I bought a roadster 2 years ago for transportation. It's awesome. I get around the city in comfortable fashion on the trails, the sidewalk, the bike lanes, and on the street. I hop curbs and ride through city traffic with ease where ever I want to go. For 7,000 you get a combination of 39mph top speed, smooth ride, high build quality (battery and frame), and above average range. I didn't find that combination in many other e-bikes. I bought a rack this year and now I can run errands. If you're looking for fun and performance to maneuver around city, this might be the way to go. Thanks EBR for the review.

Hi The4Heck I can understand your concern. For what it's worth, nobody said anything to me during the test rides. There are more ebikes than ever on paths and streets now, and the fat tire models make a lot more noise. I feel like you wouldn't have a problem in most places I've been (medium and large cities in the US and Canada).

Thanks Jay! It's amazing how much variety there is in the space, and I love to see how the bikes are refined over the years. This one was really a blast to zip around on, and I admire the artistic quality of it.

I truly love the cafe styling. Nice bike. I've stopped complaining about ebike prices because there's something for everyone out there now. I actually bought a refurb Jetson Bolt Pro for $250 USD as a "last mile" bike just recently. It's actually a fun little scoot!

Wow, that's a great price. I had fun covering that bike recently but got a lot of flack for saying it costs $600 (that's their MSRP) and being picky about the cheaper parts. It was fun to zip around on, I'm glad it's working well for you Tom :D

This is what the Harley-Davidson Serial one should have looked like. With the single speed wouldn't it make more sense to use a belt drive? Can it be converted?

A couple of people have mentioned belt drive, I'm not really sure. I agree that this would be a perfect Harley electric bike. I'm surprised they didn't try to buy Vintage or co-brand.

I agree, their bikes look awesome. I'm going to cover the new Tracker Cruiser model next. It has front and rear fenders that are skirted, and it comes in cream or graphite blue colors.

Do you know if the 80% charge setting still balances the cells? I ask because I have heard most battery management systems don't balance until the cells are somewhere around 98~%

A little remark : ebike price seem to get out of control so many model models are now costing the price of a small car, or a brand new 125 cm3 scooter using 1.5 liter of gazoline for 100 km.A few years ago yoou could get a small urban car (still able to drive 800 km at 130kmh/h with 4 people) for about 6-7000 euros with the government grant. Of course there are some new technologies but the "jamais content"won a famous race bask in 20s of the previous century, and controller sensor are just basic electronics. Anyway your video are nice and informative. Could you contatc Orbea and see if they can send you some of the Orbea Kennen, it is there new serie of trekking/urban bikes with central motor (it must be yamaha). They look very nice of their web site (even if the price is sort of crazy ...)

Wow, 7k for a direct drive hub, single speed, high volt motor with plenty of performance and choked to 20mph; but you need to pay even more to unlock the speed limit.... On a positive (as the world is neg enough) I do love that thru-axle inverted front fork and tires. But I know a sub 2k bike (ahem Himiway) that won't beat that on acceleration, but code 0510 unlocks the settings for you to achieve a solid 28mph. No I don't own either, but the weird shape, not easily removed battery, and the kickstand... It's just not a competitive choice, especially if you have 7k to spend.

Is that 40 mph available throttle only in race mode?

I wasn't able to test it out, but I think it's 40mph top speed pedal assist and throttle. Basically, what you'd get in assist level 5. You can only get that higher speed by purchasing the race key for $150, otherwise it comes specced for your geography, like 500w nominal 20mph top speed for Canada or 750w nominal 20mph top speed for the United States and maybe 250w nominal 25km/h top speed for United Kingdom.

I feel you on that... lol! It can be a little uncomfortable to take out such nice bikes for reviews. I'm always trying to be super careful with them ;)

I like the bike, one thing they could do is add cruise control maybe with some pre programmable settings, it's given me an idea for my next kit Ebike.

Interesting, I saw a lot of people mention that feature when I covered the Jetson Bolt Pro recently, I forgot to show how it worked. It's a feature I rarely see, but it can be useful for long rides!

7k for a bike when you can get a 4k surron but I do hope the under 2k gets better....I enjoy my bbso2b with 60v for 1.3k lol

Because I might need to cross a street or an intersection quickly, I would prefer to have a throttle that can produce full power regardless of the assist level setting. P.S. don't hand your camera to a stranger in the Bay area. LOL

Haha, yeah I think about that each time! Thankfully, things usually work out okay, and people are friendly. I used to live in Daly City and work in SF... got stuff thrown at me on the way to work occasionally when I'd take the BART. Anyway, I agree that full throttle power is nice to have... especially since it's a variable speed lever.

Anyone in Vancouver also owns a 72V scrambler? I'm thinking of buying a new one but want to see and feel what it's like... Reach out to me? Thanks!

Nice bike but the price is out of my range . I know the fake motor is part of the design but looks funny to me being so big . I do like the rear mudguard design , would suit my bike :-)

@@ElectricBikeReview Sorry i don't have a name brand e-bike , i converted my old bike to a TDR 26inch 36v 250W rear hub motor , you probably don't know that brand being in Canada . I've had it for 2 years (5,000km) and it's still going strong . Cost me $500aud .Good enough for me and i can get 50kms out of it . Thanks for all your reviews Court . I might get a NCM Moscow ebike next as i tend to be on the cheaper side .

I found that the weight actually improves the comfort on these bikes. It reduces vibration because the frame has some inertia of its own. I was able to lift it, and I could haul it on my platform rack with an 1-1/4" hitch, but it would be nice if the battery could be taken off for easier charging and lighter weight on service and transport. It's nice that the bike can also support heavier riders, up to 300lbs total.

Yes, 81 pounds does sound like a lot …. but the more you talk about it, and its aesthetic, mega power output, and beefy build … not really all that crazy, more like an especially light pseudo-scooter……. Wait, SPEED CHIP !? 40mph? Okay, I dig it actually. 💪🏻⭐️

Yeah, it didn't feel so heavy when I lifted it. The handling was great, and it's nice to have a sturdy build when going faster. There are some trade-offs with this bike for sure, but they aren't thoughtless, it does what it does very well.

$7k is too much plus shipping. Not to mention if you wanna add racks or bags thats another hundred bucks. This company is very expensive. Everything can add up to 12k or more depending on what you need.

Yeah, it is a more expensive product, especially with the accessories, shipping, and taxes all in.

My bike has 285nm of torque total with my 3 motor. It's 210lbs foot of torque.

I always wonder why bike manufactures/brands cheap out when it comes to bike pedals!? And considering it's a $7000 bike! lol

Perhaps it was more of a style choice in this case. Those pedals didn't seem cheap to me, just not as functional as I'd like since they are kind of slim.

Court, I think that reviews like this is a slippery slope. There's a lot of concerns I have with e-bikes like this; -The battery at the end of it's life. Can you buy a new one? How much will it cost? Can you recycle it? How do you dispose of it? At least with an e-bike with a Bosch or Yamaha system you can find a new battery replacement. -The possible speed kit option. You would have to be naive to expect that people would get the speed kit and not use it everywhere. Having e-bikes with that kind of speed invites abuse. Irresponsible e-bike riders gives e-bikes a poor reputation. Therefore, all e-bikes will be less welcomed in more places. I believe that there are too many of these novelty that bikes possible hurt the e-bike movement. The e-bike industry needs to develop standardized protocols. Court, I'm a long time fan of your work. But, promoting bikes like this is a poor idea.

I feel you on the concerns. The company has been owner operated since inception and they do a lot of upgrades and repairs... even custom paint and mixed builds for people who want it. I think the battery could be re-packed by FTH or Vintage themselves. It seems like they are more attentive than a lot of companies and more open source with their simplified hardware. The display hasn't changed, the motor is different inside but they use the same supplier as three years ago. II don't see it as e-waste, and the novelty could attract people who would otherwise skip ebikes. The company has good integrity from what I've seen and the performance was really outstanding.

@@ElectricBikeReview Hi Court and thanks for your fast reply. I have great respect for all that you have done over there years. I often visit your KZread channel and website to research e-bikes. If I was to purchase a Vintage Electric 72 Volt Scrambler and have it sent to an address in the the US. What happens when I wear the battery down? You had mentioned that the battery is not removable, therefore I would guess that I would order a new battery. Find a 3rd party knowable bike mechanic to remove the battery and have him install the new battery? Or would I have to send the bike back to the manufacture and have it sent back to me? Either way sounds a bit impractical and expensive. In contrast, I know that I can easily get replacement batteries for Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, Brose and Rad Bikes. Changing the battery on those bikes takes seconds and requires no tools, just a turn of a key. The sellers of the Vintage Electric 72 Volt Scrambler are trying to fly under the radar of detection. If you want to make a bike, that in reality is a motorcycle own up to it. Once people will get the ultra speed kit, they will use it where they please. More speed requires more safety. However there is no blinkers, no regulated taillights, no rear shocks to handle the extra speed. Are the front shock that good to handle that kind of speed over years of use, like a motorcycle would be? There is a lot of innovated stuff coming to market, but much of it is half baked engineering. A lot of politicians know very little of e-bikes. If their first e-bike impressions are bad, they may be turned off for a long time. Irresponsible bike manufactures potentially creates an uphill battle for the rest of the industry.

You do understand the meaning of the word "vintage"?

I guess not, I assumed it meant classic... like an original thing that inspired others and has been preserved. Open to feedback if you can help clarify. By the way, I'm just reviewing the bike, I don't design or sell these :)

No gears, small lights, cheap pedals, no racks, no rear suspension, 160mm rotor size on the rears!! What are they thinking, put 203 is on there with a 4 piston caliper, not worth the money, buy a Juiced hyper scrambler 2! 10000 x better than this bike.
