NOT A REAL PILOT! Just an aviation enthusiast sharing what I have learned about the various aircraft we can all pretend to fly in simulators. Along the way I occasionally write up checklists for the more complex aircraft.
This is the aircraft I love to use. I have arguably better or more entertaining or better performing aircraft, but this is the one that feels right, particularly when I go exploring (usually because I underestimated terrain or weather!). I really hope this can be updated to study level someday. Thanks again, JB.

Hi Jon, don’t know if you have had the same issues but I have found the FMC in the PMDG aircraft has many shortfalls with SIDS & STARS not in the database. Surprised given how good the aircraft itself is. Best wishes.
@jonbeckettКүн бұрын
You need Navigraph to update the database within the aircraft. The PMDG aircraft don't use the same database as the simulator.

Is there a GPS mode we can switch for the aircraft to follow the default flight plan made in the map screen prior to beginning a flight? or is it like the B-1 Lancer, where the switch is there but it just can't be selected ... 😟
@rustyneedles37432 күн бұрын
and if there is no functioning GPS system for the aircraft to follow ... what do people do? or is this plane only manual flying only? ... unfortunately I'm still an ultra noob and know little about VOR's approaches etc ... but I'm guessing the aircraft can pick up those types of guidance, just no GPS guidance, which I would normally use throughout a pre-planned flight

Hello Jonathan, thanks for your very interesting video. I originate from Zimbabwe, so flying in Africa is relevant to me. I have one question about Thrustmaster pedals to steer while taxiing. I recently purchased the 737-800 after having the Fenix A320 since the date it came out. My problem is, I tried setting the rudder for the pedals but while I taxi, I had to „pump“ continuously to steer in the direction I wanted to go on the ground, not sure why. Perhaps you could kindly just share that particular setting for the pedals, I’d much appreciate that. Thanks, Karl

You were indeed pretty slow at first touch and go, 130 is kinda GA speed, I was surprised you haven't stalled actually. I usually set the autothrottle to 160 knots, in my experience that is a safe speed even for landing, however you still get "sucked" to the ground at the end, which I don't really like about the mod. p.s. It's a shame that you haven't found this mod like weeks after lol, when they updated the soundpack. It's still not perfect but much better, especially flyby.

The reason you cant turn on LNAV on the ground is because of that very tight turn after takeoff. If your first turn is over 5 degrees (IIRC) of the runway heading it won't switch on until after takeoff

I have a serious problem with the pitch trim on this aircraft. The nose pitches up about 45 degrees with zero trim adjustment. I need to crank in about -37 to -40 degrees of trim to keep the nose level. The only trim adjustment is the very slow and awkward hat button on the stick. If this is activated with the mouse, it clicks off the trim setting very, very slowly. It is such a bother to trim this aircraft level that I quit flying it. I contacted Shrike/Milviz about the problem and they basically ignored me. I would advise against purchasing this aircraft.

Right hand ecu is usually started first as the APU runs the the right hand SPS (Secondary Power System) gearbox, reducing load (via the cross drive clutch...not x drive...) and giving less chance for the apu to overload and trip out.

Another ex Tornado engineer told me pretty much the same - it's interesting, because the official panavia documentation specifically states that it doesn't matter which side first - and Indiafoxtecho have programmed the switch to go left first, no matter what you do.

The plane is very easy to fly, and the idea behind the parts used is great. The landing, however, is terrible. Immediately after touching down, the plane spins in all directions and is impossible to maneuver on the ground (XBoxX with Velocity One Flightstick). I've never had that happen with any of my over 100 planes!

Just looking at the engine startup, in the real one, with a cold engine, you have to turn the electric fuel pump on (switch to the left of gen/bat), fuel boost on (switch to the left of speedometer), throttle to full, then back to idle, then 1/4 inch, and THEN crank the starter. Otherwise it's not going to start. The X-plane version of the SimSolutions DA20 does this better.
