Ngl actively been stretching my imagination in how BeReal will inevitably get corrupted once it reaches a critical mass of assholes. And one thing I’ve realized about social media platforms is that the assholes - be they compliantly dim-witted, maliciously calculated and/or shamelessly self-obsessed - will ALWAYS find a way to ruin things.

@@antonina8337 instagram already is testing a knockoff within the platform yet considering the truly nightmarish ridiculously fake and retrograde influencer culture/ aesthetic they’ve forced on society , which BeReal obviously symbolizes a rejection of, so far everyone hates it. Unsurprisingly, and to my personal relief. Meta by which I mean Facebook (bc fuck their rebrand) can honestly burn in hell.

Literally yesterday two kids ask me to take their be reel picture. I do it but have no clue what happened or why I'm in it. I watch this skit tonight and all is explain. Thank you SNL cast of 22.

Duuuuuuuude literally the same thing happened to me three days ago. I was so confused why when they had me take the pic why my face was in it from the front camera (and obviously oblivious so looking totally foolish). 🤣

It's hard to imagine something that advertisers would love more than people giving them a steady flow of information about how they actually spend their time.

I had no idea this app even existed, and that SNL was just doing a brilliant spoof of social media. But sure enough, it exists. And ironically BeReal has probably seen a huge uptick in downloads since this episode aired. Crazy world.

Companies pay SNL to create skit advertisements for their brands. This wasn’t a free ad for BeReal. They paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the exposure.

I deleted social media about 3 years ago. The only “social” platform I had was KZread. I downloaded BeReal cus it’s really not addicting. There are no ads or “casino type” feeds. The feed ends with how many friends you have online so if you have 3 friends, you only get to see 3 posts and so on. You cant filter the photos. Everyone gets the notification at the same time. It’s nice, I would suggest it

Don’t. It’s literally the fakest and most boring thing. People are faking “being real” it’s actually funny. You can still edit it a tad and if you had to compare it to anything itd be like the basic idea of Snapchat. Take a pic for your friends

A few weeks ago I went to help my friend at another school with stagecraft for their musical and her and her friends dropped everything to do bereal and I was so confused because either it hadn’t hit my school yet or I’m just clueless. Then when snl came back the other night I finally understood lmfao

I really don’t think snl ripped this one off. the fairban films skit was only posted 4 days before this, and snl would have had the script written at least a few days before it was posted. i think this is mostly a coincidence

I saw this and thought they’d made it up.

On the same wavelength as Fairbairn is always a good place to be

Not exact, theirs was after a bank robbery, close enough when coupled with the Charmin skit though to make a person wonder if some of the writers are just surfing youtube for ideas thinking no one will notice
