Carol, you have a better eye for decorating than anything here. These decorations look as if they chose the most simple decorating styles possible. Your style is far more creative and elegant. I must admit, however, that the gardens are beautiful.

I was thinking the same thing. Your salon is such more beautiful than these rooms. Honestly the design is rather pedestrian.

The gardens at Villandry are stunning. I like the painted walls , panelling it allows your furniture, art to shine and take centre stage . But I also love the fabric on the walls , absolutely beautiful 😍 Your both going to be very busy bees . Have a lovely week xx 💚

Thank you for taking us on your tour of the chateau and those grounds and garden's wow absolutely amazing, hope it helps you to create your salon Carole thank you for sharing x 💕🌼🌼🤗
What an amazing Chateau. Thank you for sharing Adrian and Carol. 😮😊
Thank you so much for this glorious tour! It’s jaw dropping beautiful!😍🤩
Stunning chateau thanks for sharing
The Villandry exterior architecture and gardens are some of my favorite in France. I feel that the interiors have been much simplified from their original opulence. You had a lovely day for your outing. Totally agree with Carole on a fountain and pool for La Ferte😉!
Carole, your eye for color and attention to detail in all your rooms is much more chic and refined. Continue to trust your instincts on color, pattern, style, and period details! Adrian, your construction work and finish details are superb! It appears none of the paintings are covered with museum-quality, UV protected, matte finish glass to protect the paintings from fading. That’s unfortunate, as it would solve the fading problem. Though the gardens are beautiful in their intricacy, they were created for high society “to see and be seen.” I have every confidence you will create a garden in your own style that’s absolutely lovely! By the way, Carole, you look lovely in white (or black)!

Old oil paintings should be without glass because moisture can get trapped between the glass and the painting causing damage. Best to have these types of paintings cleaned by a conservator and revarnished in UV protected varnish. The old varnishes on old paintings back in the day were terrible for yellowing and made the colors on paintings look muddy and completely washed out.

Thank you for sharing! 💞😊 It does surpass Versailles!, especially the gardens. What titles/ income base did this original family have. Spectacular job on narration and video. I watched twice!! And just soaked all the beauty and artistry in. I hope the docent doses come and share her knowledge with you. At your chateau.
Wow! What an amazing tour of the Chateau and gardens. Your right that room with all those horrible paintings was a bit Freaky. The wood flooring and gardens I loved the most ❤️

Thank you for the tour! I really enjoyed the chateau and gardens. Very impressive. I love your chateau. It is beautiful and elegant. A perfect place. As for the decorating, no two people will ever decorate the same room the exact same way. Carole, you have lovely taste and your chateau should reflect your choices. I am sure the salon will be beautiful when finished and look exactly like you want. 💕

My favourite chateau and gardens, they always look stunning. I love all the fabrics they use. They will probably get dusty in the end though so wallpaper more robust. Perhaps you could do a combination of matching fabric around the beds.
I like your chateau better! The rooms you have completed are not as commercial (as this one is in some places). Yours looks more original and more intricately decorated!

Château de Villandry's theme is about rural nature and of course gardens. So is the decoration of the rooms, you won't find gold or rich Versailles style in here.
Жыл бұрын
No we did not, but Versailles was a bit too far and the wallpaper factory was close by. Having done Versailles few years back, seeing it now, would probably make our chateau look like a peasants hut!!!

@ Sorry, I wasn't saying you're not aware of Villandry's style, and didn't want to compare with Versailles Royal designs. Anyway, if it can help your choice, you may find something interesting by creating a rubber wallpaper with the design of the interior of the Belvédère of Petit Trianon.
You can see that you made a better job of restoration than they did! Good job you two, you should be very proud❤️🎶🤗🎶🇨🇦

Perfect place for sunbathing. Actually I remember sunbathing up on our roof in Spain many years ago!!!!!
Clock is beautiful and the wallpaper is stunning
Thanks for the tour! It looks like it was very inspiring. You can duplicate the look of damask fabrics for the walls with stencils and pearlized paint to give the shimmer of the pattern on top of an eggshell finish on the background. It works beautifully. Nobody will know it’s not fabric until they get up real close, or if the texture of the plaster wall is rough. It’s a lot of work, but worth the look. Ralph Loren paints offers the shimmering pearl finish which is more like an Opal shimmer. Just food for thought Carole because we know you both are capable of accomplishing something which truly represents the level of splendor and elegance your chateau requires and deserves!! ❤

I think we were more impressed with the gardens than the chateau. Was great to meet a stonemason for proper advice
With the issue of silk fading, are there options to put a UV film on the windows that aren't tinted? Or to get silk/fabric that has been treated to prevent fading in sun/moon light? That chateau looks extraordinarily beautiful and I see a lot of similarities. It's interesting to see the fabric wallpaper and drapes matching in more than one room... a bit odd but perhaps that was the fashionable thing to do back then. I would think to make the grounds fancy yet easy to maintain those sections of lawn with the shubs on the corners and crushed gravel as a driveway/walkway could be feasible perhaps? Thank you for sharing the tour with us viewers!
That tour must have made you both feel very good about your efforts to detail and scope of work. The gardens were spectacular but meant to be for tourists and tours. Yours is your home, it has elegance and is being lovingly returned to its grandeur. you should be proud of your accomplishments!🥰

Just seen the Stag Toile wallpaper from Moss in the current edition of Homes and Antiques. Just a thought but it is lovely and looks to be the colourway you are looking for xx

I will get Carole to have a look. Thank you
I like the bedroom with the blue alcove, fabric nice too
Great to get inspo from other chateaus. Maybe consider not papering right now and paint instead. See how the room comes together once furniture is in. A fabulous curtain fabric could make the room. Loved the tour. Those gardens!
What about a couloured Chinoiserie paper in the panels? I think it would really lift the room visually. It would echo the garden outside. I like the path you have gone down trying to reproduce the old paper too. Colorful might be a nice way to go.
Having the panels as paint-only might be a temporary thing until they find the perfect fabric or wallpaper for the walls, or until they have the funds for it? Also, painted panels can be more easily cleaned as there are lots of sticky fingers touring through the rooms.

And lots of dust from working
I’ve been enjoying your blogs, and I’m impressed by the work you’ve done on your chateau. A couple of thoughts- if you decide to put fabric on your walls, you should know that there should always be padding under the fabric. Also, I have found wonderful Empire and Louis XVI furniture and accessories on Ebay-France at excellent prices. Continue with your great efforts, and much success!

Thank you Jerry. I haven’t put fabric on walls but thankfully I know process. Hopefully a later video will answer your questions
Thank you for the look around the chateau. I feel what you are both doing at your chateau is more than equal to to the rooms presented here. Carol your gold leafing and painting along with wallpaper hanging is of same quality. Personally I like your home much better. Love from Australia.

Wow the Chandelier looks stunning 😍 you wouldn't know that some crystal is missing. Hopefully you can find some more or the previous owner will give you the rest. I can't wait to see the room finished. Your both doing an incredible job. 👏
Although this chateau is beautiful . It’s beauty is in the outside gardens and grounds. Carol and Adrian, I truly admire your work on the interior of your chateau. All your hard work and artistry is keeping to the original feel of the chateau. Fantastic work . I always look forward to seeing what you’ve accomplished each week. You two amaze me. Have you considered using multi-layered stencils and varying shades of gray paint to create the wallpaper effect. I am thinking you may be able to have someone create the various levels of stencils using inspiration from the original wall paper. Just a thought since you’re having such a hard time finding the right wallpaper. Don’t give up on your vision.

As we’re in no hurry we will wait until the right option comes along. 🤞
Lived briefly in a mansion here in the states that had dark green silk damask on the walls it was almost 90 years old and still looked great the hallways had a lighter color more peach or gold and was not silk still looked ok but was more discolored from age and general deterioration of the fabric. One room was Tapistry and one was hand blocked wallpaper all original to the house the wallpaper looked the worst of the four. My vote would be to use Fabric the curtains hanging in the pelmets will fade much quicker than the wall panels. Think about the galleries in Buckingham palace those have upholstered walls as do a number of other rooms. Fabric will just elevate the walls to keep up with the gold leaf just my opinion. Thanks for taking us along on your tour I love being able to travel along to places I can't go anymore. Loved the gardens The grass with the gravel pathways and corner shrubs would not be that high maintenance.
Growing up in a victorian house, we had those brass portholes on the fireplace. They served 2 purposes. To provide a draft that would prevent the room from smoking when you lit the fireplace and it somewhat allowed heat to escape into the room once the cinders were low enough. Mostly we opened it when we lit the fireplace.

I visited the Chateau 3 years ago and agree that is is most beautiful. The ground are magnificent. I was impressed by the large ballroom with the black and white marble floor. One explanation I got for the fabric is that it covers all the irregularities and cracks in the walls plus it is easier to change after it fades and gets dirty from all the visitors.

It also allowed them to run electric once it was available without showing exposed wires.
I'm surprised that they didn't have sign's up to not touch the walls as the oils from your hands soil those beautiful fabrics.
Oh my the Gardens. Adrian they have gardeners. I'm sure. But they R WOW
Lmao careful Adrian she still has time to do the clouds at your place. 😂
They are fire dampers I think.
Wow that garden must be such a lot of work! But it is stunning. A fountain would look good in your square feature thing in the garden. 😉 I still think it would also make a great fire pit, with a brazier in it, but maybe they're more popular here in Australia, than in France. 🤷

Trouble is with the lavoir, it's in completely the wrong place, off centre outside the front door, in the shade most of the day and next to the outside toilet, I never understood thus placement
The drone… hysterically funny. The chateau is gorgeous like the gardens. Gosh your Mum has got her work cut out when she returns (tee hee). I am left wondering if the fabric has inspired you or whether it confirmed that wall paper is the way to go? Until the next episode… (if only I could add the EastEnders beat, dum dum etc 😂).
