    I never listen to the comparison samples but do listen to the commentary. The concise reviews and analysis is appreciated in a world of hype men and shills. Would love to see you build some of the DIY kits that are available. Even if you are no good at woodworking & fabrication the journey would be fun to watch.

    Thanks Oluv! Can you please let us know what volume level you typically set the stockwell II knob and does the sound differ if the volume knob on the speaker is moved and only adjusted via phone? Basically, is there a sweet spot for the volume knob on the speaker?

    Good morning, Oluv! Thanks for your videos on the Stockwell II - this is surely an item I intend to listen to myself and, quite possibly, buy it. By the way, what's your opinion on Jarre speakers? The ones in the shape of a bulldog. They look cool, but some say the sound isn't worth it. Being an English teacher, I'd like to get the smallest one (AeroBull Nano) just for fun and play some audio tasks for my students on it.

    Why did the people making the marshall stockwell 2 actually make it sound so good? I mean so many companies aren't really trying to improve on sound. Example the new Bose, Sony bt speakers. Why did Marshall do this?

    I have a request: review the Bose Sounddock. The original version or the Series 2, not the Portable which is the same and I think doesn't sound as good. I like the Sounddock, it isn't accurate but I think it's an interesting sound and it looks nice. I'd be curious to see measurements of it and how you think it compares to other speakers. (The original and Series II sound the same as each other. The Series 3 looks the exact same as the 2 except with a new Lightning connector, so I think it should also sound the same, but I'm not sure. The Sounddock Portable has different drivers and definitely sounds different.)

    Can Stockwell II be turned on remotely (I think it is called Bluetooth-LE) i.e. without walking to the speaker and touching it all? Also, if the volume control on Stockwell II, as it has physical knob is not synced to the device at all - is that right?

  • @darrencoates

    @darrencoates

    ARKADIUSZ MIKINA I bought one. It’s a physical on/off/volume button. In that way, thus unit is quite old school - you can’t change track or anything like that using the speaker. Obviously you can adjust volume but no, you’re right, it’s not synced to the device as such.

    I recently got to hear both of these speakers, the full line of Marshall and Bose Bluetooth portables. The Marshall’s out preformed the Bose in every model. Plus, having the ability to customize the sound on the speaker was an added bonus. I personal felt the Marshalls were truer to the sound and had a better depth of sound. The Bose are still a good speaker, but there is now better to be had.

    I find the Bose too bass heavy, preferring the open more balanced sound of the Stockwell II. I don’t use my Bose for any sort of listening at home since the bass starts to feel oppressive (for me anyway) after awhile. However, my Bose still gets a lot of daily use due to the environment it is mainly used in. I work in an operating theatre which has a fair bit of background noise and obviously, no one sits in front of the speaker to listen to music. It is usually placed in a distant corner of the operating room and from that distance, a higher bass level is needed in order to be heard. All the well balanced speakers sound tinny in the same environment. But at home, it stays in the work bag.

    If it weren't for the reverb it probably would sound better. I only have the Tribit, compared via the switcher and for my taste the MaxSoundPlus gets the job done for a fraction of the price. But if your focus doesn't lay on exact beats etc. and more on an open, cathedral-like sound the Marshall is the way to go.

    Nach deinen ersten Videos zum Stockwell 2 war ich eigentlich felsenfest davon überzeugt, dass er ein Must-Have ist. Aber mittlerweile find ich das Reverb doch ein wenig nervig. Nicht alle Tracks harmonieren damit, wie es mir scheint. Gerade Electrotracks verlieren ihre durch Mischung und Mastering verliehene Charakteristik doch erheblich. Ein zackiger, dunkler Song klingt dann plötzlich viel tranciger in meinen Ohren als er soll, seine Stimmung wird dadurch nicht unerheblich beeinträchtigt. Wäre der Komponist der Meinung gewesen, dass es noch Reverb braucht, hätte er es draufgepackt. Es ist gerade ein ähnlicher Aha-Effekt wie damals, als ich die psychoakustischen Tricks vom Bose Soundlink durchschaut hatte und plötzlich kein Track mehr richtig überzeugend klang. Aber ich denke, da kommen noch mehr Videos zum Stockwell 2, da er dir anscheinend richtig Freude bereitet :) Und dann kann ich mich ja immer noch entscheiden. Schön, dass du uns erhalten bleibst.

    Bollocks, I heard the Soundlink 2 and more recently the Mini. Both sounded wonderful, on another level compared to my Charge. Not boomy or compressed at all, boomy is a characteristic of badly tuned ported speakers which the Soundlink is not. Maybe if you messed with the weights on the radiator. Very obviously biased review. In USA its law to say if youve been sponsored by the manufacturer of whatever youre reviewing, no such law in Finland? Have you been sponsored by Marshall?

    Flat and realistic are like terms regarding accuracy, which the Bose is more skewed in frequency response. It's fine to have preference of course though. The Bose while less accurate may please some with it's elevated upper midbass and rich lower mids.
