Visiting a French Winery Run by Veterans

At the Domaine du Capitaine Danjou winery in southeastern France, retired members of the French Foreign Legion harvest grapes and bottle red, rosé and white wine. The work is hard but therapeutic, providing a sense of purpose and peace. And you can’t beat the scenery. The property is also the site of a retirement home for those who have served in the elite branch of the French Army.

1:12: translation mistake “J’ai trouvé l’excellence” doesn’t mean “I found excellent:” but “I found quality/perfection”. It is a very vague and rare expression. He means that he found the best of most things (wine or friendship).

Considering that the origin of the English word excellence is the 14th century French word excellence get your head out of your ass that's just whacky sentence structure

College Cook oui mais en anglais c’est un terme archaïque. Je pense que les français l’emploient plus que les anglais donc s’ils avaient traduit mot a mot bcp auraient était confus

Note : The young legionaries that you see are reinforcements sent by the various FFL regiments during the major works (harvest or other) according to their possibilities. They are often young recruits, usually a section, for a week, then the section is relieved by another. Why not more: because more people could interfere with this retirement home. Frequently, the various active FFL regiments make 3-4 day marches in the hinterland (Provence) to work on rusticity. And often it ends in this area, with a small ceremony and a meal with our vets.

@lavender fields wine is good. Have you tried 14 hands? Its red wine. Try it with some grape soda and you'll get drunk. 1 good cup will do good. Remember to put the cap back in and put it back in the freezer. You can also freeze chill by using salt and and cold water in a big bucket. So it can be chilled nicely. White zinfandel strawberries are pretty good too. 4 year bottles are good. Anything under is ew.

As I'm still in active service I can't tell you much about the day to day life and being taken care of at the winery. Still the truth is that everyone working there pay their stay from their pension and for that lodging and food is provided. I'm not too familiar with the benefits the veterans of USMC but I do hope that they get treated better than our veterans, who get jack.
