Village | Devlog #2 | Road to Vostok

Ойындар

Road to Vostok is a game where there are different zones and individual maps which are based on real-world locations. This episode is an in-depth analysis for one of those maps. This specific map is located in the Area 05 zone and it's called the Village.
This devlog is a behind-the-scenes documentary series for showcasing the current progress and features of the game. I also share some game development tips & tricks that I have learned through these years of making video games.

The structure you've created around this game is just insanity...what you say about spending 10 hours to save you 1000 is true! Once I found out how to use structures in UE4 and to properly think through how to set up mechanics so that they can be used as a template, it makes life a whole lot easier! The tools you've developed will clearly make this game stand out, not only for its visual style they create but for how easy it will be to develop and change elements compared to not having them. Wishing you the best of luck with this game filled with incredible potential, and looking forward to the first demo!

Amazing idea, the only addition I would add to this is a grouping like system for friends to survive together. I would say up to 8 friends could be together in one game, that is what stalker was missing. The more friends who join the harder the areas become. I know how difficult something like this is to achieve, but along side these ideas it would make this game feel complete and fully enjoyable for every type of player. This is my opinion and nothing more. Love the idea and hope it pans well for you.

My jaw dropped when I saw the procedural generation for the color maps, that is such a brilliant alternative to meticulously texturing, modeling and positioning the environment. I love the use of in-person research, it adds so much to the atmosphere as actual people lived their lives here as opposed to other games that just slap generic abandoned structures everywhere. Man, as a backend developer, this kind of content finally sheds light on how a game is made. Like yeah, I could go with more programming-related content, and since I was a kid I've been always looking into the technical limitaitons of the engine, finding patterns in the AI and such, but to SEE the process of creation really adds more to my love for videogames. At the very least, I know I will stuck around here for the content itself, whether the end product is or isn't of my particular taste.

I really like these kind of videos. I think this is a good way to present the game, your thoughts and techniques. Also I think you are really good with explaining and showing stuff I have no clue about and still I understand every step and thought process you have. Also I like how much thought you put into your own workflow. I'll be looking forward for the next devlogs! - a new fan.

You have a unique and interesting style of game dev logs where you manage to make it interesting for both aspiring game developers and for people seemingly interested with the content of your game. I truly believe if you can keep this up throughout the games development cycle you can make it big, good luck.

Just finished watching Dev Vlog 1 and immediately came and watched this one. I knew you were for real when you talked about the detail of the overfilled mailbox (it's those little story telling moments that add up into a rich atmosphere that unfortunately so many triple A games lack today). That's something only a truly invested and passionate developer would mention and I'm really excited to see your commitment to the process. You've got another fan watching from Brooklyn, NY. Keep it up man!

Well, this video format is cool. Seeing you using the map layout to procedurally generate the map terrain is really helpful and inspiring. Definitely gonna think about this when making my games. Keep those coming and have fun on your journey

After randomly coming across some vids in this series, I have decided to come back and watch them all from the beginning. I have noticed your approach to development is absolutely fantastic! I know others have mentioned it already, but you have an amazing approach to these videos and showing your process/reasoning, etc.. unlike any other I have ever seen, I can pick any of your videos so far and I guarantee I will find something it has taught me that I have probably been trying to understand for years! Thanks very much for showing your process/journey, very nice looking work :)

I like this a lot! And yes i personally find the video format great, these videos are a great way to get people excited. Even if the game doesn't turn out as you planned, the dev logs are just great and interesting to watch on their own. So far the game looks like it could be extremely interesting and i hope you will countinue to make it. Good luck on your journey!
