Visiting the Mach Loop in Wales with the F-86F Sabre in Microsoft Flight Simulator

Ойындар

Today we're taking the F-86 Sabre for a couple of laps of the "Mach Loop" in Wales - the famous RAF training area where fast jet pilots learn to fly at low level. Enjoy!

That was a great demonstration of the plane! I was contracted in to write User Guides for Milviz Inc. back in 2011. The planes they were developing were for MS FSX back then. The first Aircraft User guide that I wrote was for their F86F-30, which they started developing around 2011. If I recall correctly, it was released for FSX in late 2012. The User Guide I wrote for that plane was, and still is, the one that I liked the most of all the guides I had written for Milviz between 2011 and 2018. The F86F was my favorite of the jet aircraft line and even though I went on to write at least 8 or 9 more User Guides, (including one for the Milviz F-4E and F-4S & J), it was the F86F-30 that I enjoyed the most of all. BTW: Here's a little 'fun-fact' about the F86: The F86 was the first plane to break the sound barrier and broke the sound barrier about 2 weeks BEFORE the X-1 did! However, it only accomplished that Mach-1 speed in a dive. Also, Godzilla and the F86 sabre both shared their very first movie debut in the 1954 release of original Godzilla film. (Just a couple of FYI's 😉). I plan to buy this F86 from Shrike ASAP and I'm glad to see they've finally added it to MSFS. Thanks again for the video! Rich

Can't wait for the photos Dafydd Phillips grabbed as you flashed past him in the Loop. Seriously, very nice vid with a clearly enjoyable airplane.

The first production supersonic aircraft for both USA and Australia .. I love it

Not really - It could break the sound barrier in a dive under ideal circumstances - though that wasn't recommended - led to a lot of losses - but even the more powerful Australian version with the Rolls Royce Avon was really still a high subsonic aircraft. 1st American production supersonic would be the F100 Super Sabre - Mirage III was probably the 1st one in Australian service.

I wonder how fast the F-86D with the afterburner was ? (too lazy to look it up lol)

@@jonbeckett There wasn't much in it - there were a whole series of engine/airframe variants for both and performance figures are rarely comparable. Though when the Americans built special tweaked versions to set speed records they used a SabreDog. The Sabre engines were generally around 22-25kN, the SabreDog engines mostly about 24kN dry, 33kN wet - but the SabreDog was quite a bit bigger and heavier than the Sabre - certainly it had the reputation as being not as manoeuvrable as it's little cousin - being optimised very much for the interceptor role. The Australian and Canadian versions of the Sabre - which used RR Avon and Avro Orenda respectively were getting 33kN dry from those engines so those may have been the highest performing versions - in line service at least.

Any chance you can re visit the Mach loop and see if your dark hill has been texture changed?. I have just revisited MFS after nearly a year and the hill on that corner is still flat dark. Did you install some scenery pack for Wales? I have done all the updates and so on, took a flight today and its still dark in that area. Love the loop but always put off by the missing textures.

We all kind of know how the F-86 flies, many of us have been flying it in MSFS since the FS2004, 20 years. I'd like to know more about the improvements Milvis/Blackbird/now Shrike has made to this soon to be released F-86. Make a video on the fuel system, hydraulic system and other updates from the FSX/P3D version, if there is any? Why is that Yellow warning light on? It's been on for the entire flight on both of your videos. Why haven't you reset the hydraulic system after engine start? Just curious? Can you carry 4 drop tanks, is that modeled? What's with the large white glare band in the front windscreen on your landing? That's horrible, along with all the canopy glare in your video. I mean really, it's just awful. How about a night flight to show us how the panel looks at night. I'm assuming it must be terrible with the instrument panel reflecting back at you and does the rear view mirror look like a high beam in your face at night with the lights on? Did they include a Asobo GPS unit that can be used on flights. 99 percent of modern day restored Sabres have a GPS unit installed. Like a hotspot that swaps out the gunsight for a GPS unit? You know what they say, you get what you pay for, and this looks like a excellent example of that theory. This F-86 should be on the same level as the Milviz F4U which was very well done, but unfortunately, I don't see that here.

Why don’t you wait for review videos to come out instead of making demands here, or better yet do one yourself, you seem to be knowledgeable of these aircraft.

  • @jonbeckett

Shrike make simplified aircraft for MSFS for the mass market - they are unapologetically NOT study level. These are early videos based on what they have released so far, just to give people an idea. The F-86 has been updated twice already in the run-up to release, and no doubt will change further following release. You might be better off asking Milviz/Blackbird/Shrike your questions directly, rather than somebody who happens to record what he's up to in MSFS on KZread :) You might also like to fill in your real name, and have some content in your channel - people tend to judge how much effort to expend on the veracity of the audience. It's worth noting that a lot of your points are what you would like to see - not necessarily what Shrike are aiming to deliver.
