Here is a thought: Have the children write reports about famous figures from Virginia. Then select the best essay and rename the school with that person’s name. I just solved the problem.

You tipped your hand by showing your knowledge of the country. Maybe every citizen should have to pass the same immigration exam as a legal immigrant does to gain citizenship before they can vote in our elections. It’s clear that you don’t know enough about this country to have a say in who runs it.

The real history is that the South lost the war! And FYI, the Civil War was the worst war this country ever fought! Over 750,000 soldiers died! The combined number of total deaths North & South! You can blame the Southern colonies ! THOMAS PAINE / author of ThevRights of Man abd COMMON SENSE wanted to free the slaves and give women the right to vote in 1776! The Southern colonies refused to sign the Declaration of Independence if those two things were accomplished! History you NEVER learned in these Southern states! MARYLAND YANKEE here! The single ,bloodiest one day battle of the Civil War was fought in Maryland on September 17,1862! Antietam / Sharpsburg, MD 23,000 fallen in that battle! The beautiful MD flag reflects the division in our state! The black & gold stripes represent the UNION / Calvert Family . The red and white cross/ Confederates / Crossland Family . The flag was designed to being both sides together after the Civil War. The statues of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass are displayed in our State Capitol in Annapolis , MD! Home of the US Naval Academy! 🤗🤗🤗💙💙💙💙💙💙💙⚓️⛵️⚓️GO NAVY! 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

It does nothing functionally and the people who might be inclined to steer clear of the state due to this are the same kind of trivial minded people that you don't want in the first place. It's kind of like when the NAACP declared Florida a no travel zone. Although it really didn't fool anyone (Not even the chairman of the NAACP, who owned and still owns a house in Florida.) However the handful of people who believed and acted on it are not the sorts of people that are going to contribute much to the state or society in general.

You should know that Memphis had a contract with China to sell their cotton it was much more money than the federal government had ever had. The federal government wanted to tax some of this cotton going overseas and the South said no. So the war was just as much about taxation because the South refused to give any of the money to the federal government. The federal government didn't want to sit around and watch the South make 100 times more money than they would ever make

You’re sharing white supremacy disinformation. 1860 federal taxes were primarily based on IMPORT TARIFFS. The total tax generation for all northern ports, including New York, was $48.3 million. New York City collected $34.9 million in tariff revenues. The entire South generated only $4.0 million in tariff revenues, with New Orleans being the southern port that collected the most, at $3.1 million. New Orleans was captured without resistance by the Union in 1862.
