At this stage it might be worth working with an interior designer who has access to exclusive wallpapers that you won't find in a regular shop. I think the room is worth it if you can find something that truly fits.

I agree. I’d find this job overwhelming.
I think you should continue searching for a wallpaper that that really grabs you, Carole. Will the color of your draperies have an impact on what color and pattern you ultimately choose?

I agree, no gold in the paper.... rather silver and then rethink the paint colour. You may want the gold you have already added to stand out? Just my thoughts.😊
Hi Carole, I would stay away from gold in the wallpaper, personally. In my opinion, it will detract from the gold foil, and be overshadowed or made dull by contrast with the gold foil. I do like the cool grey of the original paper. But I am sure that you will make a good decision.

Hi Kate, I'm still searching for one that grabs my heart!
The door is so lovely and the hard work will making it a thing of beauty!
What's missing is the lavender and pink tones in the wallpaper. The lavender is being interpreted as grey in the machine, or maybe the ink is doing that; if a more pink gradation instead of the light grey/ivory/etc. were used, it might print with a more pearlescent tone as well. Mes deux centimes...
I imagine you’ve probably looked at the Zuber wallpapers? I suspect they cost the moon and then some, but they have a huge variety of very appropriate historic damask designs, and you can even customize the colours. Would it be worth the splurge?

@ Yes, I knew about the company, and knew it was a highly upscale, historic, handmade product, but didn't have a real idea of the cost. I can well imagine you balking at the price! But be patient...... the right thing will come up. Maybe Anna from Honfleur could help you come up with a design you could lino-print for a hand-made look. You seem to have the patience of Job for the detail work!
Awesome u found ur desired wallpaper!!! Another WIN WIN. AND ADRIAN IS REALLY DOING WELL WITH CHARGING THE CAR AND THE BIG ECO POWER BOOSTER FOR ELECTRICS PLUS HIS TOOLS!!! NOTHING CAN STOP U PPL NOW WITH MORE SOLAR PANNELS!!!👍👍
I really like the silver. I think using both silver and gold will keep it from being overwhelmed by one color. I like mixing metals!
Carole, it's thrilling to see the results of your countless hours of hard work! I do wonder if wallpaper distribution works there like here in the states. Here, paint stores have run of the mill, vinyl papers. We can go to design stores to see the higher-end designer papers, which I think is what you're looking for. They're probably online, and since this isn't your first rodeo, you likely know this. I'm just anxious for you to fall in LOVE with the right one!

Carole I love the Damask wallpaper, I think the gold with the cream back ground would be gorgeous with your gold leaf on the ceiling and chandelier I wouldn't go with the silver. Maybe you can find a wallpaper with a very light delicate gold with the cream background. God Bless Kathy 🇺🇸
So impressed with your skills and positive approach to hard work. You’re very blessed.
I love the printed wallpaper SO much, those roses are divine
After all the meticulous work that you both have done in this room, don’t give up now to find just the “right” paper ❤❤
The pattern is beautiful, the color is a little hard to determine through my computer, I know Carole you will choose the best one. Take care of your headache. Love from NY.

So exciting that you are getting closer to finding your perfect wallpaper... hand in there!!!
I remember sepia photos from the early to mid 20th century that were hand colored. Were you to paint colors onto ok your monochromatic printed paper this could be very effective. Think of Wallace Nutting, “The Coming out of Rosa.”

@ I know I love wallpaper, but the one time I had a room that needed papering, I could not find even one decent paper! My local shop seemed to only have paper fit for a nursery, which I supposed would be fine if I had children 🤣
Thank you for the good chuckle , enjoyed the wrap up at the end of this weeks video. Keep up the search, you’ll know. When your heart sings that will be it. Take care and have a good week.
I love the gray one. So pretty
Part of what you're running into with the wallpaper is that you want the kind of luxe feel you can't get with contemporary wallpapers from a book. You simply can't properly pair gold leafed details with basic paper. The tactile quality you want isn't available without going bespoke in materials and artistry. I still think the original should be handpainted. I know it sounds like a lot, but after hand leafing all the ceiling trim it's not really. What I would do is have your original that your daughter did up, paste it up as a guide and then do a very slight metallic wash where you wish, and either hand gouache it in particular areas to add depth or even make and use various stencils to layer on with a thicker medium and build it up. Not THICK... just enough to give the impression of layers of paint. So it WILL be handpainted but not like you have to do the whole thing from nothing. It's how complex handpainted fabric wallpapers were done to begin with. If you're super fancy you can do it in a linen or silk paper and that will add the natural sheen that gives the depth you want. Yes it's a ton of work compared to just papering a wall but it will give you the feeling you want in the room. Anything stock isn't going to fit now that you've levelled up the room.

@Andrea Bell - "Part of what you're running into with the wallpaper is that you want the kind of luxe feel you can't get with contemporary wallpapers from a book. You simply can't properly pair gold leafed details with basic paper. The tactile quality you want isn't available without going bespoke in materials and artistry. " These words express my thoughts and feelings better than my own limited knowledge can express. In my own words I am only able to say "the store bought wallpaper doesn't have the right feel to it. They all look 'childish' in comparison." But Carol has never failed to pull off miracles with what she has to work with so I'm dying to she what she comes up with. Secretly I'm hoping she is able to replicate the original paper. I like it that much.
Enjoyed seeing you both again lovely wallpapers
.. that riff of the opening sends one into a desire of expectation with not wanting it to end.
Did you know you can use heat to remove paint? There are infrared lamps that will lift paint up easily.
Love following your journey.
I love the gold toned paper. It would go great with all the gold leaf your doing. So glad the light fixtures got fixed.
Another lovely video.
If you use 2 rolls of paper to begin, alternating one strip from roll A and then a strip from roll B, you will knock out wasting paper on repeats in most all cases. or at least lessen the waste.
I think the orginal wall paper the most - I wish there was a way to make it work.
Definitely the gold with the cream colour paint. Noticed also it matches the colour tones of the outside brickwork
I still love the pattern of the original paper……
Trust your instincts! The one on the left, mimics the moldings !!

I'd consider having a professional conservator look at the original wallpaper. My suspicion is that it might have been much more colourful originally!
Toile de Jouy is a possibility as they come in different colour ways
If you want really beautiful wallpaper, search for Eiffinger wallpapers. They sell them here in the Netherlands but in sure they sell in other countries as well
I hope one of the wallpapers works. I thought the gold toned looked very nice with the paint color and gold leaf. The phone can be deceiving with the colors though. So glad you can now get the chandelier put back together. Thanks so much.

I love the gold paper! 💛
I think a beautiful blue and gold wallpaper will be stunning.
It’s going to be a beautiful room.
I think the gold wallpaper is a little (ok-a lot) too “Las Vegas.”
I believe there are companies who specializes in old historical wallpapers. They collect original samples and copies them. I’ve seen something about that in a Swedish television program a couple of years ago. Good luck with the search for your beautiful salon 🥰 Good work there! 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
I think maybe your reproduction paper looks flat in part because it truly is made from different shades of the same color (hue). There aren’t highlights and lowlights in slightly different hues. However, I totally understand that in order to fix that, someone with the right skills would need to truly re-produce the original, possibly using paint on paper (unless they were an expert with the new digital art tools).
Angie has gold glitter gold cream designer wall paper it’s shined pretty with lamps on in my lounge 🥰
I liked the 1st gold one you showed in the book. First page.
Happy the chandelier got repaired. I like the idea of either going with high end wallpaper or having Carole hand paint it. A grand salon needs grand wallpaper. I think there is a company Angel and Stephanie utilized to make historical wallpaper from a copy taken from their chateau. It’s worth a check. Thanks for sharing 😍😘

You are both such a talented team and are doing a fabulous job. This may be too late but the method used to drape your curtains in the salon is called French Stringing. It is simply a case of putting round curtain rings on the back and then passing cord through them. Remember the Tarts Knickers of the 80’s? I have a couple of curtain making books from when we lived in UK. I would gladly send them to you if they would help. Good luck with all you are doing.

Susie,, so sorry for the late reply. No never heard of french stringing, but I think I understand. I've have trouble trying to get the bottom look right. Books are far too expensive to post, but thank you anyway. You could always photo the page and email me at chateaudelaferte@gmail.com
Maybe you already do this, but my mom used to mix borax and bicarbonate of soda with water for stripping paint or varnish from furniture before refinishing it. Might work on walls and doors as well.
I’ve got no idea, but either wallpaper looks good to me. Can’t wait to see the door Adrian’s working on bought back to life

definitely gold ...the silver hurts my eyes ...x from Queensland
Perhaps there are French wallpaper companies with antique prints that are available for order. I did poke about on the web and found a very interesting print from the company "Zuber"...their "La Pavlova" wall paper collection offers embossed prints that you might find interesting.

Have you ever considered fabric for wall coverings applied with liquid starch?
Go with the gold one Carole! It will be excellent!
I agree the design lacks definition but if you have to choose a grey one from the bottom…
You are getting there Carole.....slow but sure!
Wow Carole, I wouldn't want to be choosing just the right wallpaper to go with all your gold leaf work etc., etc., Whew, glad it's not my decision! No doubt you'll find just the right colour and pattern!
Жыл бұрын
Let’s hope so!
I like the original design that's on the wall, but think there might be a little too much detail that is dark. Of course without really seeing it in person, it's hard to pinpoint the issue. This will sound strange, but what if you use a medium blue or blue-gray to bring out a little detail in the design, maybe a little red on other parts, on a cream background, with gold highlights in the design. Just thinking outside the box. I feel like to get what you want, you will need to try other colors. That's when I pull out the color wheel. Good Luck and can't wait to see what you find.

I like the middle one of the five. It’s not necessarily gray or gold, but I agree, not sure if any of them are the one
Beth is an excellent model for the wallpaper, is that your side job while you go to school? Nice the chandelier got fixed! Let’s see if Adrian remembers how it goes together, I know I wouldn’t. Lol. Cheers Kirk

Your videos are almost always too short...I enjoy them so much and get caught up in what you are doing and then it ends and I have to wait. But that's to show you how interesting your videos are - especially this wallpaper hunt. BTW, I'm for keeping it as similar to original as possible - even if you have to hand paint some silver onto paper! I'll volunteer to do the hand painting if you fly me over there - LOL! I do have a degree in art from CSULB. And again, I enjoy your family and all that dry wit! Love it! Ok. On to "Project Salon Wallpaper."

Maybe you could get Anna from 'How to Renovate a Chateau...' to teach you how to cut a linoleum block and show you how to create your own. I think you are just missing the dimensional look.
@myrtlesnow2397

The original paper looks to be a grisaille from the Victorian era. It was probably hand blocked with many different layers and shades to get the look, not printed on a machine which is why they can't find anything comparable.
@LCamp-cr7fs
Жыл бұрын
Basically a great idea! But I think lino cuts are not the style Carole is looking for. However, Anna has art training and might know techniques that enhance brocade type of wallpapers to give them a more dimensional, hand painted effect.

@@LCamp-cr7fs I watched her wallpaper video bought 2 lino blocks and used her technique with a double stencil baroque pattern . Carole is much more talented than me. She could do this! She has poured herself into this salon, please don't let her settle!

Жыл бұрын
@Madeline Rivers Yes, I have and think her style is terrific. I just think that Carole might be happier with a hand painted look that gives dimension and depth similar to the details she did on the ceiling. And I do think that she is talented, but perhaps not as knowledgeable about different mediums.
I like #3 on the wall paper tint. But that gold wallpaper looks good too. About the generators. How easy is the solar charger system? I would love to invest in something like this one day.

Hiya! The solar panels are unbelievably easy! No wiring or anything is require of you, you just plug them into whatever you’d like to charge (power station or car etc.) and that’s it, they will start working!
Look at DESIGNER GUILD. Beautiful papers.
Needs to be shown natural afternoon light the paper
Don't use paint stripper use a heat lamp for paint ... heats for few seconds then scraps off. Great weld on chandelier ... sand blast the grills
As always, you leave me wanting more. You might want to post a some other countries’ EcoFlow links so all purchases benefit you. If you get credit from all purchases using your discount code that wouldn’t matter.

You should be able to change countries within the website. I will check as that’s a good idea!
The beige colors go with gold best.. grey should be with silver.
Carole and Adrian, your salon DESERVES exquisite, luxury, DESIGNER wallpaper. They exist, and you need to find someone who can give you access to the various makers of them. As few rolls as you need for your panels, and as the wallpaper will be there for many years, it is worth the expense and effort to "get it right."
