Vintage Earthmoving, life sized TONKA's - Best of the West 2017

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Found a bunch of footage from 2017 when I was in California with Grandpa at the Best of the West show at the Santa Margarita ranch. Lots of really cool stuff, and great people. I would encourage anyone who likes seeing old iron in action to check this show out.
Here is the link to the site where you can keep up to date with the show details for 2023. It will be in May.

Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed this footage that I found as a filler while I am down in Tucson at the Cat proving grounds. Catch you on the next one, don't forget I am Ironman.

Hi, Nathan. Thanks for the memories. I helped put that show together and spent a fair bit of it in the D9H chasing scrapers and dirt. I have helped put together and run all the shows at Best Of The West, 2010, then 2015 through 2019, then 2022 and this year - all good fun. Thanks again. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi, @@ironman3406. I have already been 'perving' on some more of your content, REALLY enjoyed the video of the Raygo Giant grader. I operated an O&K G350 grader for a while back in DowNunda, one of 34 built. That was a beast with 380 HP, 42 long tons and a 20 foot blade. That Raygo has WAY more grunt. BTW, those old gear controlled Cat graders do not hafta be 'knuckle-busters'. There izza 'ar-tickle' in the tech. library of ACMOC about adjusting them to make them more user friendly. I'll likely keep on helping with that show as long as Uncle Sam will let me back here to do it. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Brings back good memories of 1973 when I was leveling fields in So. Calif. Using old DW10's with a custom scrappers on the back, pushed with a D8 or D9. I had the opportunity do run them all that year until they finished their jobs. I got tired of seasonal work and then went into the Air Force. Such is life.

If memory serves me correct the rear unit is all control with air solenoids, so if the lines were cut the rear would just be there for the ride I think. Thanks for watching - Peterson Cat built these in house for pushing the big 660/666 scrapers and the big 651’s/57’s.

Nathan, earlier today I stumbled across a channel which featured a video on Spy Hill, Saskatchewan so I saw a little scenery and history of your area. Also seeing I live right on a main highway a couple people happened to stop in, I gave the “nickel tour” to one. The other gentleman had recently purchased 2 Sixty’s so we talked a bit. I told him about your channel and that you’re doing a series on one. I checked and Spy Hill is approximately 900 miles from me, I would consider traveling that far for that pcu from your sixty depending on price if you want to sell it.

I had no idea that there was anything about Spy Hill on KZread other than what I’ve mentioned haha I’ll have to go searching. I’ll have a chat with grandpa when he is back from their winter stay in Phoenix, to see what we think we might sell it for, I get down into Minnesota once in a while too, so there could be the chance of meeting up

What is the story on the one big cat with the swamp pads, stretched out longer, and a Mary Ann tramp stamp on its fuel tank? Starts after the Best crawlers segment 12:40-ish. It looks familiar but no idea why.

That is one of the purpose built D8’s that was sent to explore Antarctica, they pulled big snow trains all over the winter wonderland lol - there are some that never made it off the continent as they fell into big crevices etc. they needed the wide pads and extended track to float in the snow. they all had unique names like this one Mary Ann. Thanks for watching.

@@ironman3406That is where I seen it, or one similar anyhow. Was curious what Bigfoot 5 has on it. The tires were from LeTourneau when they built a land train to haul goods over the frozen tundra. During that was looking at other ideas used to cover the same purpose. That is where Mary Ann and siblings came into mind. Thanks for the recollection of those details ironman.
