because of lockdowns, then we actually have a huge stuff-up from world health authorities and heads should roll from WHO down. But methinks that's wishful thinking. Thank you for a great job so far in unwavering resolve to expose the truth.

For sure there have been many death cases due to the deficiency of the health system during the pandemic. But you can't expect that this leads to an overestimate of C19-death figures. To be counted as a C19-death you must have a positive test, and the probability that a random person tested at a random time is positive is very low. Thus only about 1% of those died from deficiencies of the health system could be rated as C19-deaths. I come from Austria and during the second wave for some weeks almost 40% more people died than normally expected and this was in good match with the reported C19-death figures. Such temporary significant excess mortalities are indeed caused by C19 and not by the deplorable malfunctions of the health system.

With 200 of them pathologists decided that the virus was indeed the cause of death. Sorry, speculations that the numbers of Covid deaths are massively overrated are void. It is well assured that at least 80% of the reported Covid-deaths were really caused by the virus. For the rest there could be other causes. It has also had the most severe measures and restrictions as well as vaccine mandates. For a quick comparison, the data gives Italy at 227.4 per 100,000 and Sweden (with likely the least stringent measures) at 91.2. That's quite a difference.

The high mortality in Italy can not be related with severe measures and vaccination. Mortality was high already before vaccination took place and as far as measures are concerned, it it the other way round: measures were severe since mortality was high. It is also wrong to think Sweden has a low mortality because of weak measures. Sweden has a low mortality because the virus was less effective in the northern countries Norway, Sweden and Finland. However, when Sweden is compared with Norway and Finland, mortality in Sweden was strikingly higher. Obviously due to it's weak measures.

I have been in Italy the whole COVID period, and have following the issues closely, so I am quite certain that high excess mortality in Italy is related to severe restricions and vaccinations, as well as inappropriate and/or unavailable treatment to those with symptoms. Are you in Sweden?

  • @heinzpg

    2 жыл бұрын

@@MsRadigan If you look at the Euromomo-graph, Italy had a substantial excess mortality during the first and second wave in 2020. There was a much smaller excess mortality in spring 2021. It is true, that excess mortality was slightly higher in January 2022 as in January 2021. But if you look at the reported death cases of Covid, there were about 14.600 in January 2021 but only 8.900 in January 2022 (Source WHO-Dashboard). Thus, the higher excess mortality in January 2022 could also result from other causes as e.g. influenca. With Omikron many things changed in 2022. But if you want to see the impact of vaccination you can look at the ratio of confirmed cases and death counts in Italy. This ratio has improved substantially from spring 2021 to summer and autumn 2021 and this change can not be explained by more tests being done. Of course restrictions were also responsible for some rise in mortality, but rather negligible in comparision with the number of Covid death cases. As for vaccination, several eastern European countries lag behind in vaccination and also have a substantial higher Covid death rate per capita. It is also not plausible that the antibodies created by the vaccination increase the death risk of Covid and statistics show that in Covid-ICUs unvaccinated people can be found at a much higher percentage than in the population. No, I am not in Sweden, but I have Swedish friends and I have followed the development in Sweden closely.

I have had four grandparents who all died from cancer that was ‘nothing serious’ (according to doctors) until it was and was suddenly terminal, all under NHS care. One of them was in tears, complaining to the doctor in the ED (because her husband was in hospital and the ED was only downstairs from his oncology ward,) about the ‘bad back,’ which she was told repeatedly by her own GP was muscular and refused an x-ray, because she’d had one not too long ago. She argued with the doctor, pleading with him to help her. He called in security who then marched my 75 y/o Gran out of the ED, all because she wanted help and was trying to advocate for herself…it was a ‘muscular problem’ and an x-ray would not show anything…nearly a full year later, she was still having the problem, was nursing her husband through terminal cancer, had been told it was stress and lack of rest causing the problem, so of course, her own fault…until they did her yearly bone density x-ray. What do they find? Her hip was dis-integrating, had been for ‘quite some time’ and she needed a hip replacement operation, urgently! She would be dead less than a year later, due to esophageal cancer, which we were told was just ‘her muscles aging, normally,’ until we had to admit her to hospital, when she couldn’t swallow her food anymore. Managed to get another (private) doctor to look at her and he instantly knew something was wrong, with one examination. Terminal esophageal cancer; nothing to be done except respite care. She was my last grandparent, of course who had been horrendously failed by the doctors they had seen and trusted, repeatedly. All this happened before the pandemic. I shudder to think how bad the situation is now and will continue to be, because the extra work forced upon it by the pandemic. I still miss them, but in a way, I am glad that they weren’t around to experience this pandemic! They really would have struggled, esp with lockdown.

Will they have to continue the cycle of lockdowns and boosters in perpetuity? And there are other countries with no lockdowns and no excess deaths. Considering the amount of deaths "with covid" in care homes both in the UK and Ireland it would be an interesting topic to discuss the use of midazolam in those settings during that period. Questions need to be asked such as...... Why was so much midazolam ordered and stored leading up to the pandemic?, Why were such high doses proscribed to patients with symptoms of the virus when the drug itself causes breathing difficulties amoung other issues that would be detrimental to a patient with the virus?, Why were care home patients to be treated only in homes with this protocol and not given an option of going to a hospital setting as many care homes did not have adequate supply of oxegyn for patients needing it.?, Why was a palliative care approach taken to these patients over an affective treatment? While looking into that it might make you question why were DNR's placed on patients and residents charts without the knowledge or consent of family members and would that have anything to do with why family members were not allowed to visit their loved ones?. Hard questions but ones that need to be answered. A lot of families have suffered losses from what I mentioned above and they deserve answers. They deserve acknowledgment that the above took place because there is mounting evidence that it did.

Somebody made up that protocol, and knew exactly what they were doing, it was then sent to all the residential facilities to follow to the letter. Somebody ordered and held 2yrs plus of that medication leading up to this pandemic, this was not a mistake by any stretch of the imagination.

It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. In 2019 I was in the hospital for 1 month and just before I was released a older married couple was admitted and was placed in the room next to me. The staff had to suit up in hazmat suits before entering their room. I asked why they suited up like that and all they told me was that the couple just got off the plane from China and they both we very ill. Well I was about to be released from the hospital and I was ansi to go home, so I was walking all around the hospital to release my excess energy and of course I was walking past the couple's room alot. I finally got home and in 2 days I was sicker than a dog. I was taking vitamins before I went to the hospital and I started taking them again. I was ill for a few days then Poof I was up and moving around again. Fast forwarding now, in 2020 when I heard about the virus and the symptoms I had told my friend that it was the same thing that I had after coming home from the hospital!. So I put 2 and 2 together and I figured out that I had contracted the virus from the hospital. So I had Covid before it was being reported by the CDC and the news!. I'm of course alive and doing well. When I got the 1st vaccine shot I was soo sick I almost went to the hospital. I felt worse than just having COVID-19. I was pressured into getting the vaccine. I took the 2nd vaccine shot and I noticed that it was really messing with my blood sugar levels very bad (I have diabetes type 2). I told my doctor about it and she kept saying that it wasn't from the vaccine. I beg to differ but it was the vaccine that did it. Again I was being pressured into taking the shot again and I down right refused. There's something in the vaccines that isn't very good for people. My friend took it because she wanted to go see her son and his family. The vaccine reaction she had was she suddenly couldn't hardly move her arms and her breathing was sporadic. She saw her doctor and the doctor said she was not to have anymore vaccine due to the fact that the vaccine almost killed her!. Just as it reacted with me!. Vitamins saved me. D3,C,multivitamin, ginseng, cinnamon, magnesium, zinc, turmeric, cranberry concentrate and a couple others. I'm a survivor of the virus!. I'll never go to a hospital again!. I apologize for the lengthy comment!.

Isolation is known as one of the biggest killers for decades. less sunlight, less blood circulation, less oxygen saturation. (maybe less exchange of antibodies/ natural immunity) compare lockdown-heavy austria and belgium with sweden and norway record deaths in belgium and austria (free healthcare in austria, so many people got the vitamin D unlike poor people in the US..but heavy restrictions..empty streets..extremely scared people in austria for over a year.mandatory ffp2 masks..) id like Dr Campell to analyse the physical effects of lockdowns bc MSM just brings the strawman of the "psychological" effects which seems harmless compared to the phyiscal effects and people therefore just ignore it there are tons of empirics and data on social isolation

I'm of the belief that the indirect causes of locking people up in their homes for 2 years was the major contributing cause of excess mortality in the forms of: Untreated and undiagnosed illness/diseases, immune system collapse as people were trapped indoors for that same period (lack of Vitamin D), and increases in mental illness and depression due to extended isolation. Sure covid was a factor, but I suspect if the response to a flu pandemic was executed in the same manner we'd see similar levels of excess mortality.
