+Alexander Ekeberg thanks man! Glad you liked it! More Q and A videos in the future!
Jarrett, with all due respect, there is no such thing as a ceramic stylus. All styli are made of diamond or sapphire, and are conical or elliptical in shape. What you are referring to is the cartridge the stylus is attached to. Turntables can have either a magnetic or ceramic cartridge. The Crosleys are shitty because the amplifiers that they use fail to match the output impedance of the ceramic cartridge on the tone arm. Older ceramic cartridge systems, like on BSR record changers, would need to be attached to an external amplifier. I have an old Realistic Model 49 BSR made record changer hooked to a Realistic SA-155 amp with a ceramic cartridge input going out to Realistic Minimus-7 speakers (RIP Radio Shack). This is my 45/78 setup (I can stack 5 or 6 45s on there) and it works fine. The reason I use this for those records is the Model 49 has a flip over stylus; one side has a 0.7 mil conical for the 45s and the other side has a 3 mil conical for the 78s. Also, I don't worry too much about tracking force on 78s, they were typically rated to be played at over 20 grams of pressure. With a big steel needle. In order to play 78s properly on your AT-LP120, which does play them, you'd have to adjust the tracking force up and swap out the stylus (or have a dedicated head shell with cartridge and 3 mil stylus) every time you wanted to spin one. I also like the record changer. I grew up with them. The parents of all of my friends, with few exceptions, had BSR or Garrard record changers. I bought mine from a ShopGoodwill auction for $8 plus shipping and restored it myself. One more thing, I think the AT-LP60 is a good choice for a budget turntable, but if you spend a few more bucks, you can get a Pioneer PL990. It has the same mechanism and cartridge as the LP60, but it also has a real pitch control. That's what I'm currently using for LPs.

I just started collecting vinyl records! I got 3 interesting metal ones... and from now on, I'll take care of my mother's collection which was just collecting dust in a closet... my turntable arrives tomorrow! I'm quite excited about it! :O
I recently flew in from france with three records i had bought there. I myself was super nervous that they would break so i packed them up in like 5 plastic bags and had them between my legs throughout the flight in order to avoid damage. Despite some throwing around of the bag they are still mint and weren't warped at all.

I like it, it discusses pros and cons, it shows questions people have and it produces solutions. However, I like the record logo cuz its fun. Anyway, Cheers.

I just got a Sansui QRX-5500, vintage receiver. I have to vintage Bose 401's, and an Accoustimass 6 surround sound set up. I was thinking, because of the ability of the receiver to run so many speakers I would use both set ups. Can I? How would I go about connecting all of this?

two things. 1,I have not to many records but something I would call a magic vinyl box. we are looking through the box, then all the sudden there are titles we didn't know we had like "to all the girls I ever loved" 45 or imperial records folk music 78's we found inside a jamboree song compilation record set that was missing the inner box. 2, in case you want to hold a lot of cds in one place, there are 200 or more cd changers(I have one myself)

@vinyleyezz

+Randi Strømsvik hold it up to your eye sideways to check for warps, and slowly rotate the vinyl around to check the surface for scratches.
Robert Rich! Nice name drop buddy. Been listening to him for years. One of the greatest (and first) ambient music pioneers. Everybody should know who this guy is.
In my opinion, vinyl is the best way of listening to music, warm and fulfilling sound, and they certainly look cool and it's much more fun to look through crates and shelves than scrolling and downloading, I barely ever use streaming services just for the fact that vinyl is 100 times better.
Thank you. I still need to buy that Black Sabbath album. I heard it on vinyl at a friend's house was floored by it. I stream it on Tidal... But I need to have the real thing
What is your favorite album to listen to? And if you were stuck on a desert island what albums would you bring with you including album box sets?
I have an ambient project myself. It's called Hollow Summer
I have a question and i hope you can answer it. So my current record player has no preamp, but my amplifier has a "phono" input which means there is a preamp in my amplifier. but what if i buy the Lp120 which have a build in preamp and plug it into the "phono" input of my amplifier? then the sound signal is going thru 2 Preamps before going into the amplifier. is that bad?
So if you replace the mat with a deer hide one, does that affect to tone arm weight on a Audio-technica LP60? Isn't it at 3.4 or 3.5 stock, so would the deer hide mat make it apply more pressure to the record, due to how thick the mat is?
Have you ever heard of a Marantz 6350q from the 70s? i recently acquired one and it seems to sound really good to me.
Just a small note regarding vinyl colour and sound quality: I have a couple of records where the vinyl is half 'n half two solid colours, one of them yellow/black. And I can tell you that the noise floor on the yellow portion is significantly louder that the black. At the start of each side you get waves of background noise, almost like waves on a beach. So yes, the colour does have something to do with sound quality. Then again, it could just be because of different quality of the vinyl itself as some black records can be noisy as well. I'm no expert in this field.
Thanks for all the info you provide. I'm gonna get into it....on a budget, but still want to do it right. And I strongly belive, 200-250 for a setup to start with is doable (yes, I heard you. No all in ones. I get it.)
ok so i have a old record player and i dont know anything about it the record player is a firestone record player that is from the 50s. and are firestone players bad? it comes with 2 speakers but i dont know if its in mono. when i open it up i see switchs and on it it says in red HI-FI there are 2 switchs. one is to turn it on and to turn the volume. the second is to change the tune of it. and there is a lever to change the speed of the table. the player is a firestone high fidelity. and sorry if i miss spelled i lot
The 3records I would choose are ,Pictures at an Exhibition by TOMITA , Band on the run by Paul McCartney, and Santana Abraxis in descreat quad not sq quad . And preferably on a reel to reel played on a akai X Crossfield quad deck !
very informative and enjoyable

Hey Jarrett, I've been using a soundbar to play my records for the time being. Is that good, or would you recommend a receiver?
as far as crosley goes, they do make a good entry-level TT, the C100 i'd recommend it for anyone who wants to dabble in the experience
Where I am you can buy "Dark side of the moon" for about $16-24
What do you think of Crosley's component turntables? Also what do you think about ION turntables? Thanks!!!
~ I year later I hope you are building your collection from the back years to the forward. As late as you are to the vinyl table, I would also suggest your continue purchasing current simultaneously to building up your classic and underground back catalogue. When I heard you say you had 200 records, I was kinda sorta floored; thought you might have more. I have more than 200 of just 5 artists: James Brown, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Donna Summer & Santana: LPs 12" & 7" singles. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

Give him time! Finding inexpensive vinyl is nigh on impossible these days. Back when I was collecting, in my early to mid 20s, it was the early nineties, vinyl was just going out of fashion and people were offloading all sorts of great stuff to second hand record stores. I got about 80% of my 260-odd albums from two stores: Vinyl Exchange in Manchester and Record Collector in Sheffield, both of which still exist today. Back then, I could get hold of near mint records for barely more than £5, but now you're hard pushed to get anything for that kind of money unless you go to a charity shop, at which point you're usually picking up a destroyed mess (although I did pick up a Ronco six disc set of classical music for £4 which looks like it's never even been played). As a point of reference, I have a copy of My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" album, which I bought in Vinyl Exchange for £6, and today I could sell it on Discogs for about £90.
Is there any way you can do a super detailed breakdown of how you set up your speakers and receiver with your 120? I have the same table, but I have it connected into a Bose sound touch 30 without a receiver. It sounds okay but I want to get into the analog speaker game, and I don't know how to connect speaker wire or anything. It's just an idea and it'd be a big help, thanks!
Ive got about 300 records between 1914 and 2014, i keep passing up some great 78s but im running out of places to put them. I really need another book case.....
What's a good beginner setup?
Do I need a pre-amp for the Audio-Technica AT-LP60? or do I just need the record player and some speakers of my choice like maybe a set of computer speakers? And could you recommend a Decent set of speakers Just to get me started until this virus is over and I can get back to work and afford to upgrade my gear

Hi Vinyl Eyezz I was wondering on what you think about the audio technica lp1240 turntable and if its better than the lp120, thanks
I’ve been having some trouble recently with a joy division record that I have bought.its a 180g record so heavier than my others but when I originally bought it I thought the record had scratches and loops. I bought another one a second time and the same happened. My record player isn’t broken as all my other records play perfect. Is there a problem because my tone arm isn’t ‘heavy’ enough and do you need to do certain things to play 180g records. If not, what may be the issue.
Since you have the Carl Sagan's A Glorious Dawn vinyl, I'd like to know if you have also the Voyager 40th Anniversary from the Kickstarter project vinyl box.
I have started a vinyl collection but vinyls are expensive and cds are cheaper want vinyl from the most important albums but what would be a good cd set up
My dad started collecting vinyl when he was a teen and he stil has his first record and his first turntable Last month the needle broke after 40 years of entertainment he cryed so I gave him mine while I find a replacement one The player is a hmv mercury black and It sounded great still looking for needle
