On this Vinny Appice Interview: Vinny talks about working with John Lennon, Rick Derringer, Tony Iommi and Vivian Campbell… turning down Ozzy’s solo project and then getting the call to replace Bill Ward in Black Sabbath, just a short time later… the first & last song (30 years later) Vinny played with Ronnie James Dio (it was the same song!). Watching Led Zeppelin open for Vanilla Fudge, reading the Bible, getting Microsoft certified, and loads more really interesting & cool stuff from this drum legend:
Vinny was part of John Lennon’s backing band for John’s last performance. He also played with Rick Derringer (3 LPs) and played with Black Sabbath and Dio throughout his career, on some of both band’s biggest albums

Great interview,Vinny one of the best drummers in the world and a great guy !!! A club in downtown NY called R T Firefly was where my band played its first gig in May,1982,Vinny was in NY to play The Garden on The Mob Rules Tour on the 17th of May.Me being a 21yr old from a small town outside of Pittsburgh,I was a huge fan of Dio,being a drummer, and because of my older brother,we loved and looked up to the Appice brothers.Sitting at the bar that night was Vinny, after my show,he came up to me,shook my hand, gave me a big hug, said, that was fucking great, your a great drummer, love the way you hit the drums, drummers like us have to stick together !!! He brought me to the bar, bought me a beer, gave me backstage passes to the show at the Garden(yes,I still have them)it was one of the most exciting moments of my life !!! The beautiful girl I had fallen in love with from NY,and myself, went to the show ,we got to meet everybody in the band,Dio was one of the nicest people we had ever met,Vinny was so great to me,he changed my life forever,my confidence on the drums and life went to another level. I did not become a rock star like I had dreamed of,but I married the beautiful girl I brought to the show that night,we have two great boys and family you can only dream of.Vinny reached out to me through a family member we both stay in touch with many years ago,we wanted to get to one of the shows they were doing at the time but life got in the way.Although our paths never crossed again,My wife and I will never forget that great night at the garden and how nice everybody was to us.

Great story, thank you for sharing this and congratulations on a great marriage!
So many rock stars can't even drive an automobile and this guy aside from being a great drummer/musician can fix them, build houses and he's a computer engineer? Wow I certainly have a new level of respect for Vinny. Down to earth, no hype, no airs- this is a refreshing and cool interview. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed the interview Hiking with Jonesy, and thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
I used to live in Brazil. The people are so incredibly nice. You guys are right about that. Great interview.
Such a down to earth guy!! Besides being a musical genius and a part of rock and roll history, he is so wonderfully humble. Saw him at Vamp'd club in Vegas a few months ago. Much love to you, Vinnie! THANKS for all your music over the years!
Very interesting, and smart man.
Tremendous drummer. Great interview.

Thanks Jorge K, Rock on! 🎸🙌🏻🔥🎶
Not just the look i meant
The Derringer Reunion Tour in 2008 was awesome ... wish they would make another album together.
I didn't know Joe Rogan did interviews with musicians...
Humble guy, great career, underrated by those who don’t know his musical background but greatly appreciated by those who do. When I watch drum solos by a lot of drummers they play fast but they don’t have swing. The Appice brothers epitomise this skill, any solo they play its musical. They’re like Steve Gadd (and if Gadd had/has a brother who’s a drummer) of metal. Great attitude to life, he’s got no regrets but still willing to learn new life skills. God bless Vinnie wishing you many more years of drumming and joy.
