Viewer Tries to Fix Their PS4 Slim - It Didn't Go Well -- Seller says this PS4 was stuck by lightning, then they tried to fix it but only made it worse. I'll start by checking the fuses, since that's what the seller said they tried to fix. Then we'll go from there.

very kind of you to say the previous person didnt make anything worse, they were likely inspired by someone like you that is talented enough to make repairs look easy. I think an important aspect of your channel is to inspire people to learn to fix things. Although dunking on the previous owner might be what many people think to do, it could discourage people who were reached by your enthusiasm and tried to learn to fix something

I heard of a car that was......from the power grid (EV). No visible damage because it was hit a mile away. The dealer couldn't fix it. GM bought it from the owner. GM gave reports to the owner. They never did fix it. But yeah sometimes struck by lightning doesn't mean directly. But if it was, it wouldn't have been that easy to fix. So I too have my doubts.

@@awilliams1701 A lightning strike normally means that it got an overcharge through the wall power outlet, which normally kills the fuse in the PSU and doesn't move on to the rest of the motherboard. It's not very likely that the damage to this console was caused by a lightning strike, but the original owner might have thought it did, because he didn't understand the original fault (the bad drive motor), but found the blown fuse.

Hi Steve! Just wanted to say thanks for showing me how to dismantle a PS4 Pro some years ago when mine became desperate for a deep clean. I was willing to dive straight in, but I've learned it's best to go into these things with half an idea before jumping in with fingers of sausages and fists of ham. Tomorrow I will be deep cleaning my 99th and 100th (!) PS4 model, a number of which I probably wouldn't be at if your video hadn't given me that boost of confidence to dismantle it properly! So thanks for all the entertainment and advocacy for O/O repair! Oh, and helping me pad my wallet out a bit more... 👍🏻

I had a slim since November 2016. Gave it to my son 2 years ago and noticed it didnt have the same speed it once had. Watched your video on taking them apart, gave it a MASSIVE cleaning from all the built up dust. The original thermal paste was hardly even there. I got the 2nd most expensive kind at bestbuy and added about the same amount as you do. Put it back together (of course with a few extra screws left over) and it runs as good as it did when I bought it. Nicely cleaned, quiet, and smooth.

Is there a reason for aligning the ribbon cable back up as close as possible aside from ensuring it can reach the other connector?

What’s your opinion on replacing thermal pads? It looked like most were missing. I’d be very worried about overheating the chips missing thermal pads but maybe I’m just crazy.

I always make sure they're in place. Sometimes I don't show it on camera but yes, I think they're super important.

you do it every time you take the cooler off. it isnt always needed from a temp standpoint, but removing the cooler tends to tear them, then they dont go back on so well and probly wont cool great either. they're cheap enough to add to the already cheap thermal paste purchase

Everytime I tear down one I fit new (better quality) ones by default at rebuild, but then I charge people a few quid, so it sounds like they're getting more for their money. (plus you can guarantee one or two will tear, or get lost)

Here's a good question for you... Is there a second - inside the unit - place where the serial number can be found?

A quick question: I have been trying to find a spray you used to use all the time on controller joysticks, but I can't find it in your store and I can't recall what its called... Can you please point me in the right direction? I have a Xbox series x controller with sticks freezing up and not returning to center... Thank you!

Just a quick question. I have a launch PS5 and the disc drive will not read any discs. I am right in thinking the laser is probably burnt out and needs replacing? I am in the UK and not sure where to get a new laser.
