Vintage Bonanza! Amazing Antiques & Collectible Surprises

Cape Girardeau, Missouri's old downtown is much changed and improved since we've been here! Renovated storefronts with more antique shops are springing up here, and today we set our sights on the biggest one in town, Pastimes Antiques & Mall. We did well shopping here 20 years ago, let's see if the town's improvements extend to their collectible offerings.
We're struck by the extent of certain collections in this voluminous antique center! One wing is filled with vintage fashion for the local college crowd, while another showcase houses an extensive early 1900s paperweight collection. Behind the fun kitchenware, a great 1960s desk set (so cheap!) and an unusual early Red Wing vase stands the largest antique trench art and militaria collection we might ever see, brought by an Antiques Roadshow appraiser to be sold right here! We get to learn a ton when there's great examples of a category all in one place like this.
Downstairs we go for the 50% bargain basement, where a funky cool jack-o-lantern we'd never seen greets us with a smile! We're smiling too, as flower power pins, faceted dangle earrings, a super clean 1933 World's Fair guide and a neat old Lone Star Beer glass head to the counter. A rather scarce political propoganda sticker book proves to be our best find of the day so far...but we have more of this town's great antique establishments to see (watch for that video, coming soon!).

Hi George and Xeno! I really enjoyed the video. Every time I watch someone in an antique mall its almost like visiting a village. Every booth is filled with the essence if the owner, with their curated wares. Its really amazing.

I have a coconut that was mailed to my father when he was young. He was born in 1915 so it's fairly old! Still has the mailing label thumbtacked to it. 🙂 I also have some bed lamps. I feel so old! ;-)

The Duke and Duchess of York depicted on the commemorative medallion later ascended to the British Throne in 1911 as King George V and Queen Mary. The Yorks were the grandparents of the late Queen Elizabeth II. In 1894, Tower Bridge was opened to great fanfare by the Prince of Wales, the father of the Duke of York, in 1894. Tower Bridge is the iconic bridge spanning the River Thames next to the Tower of London.

Good evening, George! If you ever come across a full-size Ski Country Ivory-billed Woodpecker decanter, let me know. I've been wanting one of those for years. I liked that paperweight with the angels. The chip doesn't bother me too much. Loved that regimental pipe! I like those over-the-bed lamps, but I couldn't use one. My bed is one of the high-backed oak beds. There was quite a number of the trench art pieces that really interested me. The prices on it seemed really reasonable, too. That would be a fun place to shop. Thanks for taking us along!

Every time I see bookshelves of books in these videos I want to so much transport myself and see if I can find any modern art and architecture books. I'd love to see you dig through a collection one of these days even if it were just to look for the more obvious coffee table books.
