I live in the States. And I'm in Texas hill country. We have walls with rocks like yours, and we used to have rocks that fell down. What they did is put wire netting from top to bottom, and at the bottom, they planted vines. They would follow the wire, and it was all covered in a year. Looks beautiful. You should look into that. It's pretty cheap, too.

You need much bigger pots at the front door for the scale of the building. Put those small ones in the side garden and go get big decorative concrete planters for the front door.

Topiary trees in larger pots outside front door would 'lift' the eye in terms of design, and smaller pots with jasmine could stand on a small table beside topiaries (just a thought)...Will you be painting exterior of chateau? If so, door colour may change to an accent colour you like. This is going to be a beautiful property as you grow with it. Can see why you loved it at first sight.

Starting small... I'm sure there will be lots of small transformations!
It’s good to have you back in France 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 That view from your garden looks like Italy, I could eat all my meals at your garden table. Just Stunning 😍
I actually love the little green pots you bought. However, I think they are too small, proportionately, for the size of your door. Perhaps taller, yet narrow pots would work for your jasmine...with some smaller plants at the base of the jasmine, along with some vines trailing down the sides.
Sounds like a trumpeter swan we used to love to go see them when we lived near a place they would over winter, but also like a kid blowing a kazoo!😂

@@chateauchronicles they are beautiful, we loved to go see them in the winter. Just really noisy.
Here in South Carolina, we prune our roses around Valentine’s Day. They will look pretty sad until it gets warmer and doesn’t get below freezing then flush out. Usually in April.

Prune roses around St. Patrick’s Day , that’s usually the rule around here , in NY , Not sure what zone your in in France , but it’s a safe bet that by summer, they’ll,flourish also use some rose fertilizer around the base of the plant ❤ There’s something so soothing and magical about watching your Chateau come to life !

Lol that really does sounds like a goose ! I love coming along with you on this journey. I didn’t realize the 90 day thing - that’s tough- at least for now. See you soon!
Meyer lemons are the best lemons 🍋🍋🍋
Hello Abby for your wall u may have to just repoint the hole wall , and then a net or metal mesh put onto it or go buy a very invasive climber it will work . Hydrangeas would work in yr garden but get the big ones 1.5 meter they give amazing colour and are very easy to grow just a thought .. Lemon and Orange trees give fruit in the winter and would grow great at yr place because of the shelter u have , roses need pruning in the winter , could still do that now just to help clean them up and then once the leaves are there they need fertilizing but what ever u do make sure u dig it in so Chloe doesnt eat it . Just trying to help love your Chateau its gorgeously French.
Thank you!!!!
Your two new pots will soon be too small. You might like to replace them with beautiful terra cotta pots. Please don't forget to water these new plants. You will be so happy when the plants are in flower. Well done..
Your channel is so much fun!! Living vicariously ❤️ A French “Home Depot” 🙃… fun 🍊 🍋 who knew! Ty!!
I love jasmine - great idea for a climber at front doors 🌿🤩🙌🏼
Garden centers are my happy place. I almost screamed when I saw that orange and lemon tree. I wish we could grow them here. I am building a large greenhouse this year so maybe I should think about getting one 😊 I think the first rose is still alive the stems are still green. I would do a hard prune and see if new shoots come out.

I had never seen one with so many fruits! So crazy! Thanks for the rose advice!
Oh I would have fun in that garden centre
Would love to see some time lapse of the garden being cleaned up and the garden beds being brought back and new plants planted ❤️👍🏼😉🇨🇦
If you watch make do grow, they are using lime to point stone walls, also Chris harbor built a earth house and used lime. I’d recommend a few truck loads of topsoil. You won’t be able to even grow grass. We grow a special orange, lemons and grapefruit in Columbia SC, it’s very important to buy the right rootstock for your zone. Trifoliate is good for oranges, don’t be tempted to buy from that garden center. They are the wrong kind. The lemons we grow are huge called Changsha. The grapefruit are called bloom sweet. If you are growing windmill palms you may be in a similar zone to ours. We are very close to Lake Murray so we have a microclimate. It may a little bit warmer near big water.
Roses need cut back much more than what I see - they will grow back on new growth faster than old canes ( stalks). your garden guy should know this. as for your pots, out front, perhaps when the plants grow a bit more you can put them in terra cotta, plastic won't grow on the outside, so don't over water

The pots are ceramic. I put lots of rocks at the bottom to avoid the over water problem. I'm more worried about under watering!
Forget the beds, get the yard washed, clean the gutters, paint the gates, garden can be done slowly, I know there is so much to do but the building is priority😢😅😊
Thank you for sharing your progress on this. Chateau. I really enjoy you showing your progress.

That bird sounds like a Peacock! They are beautiful but noisy! For your wall that is crumbling, I'd suggest speaking to a structural engineer or someone in that category since the walls are very old. Whatever you decide, can't wait to watch and thank you for sharing!
Thank you. I so enjoy watching you…you are an inspiration. I’m trying to refurbish an old cottage in Ireland. You give me more hope. In episode 19, I could feel your happiness upon your arrival. Your love and joy will just make the chateau smile more and more!
I’m definitely with you when it comes to raking leaves. Quiet and contemplative. Many people forget that noise pollution is as bad as air pollution. Who wants to listen to their neighbors’ blowers when there are song birds and the peace and quiet of the neighborhood is disturbed? Also, your clothing doesn’t smell like gasoline. Lower electric bills, too.
If you don't like the color of the pots you can always slip them into another pot to cover it without having to repot it. Then when they grow bigger repot them in a larger pot.😉
Oh goody! 2 in one day. Enjoying this so. Glad to see back in France! What a cool place to get plants!
Remove all leaves with black spot and also rake around the roses to remove any old leaves that might be harboring the spores. Put in trash, not compost.
Would it be worth hiring a landscape company to draw up plans for certain areas outside to be sure what you plant will grow? Maybe there are heritage types that would be great to plant.
The horizontal piece on the door is a good indicator of height for your pots. They would look great just under the height of the green horizontal trim piece on the door.
Prune the roses and fertilize them and they will look better in the summer months. The crumbling facade you mentioned just looks like old render maybe. I'd pick little areas of the garden to start with over time it will get better it's a pretty garden ❤
Your floors are so beautiful! If you want to keep them that way, though, when you move furniture, just put an old towel underneath each leg and slide the whole thing. No scratches, and if your towel is thick enough, not even any long dents!
This lady has energy over the top..What a trouper. Looking good too.
Love seeing some pots with flowers around. Brings the place to life.
Love seeing you back in your Happy Place! Cheers!
Adore your Chateau !! ❤ That sound you heard could be geese, swans, old donkey or mule 😊

Bonjour! I am from and live in Florida’s west coast and we have oranges. So I also love ❤ the smell of orange blossoms.
In England I think a white summer flowering Jas. Will look a bit crappy during the winter months. There is a yellow winter flowering one as well!
Love the view from your terrace 😍😘

The ending is fabulous !!!
So glad that you're back in France. I absolutely love your chateau and enjoy your videos. Can't wait for the next episode!!!
It’s so lovely to see you back in France in at your château.
Great, seeing your video!! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous chateau
I love the fact your posting more!!! This is such a fabulous journey your on, thank you for bringing us along with you!!! 💕 - Michael B
That view you have off your garden side is breaking glad you are back in France looking forward to your progress 😀
While expensive it would be worth getting an engineer to look at the rock and what to do to stop it from crumbling. Where I live Some kind of brownish/greyish concrete (?) was sprayed on rock cliffs that are next to our train tracks. Love your choice in music. The old garden beds would look lovely to bring back.
I usually cut back my roses in autumn , early winter when they are dormant and spray them for black spot and rust and spray them again in spring. They are big feeders, so a good fertiliser and compost will help them grow healthy in spring. I also think that the climbers need to be in larger pots, they will outgrow the small ones in no time. Good luck with the garden.
Your patio dining set is lovely. Living your best Lloyd’s. You’re truly blessed.
Get the flower/tree large pots THAT MATCH - either cement colored...or Terra Cotter - or Blue if your shutters will be blue...
A suggestion for a new rose would be the Queen Elizabeth as it is a fast grower and covers a large area as size isn’t an issue in your beautiful chateau garden. 🇬🇧 😊 David Austin Roses.

Ooh! I used to love that! I loved dripping it in the snow! Have fun! And thank you!
I'm not a fan of yellow flowers, either. Or red or orange. But I live in the South. Hot colors make a hot garden look and feel even hotter. I'm into the blues, lavenders, pinks and whites. Even with 90° temps and 90% humidity at least my garden looks cool, lol.
Black spot is common with roses. There is a spray for it you can get at a garden center to treat it.
Short snippet blogs are really nice...many like me can spare 10 minutes, but maybe not 20. Enjoyed going to the garden center with you! So many possibiliites!
Those beautiful red pots and yellow will definitely brighten up the outside walls of the Chateau...
Your landscaper is going to be your best friend!! Start small, I would work on the front of the house. Have fun!
So pleased you are back in France. I enjoyed joining you in the garden center. You got distracted by all the things that would distract me too. I am hoping your citrus tree research leads you straight back to buy one!
I am so excited to see you back in France. I am here in Wenatchee Wa and just find your adventure so interesting!
Spread banana peal around tour rose stem. Carefully remove soil around place peal and cover peal with soil. Water rose. Peal will dry out but give nutriënt. Replace eacg 3to4wks. Makes roses strong and peolongs bloomperiod. Mine have flowers till November
When raking or weeding, I spread out a tarp or old sheet, heap everything on it, then drag it off to the compost. Much more efficient than a wheel barrow. Your garden has great bones.
So funny I just spent 3 months repairing my sons field stone foundation before I could seal and paint. 700 lbs of mortar, later I repaired the walls, can now lift 80 lb bag cement and fell in love with the stones. I don’t use power tools either. ❤
Measure your door. The pots should be 1/3 of the door height to be in scale. You are so lucky to be doing this!

I had various jasmine plants/bushes when living in Florida -- they grow fast, and the scent is heavenly. Also Meyer lemon and orange trees. I miss the plants from the sub tropical area. Your video is a lot of fun -- love seeing Chloe too -- such a good dog and great companion!
Oh my gosh i wish that I was there with you answering all your plant questions!
The citrus trees would do well in the salon you just previewed. I’m so happy you’ve back.
Thanks for the garden center tour, Abigail. Huge! You have a lovely yard with great potential. I can't wait to see it transformed. You have a wonderful four-legged supervisor who didn't seem at all phased by the goose-like honking noise. So sweet. Oh and I agree with you about raking. Leaf blowers can be obnoxiously loud.
So fun choosing jasmine for front door. It’s important to have small rewards while working on other projects. Really enjoying watching chateau come back to life. The lemon trees were a fun idea. I use Meyer lemon in salads and other dishes. A fav ingredient, I think they have to move inside in winter. I may have to get a jasmine plant 🪴 or two. You are so inspiring! Have a great week! 🍋 🍋 🍋
I so love coming along with your adventures transforming the Chateau ... i rekon the door could do with larger pots for such a grande entrance
Love the longer vlogs! Longer the better. 😜
Banana skins around the roses 🌹 are very good to bring them back👍
Boy that’s a huge garden 🪴 center Wow 😮
Love the Vlog😍 at one time I had beautiful rosebushes, however, I can’t remember what you do about the black spot, but I do remember a trick tip that was taught to me and delivered gorgeous blooms and that was to plant in the soil, ( a few to several inches deep)a whole egg and a banana peel a foot apart from each other, and a foot away from the rose bush. Within 1-2 years, delivered a lush rose bush
Looking forward to more vlogs🥳
❤❤
It sounds like someone is learning to play the French horn. That garden center is a dream. It has everything. You could grow those citrus inside in a super bright room. They probably won't survive or do well outside if it freezes there. You could put them out all year until winter and then bring them into a sunny room. That's what I do with my lemon and lime. Jasmine is a great choice. I have a very prolific star jasmine that grows like crazy and puts off the most amazing smelling flowers. It dies back in the winter and comes back every spring. I can't wait to see the grounds in all their glory.
Oh! Love your new logo!
Definitely get the yellow winter jasmine. They really do bloom in winter and the flowers pop out on the green stems. Look stunning draped over a rock. Rare reliable bloomer in the dreary part of the year.
I think your doing amazingly, making decisions & learning the french language ! Not only that ,your restoring your chateau at the same time! Love the Brocante shopping & the pieces your purchased! I don’t like haggling, but I think in France, it’s expected! I’d definitely be asking,if that’s their best price! Good luck 🥰

I am disabled, unable to walk anymore (MS) so I keep wondering if I’d be able to visit a place like yours. I use walkers but mostly a wheelchair. Anyway I am enjoying watching your videos and sometimes I answer you back LOL. YOU ARE DOING A FABULOUS JOB! My days of renovating are over but I get so excited watching all you are doing.
Well you just changed my plans for Tuesday going to garden centre early for ontario canada but found a primrose flowering already we had a day warm as 15 out and clear blue sky's but next day minus 3 discuss the crazy season ! Mid March is when plants start coming very early but will take it !I wold prune back all roses seeing that they are quite old have your garden do a good clean up and plan some garden beds that will be easy to manage your garden probably can figure out the lay of the land knowing what the climate is and what you can and cannot grow !Jealous that raking already cannot start too early ground still frozen maybe we can start clean up end of March we are supposed to have a major storm Wednesday and Thursday freezing rain and snow like last week been years since we have had freezing rain now two weeks in a row !Enjoyed garden centre tour my favorite thing maybe find a new planter for my front porch now going wed morning before the storm ! Enjoy your videos very much !
Love the first bit where you look like a Sims character, always wished for that speed of productivity irl. You chose the jasmine I was rooting for. Given so many homes have conservatories or orangerie wasn't surprised by the citrus, just jealous. When I get the big house livable, when, when, when??? I will get grow lights so I can have fig, lemon indoors and perhaps a jasmine like I had in tx where a few blossoms in cup of cheap tea became so wonderful. OK, now have gone down rabbit hole looking for Orleans, sigh. Tomorrow yet another contractor comes to give me unreasonable bid with open ended amount and insult my intelligence about the building process, my goal is not to commit a murder as ground is still frozen enough can't dig. only sl kidding. Hope French contractors are easier to deal with. Glad to see you there.
The lemon trees are magnificent! Beautiful! I’ve grown large lemon trees from a single seed of a lemon ! Orange blossoms do smell divine as does jasmine! My favorite planters are Terracotta with beautiful green moldy moss natural is gorgeous but in a pinch you can buy moss toss in buttermilk and “ paint “ it on let the pots set in the shade and voila! I would prune your roses provide them with fertilizer and you may be surprised at how hearty they are! Perhaps when your gardens are re done a beautiful trellis with a climbing plant or antique roses would be nice.. so many things you can do so exciting! Thank you for sharing!
❤ working hard ❤
Oh I’m so happy you are back in France! Thanks for sharing all of this with us. It’s so fun to watch. Lucky you have Thomas to help. Very excited that you may release daily videos. While I’m sitting here in the cold winter in Iowa watching you start spring gardening, cleaning & such is inspiring. Not sure about the rock brick wall. I’m thinking your ideas are good. A net, & vines. And repointing, yes. Like maybe dust or sweep it off somehow, leaf blower? Power wash it? Then repointing & perhaps some kind of sealant sprayed on? Like a paint sprayer? My mind goes to like a polyurethane sealer like you would use for decks. But maybe there’s some thing the guys know there that works better? Some thing that’s more for nature and stone like maybe one of their natural paint products like a line wash something like that? I don’t know, I probably sound stupid. But I think just doing multiple things & layers of reinforcements will help. Bummer about the internet, hopefully someone knows how to get that better. I think you should try to get the citrus tress ! 🍊🍋 That’s wonderful!
I'm trying to not be so ambitious about plants as I was last year. It was like an obsession. That jasmine looks like it's going to be magnificent. I think that was a goose you were hearing. Take it slow and have fun with your garden.
That sound. I expected one of those dragons from Game of Thrones to come flying over the hill 😂

Right? So odd! 🙂
If you're looking for a low maintenance vine, do more research on honeysuckle. I had it in upstate NY and it was a constant battle to keep it from taking over EVERYTHING.
So good to see you back in France. Your property is big enough to plant different varieties of jasmine that blooms different times of the year. I think those pots are way too small for the scale of the front door. I would keep your eyes open for very large concrete or terracotta pots for that location. The jasmine will require bigger pots as they grow. Anyway Abby, I love your adventure and bravery to take on such a change in your life. I’m cheering you on from afar!!! xx
On the shudders, at the end of the video, the top left blue color would look nice it compliments the yellow
Winter jasmine tends to be yellow and the white scented ones obviously late spring/summer. We have both in our garden and the yellow jasmine are a bit leggier and the white ones much bushier. When you trim the white ones, wear gloves as the stems weep white gluey stuff. The white jasmine smells divine though. We have a lemon and orange tree in our U.K. garden and as long as they move to a protected place in the winter so they don’t go below 10 degrees centigrade they’ll be fine. The bush by the bin does look like sage. Rub the leaves and you can smell a strong lovely smell. If not, it’s not sage but it looks like it.

Thanks for all the info! I wonder if the caves would be suitable for overwintering citrus. I did recently learn that the cave by the parking lot was once the orangerie! Crazy!
Hi Abby, Can't wait to start gardening myself.
I love your garden palette-you’ll have so much fun watching the growth and blooms. Enjoy!
Hi.....fr malaysia 👋🏻 Feel calm jst watching you.....such an inspiration. Mult talented humble.......easy going I so look forward God Bless Enjoy 😊
Some varieties of roses are just prone to black spot. It doesn't affect the blooms but are just unsightly. In the UK roses are pruned any time in winter between November and February. (I take mine down to knee height and mulch with manure.) Your house and garden are lovely, you made a great choice. But it's baby steps as there is so much to do still. Don't feel pressured by commentators telling you to paint this first or change this next. You do you.
I’m glad your back ,France suits you….
Cut the roses back, dig around the base and loosen the soil and add rose fertilizer.
So cool, I get it, I am with you girl, I love gardening also❤️🙂
