He was right about that confidence boost. He averaged 25/6/4 and shot 40% from 3 in the season when that dunk contest took place. The next season he had his highest career ppg at 27.

The next season with the highest career PPG was because that Toronto squad was full of seasoned vets who pushed him hard and held him accountable (Charles Oakley, Mark Jackson, Kevin Willis). It had nothing to do with confidence. It's no coincidence after they left that his averages sharply declined. Vince was notorious for only doing the bare minimum with his talents.

Okay, first things first? Vince Carters opinion is worth it's weight in gold because of who he is and anyone who isn't in the NBA doesn't really get a vote. HOWEVER, since I'm a fan? I'll speak on that: Fans don't want to see role players during ALL STAR WEEKEND. It's literally in the name. We want to see the all stars play. Without a couple big names in the Dunk Contest? It will not garner a lot of views. Here's one that people would like to see: Ja Morant, Zach Lavine, Zion Williamson, Aaron Gordon, Anthony Edwards, and finally at the end you can add a wild card.

I agree on that one. As a fan, I want to see the most athletic dunkers doing the contest and actually compete against each other. Make it fierce, make it exciting, I want it to be spicy. The dunk contest has become a joke for a many years now.... Imagine all those said names competing in a dunk contest. Now to that I would tune in. Even with the wild card at the end, yeah! Put one of em in there too. But role players over stars is actually crazy....

Vince will forever be my goat. I was 8 years old when I saw him play courtside at Amway Arena in Orlando, Jason Kidd threw him a lob and he pump fake dunked it behind his head, which was easily above the rim. My dad was so mad, he's a diehard Magic fan, but I was so in awe of Vince that I couldn't even be mad he was demolishing my team.

NBA live 2005 was the best basketball game but most definitely the best dunk contest game as well it was too ahead of its time! No other game could do the dunk contest game modes like they did. Damn those were the good days 😢

Vince’s Dunk Off so amazing because of his first dunk. No ramping up. Started the show with one of the craziest dunks in history - first attempt - and everyone was floored. Most guys start with a safe dunk.

Candice was spot on. Vince made the dunk contest so difficult that dudes don't want to enter. Lavine and Gordon have been the closest but it's still Vinsanity!!!!

If you look at the history of the dunk contest it never really had stars compete in it , it was players who eventually became stars but when they participated they were on the come up . Only exception was probably Jordan and Dominique rematches

Vince to me is the best dunker, he got the creativity, power, hops, and quickness to be great. Most importantly he got so many poster dunks it’s crazy

That’s something that’s missing from today’s game. There used to be more players, like a Vince that in games would take opportunities to show off, show creativity and flair. So many times now, with these bigger name players, you get simple two handed jams… it’s like these guys have no creativity, or are just too afraid to miss. When Vince was playing, those games were special. I used to tape every game he was in on VHS because you knew there would be something memorable. Imagine, Vince did all of that before social media, and he became the talk of the league… imagine now, how big someone could get, but no one steps up.

I was blessed to watch this man play since Freshman at UNC.

After Jordan retired the 2nd time lol I stopped watching basketball for awhile until the 2000 NBA season and seeing VC in the dunk contest got me watching the NBA again.

Zach Levine and A Gordon probably the last two that wowed me.

As far as putting arms in the rim... MJ put his whole arm in the rim in the 88 contest when he started on one side of the paint, flying through the air, back to the basket, ducked his head under the rim while holding the ball up like a waitress holds her tray, and then stuffed it down to his elbow on the other side. One of the nicest dunks of all time.

Greatest dunk contest i ever saw was Levine and Gordon. And Gordon and Jones cause it was amazing dunks and competitive. Vince was the best single performance and it wasnt close

Candace Parker has NO RIGHT to talk about the dunk contest after being apart of some of the most horrible judging EVER. VC didn’t ruin it for future contest participants, he SAVED the event from being cancelled for the future. The participants have to come in with a swagger or confidence that they will win even if they lose it. Show up damn near cocky, just complete the dunk. That’s how Mac McClung won it. Especially this year, the NBA has been disappointing with horrible officiating thus far. Hopefully the dunk and 3-pt contest bring up the spirits of the excitement of the NBA since the trade deadline will have passed. The ASG as of late has been disappointing because the players barely play defense and don’t go at each other like a regular game. They don’t have to play post season basketball but don’t just keep bricking up 3’s and layups either. Again, all MY opinion so…
