That turntable in Shawshank also makes records. My parents had one and we would buy blank discs, plug in a mic and that large tone arm looking thing would cut the audio direct to the disc. Sure it sounded bad but it did work well enough to record dialog for us to send overseas to family. Still have some they sent us somewhere.

I have that record cutter. A Meissner Phono-recorder/PA system from 1947. When used properly, it can make some amazing recordings. Mine, however, has... other ideas, most of the time. As cool as that scene is, the thing that annoys me is that they cranked up the wrong volume knob. The left knob is for the mike input only, the right knob is for the radio and record player's volume.
High Fidelity 2000, John Cusack owns a record store, Jack Black works there. Lots and lots of record talk. You would love it!

First one I thought of too!
The mechanic was the first time I ever realized a turntable setup could be cool. Great film.
Song of the Day: Arnold Layne - Pink Floyd
The Shawshank record scene.Heart breaking and beautiful. If you dont cry watching this you are not human.
Into the Spiderverse, when Miles’ uncle starts playing a record in his apartment when you first meet him. I was already into the hobby at that point but I was like, damn, that’s a cool looking setup, even for an animated film.
Also in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, the co-main character Suzy brings a really cool portable record player when she runs away and in The Royal Tenenbaums theres a power scene two main characters have while spinning a record in a tent
*WHAT?!* No love for that scene in THE BLUES BROTHERS, where Jake, fresh out of prison, crashes at Elwoods 'elegant abode' and passes out to the sounds of Louis Jordan's 'Let the Good Times Roll' on the old portable?
Riki don't loose that number - Steely Dan
The Evil Dead has an acoustic gramophone that gets possessed and starts playing. That whole scene is actually my favorite in the entire movie.
You forgot to add the movie.”Warm Bodies” there’s a scene where one of the characters.Plays the song “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses.
A Clockwork Orange , man. Classic!
That was a really cool episode! Thanks a lot!
LOVED this video. I learned si much brother. Now I'm excited to observe what record players are in movies or shows when I watch something.

Thank you for watching Gregg! 👍
The film I like is My Girl. In the film there's a scene when Vada arrives home and goes up to her bedroom, puts a record on her record player, the record is Wedding Bell Blues by The 5th Dimension, and she grabs a picture that she and Mr Bixler, a writing class teacher, is in and she starts singing to him. A very memorable scene. Another one I remember is the opening scene of Billy Elliot when he puts Electric Warrior by T.Rex on the record player and plays Cosmic Dancer. Great song, great album.
A funny scene in Boonock Saints, is when the italian character comes home and starts cleaning everything out to run from the bad guys, he grabs a bunch of his records and one of the most Iconic record covers ever made shows up in his stack: Herb alpert and the TJB's "Whipped Cream and other Delights".
The beginning of Detroit Rock City from 1999 is a pretty great scene involving a record player
I own the same model of record player that was in the shawshank redemption! It's a Meissner 9-1065 "portable"(It weighs about 35-40 lbs) Phono recorder and P-A system from 1947. In the one used in the movie, they replaced the tonearm with a better tracking one as the original sometimes has trouble playing records. They also, for some unknown reason, put a large piece of fabric over the speaker.
I enjoyed this video, hope you do more!
Hey Jarrett, this was a good video idea! I actually watched The Mechanic last night because I had never heard of it until you mentioned it, haha! I laughed out loud at "DON'T EVER TOUCH THIS" :D
Solid list. Thank you!
I've never seen Almost Famous... but Tommy is one of my favorite albums/plays/films, so I'll have to check it out now.
Great idea for a video. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you. Stay safe and take care.
Disney/Marvel - "Antman" Paul Rudd falls into a party scene and onto a record while shrunk down. He hangs on to the grooves in the record for his life as it spins and the stylus needle hits him. It knocks him away as the record skips.
This was a really good video concept, please make another one
The Departed - Matt Damon listening to incriminating tapes
The Mechanic II also start with a turntable scene. I watched the first one on a plane and a few years later I was able to puchase that Project. Cheers from Chile
Rob Gordon's Turn table In High Fidelity. The Movie starts with a record on a turntable
1 Season of "Falling Skies". They are using a "Lenco B55" that's built into a compact stereo center from the 70's and they are playing "Many rivers to cross" bei Jimmy Cliff!
Thank you for mentioning The Shawshank redemption!!!!
Finally a video that's not about your turntable setup
I watched Love Simon and There's a part where Simon has an Audio Technica LP120 like you have when he's my In his room
in 7th grade, i played a trumpet solo with one of the Shaw Shank Redemption extras on piano
Baby Driver had one, there was a scene where he buys a record someone was talking about and he dances in his apartment listening to it
My favorite scene with a record player in it is the opening to Billy Elliot when he puts on cosmic dancer by t rex and jumps on the bed.
season one of stranger things is the best so many good memories from that show. I ended up making a mixtape on cassette recently for songs that remind of fall and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" is on it.
The clay sculpting scene in Ghost features a 1962 AMI Continental vinyl jukebox
6:40 I have the exact tonearm shown on my 1955 Traveler suitcase player.
The final scene from Mad Men episode Lady Lazarus! I'm not sure which season it is but Don plays Tomorrow Never Knows off of Revolver by the Beatles. One of my favorite scenes from a TV show by far.
The turntable in The Mechanic is the Pro-ject RPM9.1. The 9.2 wasn’t out yet at that time.
Song of the day: Telegraph Road - Dire Straits
In the show on Netflix “I am not ok with this” the dude that has a crush on the main character is a record nerd
In Looper there’s an awesome record player Gyro SE with Rega RB300 tonearm
yeah, the scene in Shawshank Redemption is pretty amazing!
Re: Almost Famous, it’s a Tru-Tone kiddie record player - what KZreadr RadioTVPhonoNut calls a “One Tube Wonder”. They were the Crosleys of their day and they were legion, similar ones were released in all colors, styles and brand names well into the 70’s. I had a psychedelic Acid Green Silvertone model from Sears when I was 5. I haven’t seen Almost Famous in years, but as I remember the scene, he’s listening to music with headphones, which you couldn’t do with those types of little suitcase kiddie players: they NEVER had headphone jacks; only the slightly fancier models with record changers, for teenagers, would have those
Check out 'Une heure de tranquillité'. It's a French movie about a guy who buys this rare record and rushes home to play it on his awesome expensive setup, but people keep preventing him from doing it.
equilibrium has a good scene with one too

Transformers fall of cybertron the classic
Klaatu were heavily rumoured to be a re-formed Beatles at the time. I remember the huge push this gave them. Of course they weren’t, but what an odd chapter to the legend.
Hey i have recently bought a turntable and I have a question: when I balance the tonearm and set it to 3 grams wich is recommended for my cartridge and pull down the lever the arm dips down below the platter. I am worried that it may be pressing down too hard on the vinyl and I can’t seem to find anyone talking about this so is it supposed to drop down that low or does it need to barely touch the record? have I screwed up?
If you haven't seen it, the action film "Nobody" from this year (2021) has a record player scene in it. It's also overall one of the best mainstream action films of the past couple of years.
Great video.! 🤙🏼🤘🏼👍🏼💪🏽✌🏼❤️🔥
@Vinyl Eyezz I have a question. Isn't using an amplifier with a turntable basically digitalizing it?
Last night in Soho featured a Vinyl Record player too. It was either an Crosley or Victrola
I would have loved to see the turntable that Sebastian Shaw has in X-Men First Class....it was a thing of beauty
Really enjoyed this video, it wasn’t what I had in mind when I think of turntables in movies, this was more about the music itself and its importance to the characters. As for significant turntable appearances in movies, Tomb Raider features a Clearaudio Master Reference, A Clockwork Orange features and Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference (had one of those myself a few years ago), Looper features a Michell Gyrodeck, X Men First Class features a Transcriptors Skeleton, La La Land features an AR Legend, now this is a TV show but Rebus has a Linn LP12 (really should be my next purchase given that I have an otherwise all Linn system myself) and Linn Ninka speakers (wonderful things, I’ve had a pair for years and have zero intention of parting with them).
The mini series Sharp Objects. VPI table and amazing equipment. Super high end stuff.
Good call on GHOST WORLD! Awesome movie and soundtrack!!!
Can you do a video on full dynamic range releases of albums?
A couple of good movies that featured vinyl records - "Coal Miner's Daughter" - Doolittle and Lorretta travel all over the country pitching her first ever 45 rpm record to radio stations. Similarly in Tom Hanks' movie The Wonders' only hit "That Thing You Do" is recorded to 45 and sold independently before an agent sign them up to a major record deal. Song of the Day? Look for this: "Remember Mary" by The Sweet Marie; came out in 1970.
1972 - Le grand blond avec une chaussure noire (Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe). At least two turntables (one at Jean Rochefort's den, another at Pierre Richard's home), and a Nagra or two.
In “Only Lovers Left Alive” there’s this dance scene where a couple plays Trapped by a thing called love by Denise LaSalle.
Favorite moments in a movie featuring a record player A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night: The Girl takes Arash to her house and puts on Death by White Lies. It’s a very tense/romantic moment and it’s probably the best scene in the movie. Only Lovers Left Alive: The opening scene with the song Funnel of Love by Wanda Jackson playing at a slow speed while the main characters are waking up. Maniac: the killer’s date/victim plays Goodbye Horses by Q Lazarus
My favorite example is in Hotel Chevalier (2007) short film by Wes Anderson
Hey will you plz tell me about Stanton t92 player I want it for my personal home use. Thnx.
It wasn't released when your video was shot, but "Anybody" have an excellent scene with a record player.
I watched the ghost city and the mechanic and the best was "ghost city" especially how the girl handle the record and the turntable😂😂
There is a great scene in Moonstruck where Nicolas Cage is playing opera on his turntable while Cher is leaving walking down the street. Also there is a scene in the movie CALL ME MADAM in a department store where Donald O'Connor is watching what looks like a broadcast turntable play a 78 before he starts singing to the tune.
I remember such scenes in Worm Bodies and Oblivion
thanks for making these great videos

Last week I went to Barnes And Noble and bought Shawn Mendes Handwritten blue vinyl
Bosch (TV Series on Amazon) has a solid Marantz and McIntosh setup. He plays a lot of great Jazz records.
Thanks for the Klaatu nod!
You need to watch the extended edition of almost famous !!! It’s so much better than the theatrical cut !
" Seeking a Friend For The End of the World " features a nicer vintage TT and large speakers , also a kid's record player Great film , many stars . Records are so important in this film .Herb Alpert's "This Guy's in Love With You " has a special place here .
Song of the day: The Razors Edge by AC/DC One movie that I’ve seen a record player in was Indian Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy went into that German spy’s hotel room and the record player was playing music from that time period.
Song of the day: Tool - the grudge

This is Good !!
Once upon a time in Hollywood!
Jackie Brown. Jackie plays a record when Max Cherry visits her at her apartment and he sits in awe of her. If you haven't seen it I won't ruin it by mentioning the song but it becomes very important to the story
My favourite record scene is from the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch" starring Tom Ewell and Marilyn Monroe. Basically what happens is once he meets Monroe's character and invites her for a drink, he puts a Rachmaninov record and visually sees her come downstairs looking like a diva! That same piece is heard frequently throughout the film as the characters develop.
I haven't seen _The Color of Friendship_ , but I watched the DisneyCember review of it, where Doug Walker points out that the girls listen to records in one scene.
Hi, I want to buy a record player for Christmas. I know not to buy crosleys however I can’t really afford anything over $200. I’ve tried to do research but it’s all a bit overwhelming. Here are my questions: 1. Are Victrolas as bad as crosleys? 2. If I buy the Audio Technica LP60X, can I just buy the Micca PB42X speakers and nothing else. I heard that the audio Technica has a build in preamp and those speakers have receivers because they’re active
Lullaby covered by The Editors as my pick for song of the the day.
What was the turntable in Looper?
The Mechanic is a remake of an original 1972 movie, where the main character was Charles Bronson and the spoiled sidekick was Jean Michael Vincent (RIP to both). But it also interested me when I compared both movies, the original movie did not give so much detail about the stereo as the remake. I remember Bronson was putting a record on the platter on what appears to be a high-end stereo back then, but no one cared about it because vinyl was the main music media back then. No one cared about the stereo, no one cared about the record, but the emphasis was, the hired hand was resting himself after his tough job with classical music on a nice stereo in an isolated place. In the remake, I realized the director preferred to give more emphasis to the stereo system itself. Also if you have a chance to watch Almost Famous' DVD extras - I know no one watches DVD anymore but you miss out those extra details - Frances McDormand is actually a Black Sabbath fan, where she says she was headbanging to Black Sabbath back those original times when she was actually a young girl, rather than a nosy professor mom she acted in that movie :)) Also interestingly, I saw a turntable scene with Beasty Boys in the remake of Star Trek in 2009, where Kirk was in bed with two gorgeous alien girls, and somehow the turntable - although it looks entirely manual and a high end to our standards - was playing the whole night... in the year 2500s...

Looks, I have to question my memory though. I went back to the original movie and saw Arthur Bishop, played by Charles Bronson, listening to his "classy" classical music in cassette tape :)) Shame on me!.. :)) It's not vinyl.
Columbo (TV series) on Amazon Prime (The Bye-Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case) features an ADC Accutrac 4000 in the plot.
In the Japanese anime "Serial Experiments Lain", Lain goes to a Techno Club where the DJ is spinning the vinyl. But the best one I can think of is A Clockwork Orange which someone has already mentioned. It's a Michel Transcriptor. Personally I would have used the Michel Gyrodec, much prettier, but maybe that one wasn't around then.
As good as it gets with jack Nicholson has in the opening scenes a nice Mcintosh system in his apartment. Also song o' the day - solid air by John Martyn.
Song of the day: stuck with you -huey Lewis and the news
TV but House had a Sota that was a joy.
The record player in Rob Zombies’ Lords Of Salem is pretty important to the plot. And The Gate has a pretty important turntable too (backmasking....LOL)
Lara Croft had a great turntable with a thick acrylic(?) platter in the first Tomb raider film. She did her aerial acrobatics as the classical music played.
There is movie of Robert Redford, named Indecent Proposal - 1993. Where he plays a very decent turntable named VPI TNT.
Can you please talk about the record player scene in Zoolander I've always wanted to know what theyre using
