Violating Expectations - A 5 minute introduction

The introduction to a series of new videos to help fearful flyers and others experiencing intrusive anxiety learn how to separate experiencing uncomfortable pesky sensations aligned with danger, from actually being in danger. So much of this is automatic yet if we’re to put anxiety in its place we must learn new ways to think about and experience our own sensations and behaviours. And learn some new ones which are better but require practice. Look away if you expect magical cures - this is the wrong channel for you!

This is so in line with how anxiety works and how to overcome it really, rewiring your amygdala to teach it not to fear so many things around you.

Great little video, I like the short format, as well. And no apologies necessary, Captain!! I think the best snippet from an older video of yours was something along the lines of, "turbulence may be uncomfortable but it is not unsafe."

That phrase comes from the time I was running a Fear of Flying program for an airline in Australia in 1994! I cannot claim it as my own however... but in the forthcoming series, I will be adding one small and important element - stay tuned!

My brain, whilst I'm driving , thinks that having to stop at the lights is a deadly threat. An incident of a blood pressure drop occurred, causing me to feel like I was going to faint. An immediate panic repose flooded my body, and from then on I've developed a panic disorder where I panic about panicking. I want to fly to Europe next year and want to get my nerves in order. I can't imagine what would happen if I were to have a panic attack and can't just pull over to the side of the road to recover while 30 thousand feet up in the air.
