Speaker going lower in volume them coming back. Recently had that happen on one of my systems. Realized it was because there was some dirt build up on the input knob of the selector switch (you know, where you choose phono, Aux, tape1, tape 2, etc). I sprayed some deoxit behind the knob, turned it back and forth 8 or 9 times...boom...problem solved.

Just an icelander saying hello. Love your videos! I work at a history museum so I can confirm that the Mo Fi sleeves are pretty much the best there are. They are made of Polyethylene which is an acid free material. It doesn`t only keep dust away, it also significantly slows down the natural deterioration of the record and makes it last much longer.

Love this!! I've been wanting to get a record player for years as I've been given lots of vinyl from the industry I work in and some fantastic finds at markets. Just ordered my first setup which will be a Sony PS-LX310BT, Edifier 1700BT speakers, Microsoft Surface Pro, and a Fiio type c DAC. I think this is a good entry-level setup, but I'm sad I won't be able to upgrade my stylus properly. One day I'd like to get a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, KEF LS50, probably keep a tablet in the mix or a Cambridge Streamer.

I had a similar skipping issue with the Outlaws album “Playin’ To Win”. Every copy I ever had on vinyl skipped all the way through “Take It Anyway You Want It”, the opening track. Turns out, it was a pressing defect in which the metal part for Side 1 was damaged for that song.

Once I had gotten back into vinyl, stand up and comedy was something I got into in a big way. Eddie murphy’s raw/delirious was why. He mentions Richard prior albums getting him in to comedy, and then I spotted The Goodies and Nothe the Nine o’clock News albums in local thrift stores. The latter there being Monty python precursor and later British comedy inspired by. It’s a different experience of comedy but a wonderful slice of a different period of comedy.

Hey Jarrett I live in Texas as well in a small town just outside of Fort Worth. I use a 1956 rek-o-kut rondine transcription turntable fitted with a 16 inch broadcast tonearm . I have both a stanton 500 cartridge with a .7 mil stylus for stereo recordings, a 1 mil. For mono recordings and a 3 mil for 78 discs . I also have a re-equalizer for pre riaa recordings and a de -hisser .I use Mackie hr-24 studio monitor speakers I think my phono pre amp is a studio art dj pre so yeah that is my setup for vinyl.

Hi, great video as usual. I've not finished watching it yet, but, I wanted to comment on your saying be patient and wait for the repressing of an album if the original pressing is too expensive. I have a coveted John Mayall with Eric Clapton album, both in its 1966 first pressing and in a modern pressing. The modern pressing is only worth £27 but the original is worth over £200. The sound of the 1966 version (even with the crackles) is so much better than the repress. It's how Mayall heard it at the time. I Also have Beatles albums that I bought in the '60's (I'm that old) and I prefer the original mix that they have to any modern repressing. It doesn't matter if the original recording was made in the last 20-30 years when everything has become digital and compressed....but if you are collecting 1960's-80's artists and records that were recorded before digital recording then go for the original recording rather than the repress. That's why I buy stuff at record fairs. To get the original. x

I do see a CD format come back in the near future. I think Records by Billy Joel and Phil Collins make for excellent frisbees.

So glad I found your channel! I’m guilty, I unfortunately bought my first suitcase Victrola record player… moments after researching I knew I was going to ruin my brand new Pornography LP by The Cure on vinyl. I immediately took that Victrola suitcase vinyl player back for a refund! I got my money back and purchased the Fluance RT85n with a Pre-amp that Fluance sells as well. I was freaking out over my set up so far since I didn’t want to drop some more money on a receiver then I found out I actually had Active two way speakers that have been in the box collecting dust in the corner of my room. These Active speakers are the Pioneer DJ DM-40 Watt. I’m so excited for my RT85n and to set it up! I even got a cleaning kit for my future records and some storage bins I bought as well! The only thing it looks like I need are those Mofi Inner sleeves to protect my records completely when stored away until my next time using them

At 23:10 You say Cassettes are not selling as much. Well Jarrett, Here In the UK we sell about 100 to 200 a day. Mostly Comps, against artists. We picked up about 20,000 of them back In the early 90's when they did start to loose favor. We are soooooooooo glad we hung on to them. As for coloured vinyl against Black, Well over time the Coloured vinyl starts to go Hard, and cracks easily, I am talking mostly about Singles though. Great Video keep em' comin'

Great advice. I only buy stuff that I liked every single song and will play multiple times. One question, What plastic covers do you use for larger double/triple albums? For instance I have a few Iron Maiden albums that come with 3 records. They barely fit in a plastic sleeve if I stretch it a little.

Great video! The only thing you're off about in my opinion and experience is the sound quality of cassettes. Recording onto a Nakamichi Dragon lets say, which has a frequency response of 20-22k (better than virtually any CD player) or similar high-end deck from a very good analog source would most likely run circles around most if not all moderately priced turntable set-ups including your Fluance/Ortofon combo and my own set-up as well (No offense) The recording on a properly calibrated Nak are very difficult to distinguish from whatever source one records from. This means if you record from something like a technics SL-1000R and appropriate cartridge im confident that the Tape recording made on a Dragon will outperform any record played directly on any lesser turntable. i would actually recommend people buy a quality cassette deck, so they record their rare or frequently used vinyl on it. This will help prevent wear or damage to their records.

I recently picked up the Phoenix cleaning spray from Sleeve City, and it has a small amount of alcohol, 4% believe. Would that damage my vinyl? I trust their other products, as I've been using their inner and outer sleeves for a while with no issues, but I'm not sure on this one.

Hi! I’m planning to get a vinyl player as a gift and I’ve been seeing your recommendations (almost but one of those suitcases 😅), however it can get pricey to buy one and also buy the amplifiers… Are there any recommended ones that come with Bluetooth? Since the person getting the gift has a very good Speaker. And I’d love to give them the player and some vinyls.

Any ideas on a suitable replacement for an ageing Shure M55E cartridge? It’s to fit a Thorens TD-165, with the original arm?

I'm a little late with questions, but, I recently picked up an Audio Technica LP-GO from Walmart. To me, it seems pretty similar to the LP 60, in terms of quality and looks. I was just wondering about your thoughts, if you've had any experience with the LP-GO. (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called)

dont get me wrong, the Audio Technica LP120 is awesome, but does anyone know why the tone arm was designed NOT to return automatically to its rest position when the record has finished ?

Is there any advice for cleaning the stylus? The stylus keeps collecting lint and I use tweezers to gently pull off the lint without physically touching the needle

If I want to record my records to my computer, should I send the output of my record player into the normal set of equipment and have the computer or audio interface at the end of the chain where my speakers would be or can I just run it with my turntable directly plugged into the interface with the internal preamp turned on?

What do you think of buying brand new records online from websites (Amazon etc.) compared to going to record stores and looking through what they have, even if they are second hand quality?

I would that either the REVOX B975 or the MARANTZ TT143 are worth but the lid must be down on the MARANTZ TT143 or it won't play.

Which cartridge should I buy moving coil ceramic or moving magnet because I am building my record player from the beginning to finish

  • @acerbt

    @acerbt

    2 жыл бұрын

Ceramic cartridges tend to track harder and don't have the amount of frequency response as a magnetic. I'd go for a magnetic cartridge because it's required tracking force is less, leading to longer lasting records, and the better quality that it will provide.
