Vietnam War Trench Art Lighter Restoration & Repair
I was sent this trench art lighter from Vietnam for restoration. It's made in early 70's . It's been somewhat oxidized but some parts have stayed in pretty good shape.
I started the restoration by disassembling the lighter. During the disassembly the screw holding the body together broke because it was so badly rusted. This was no major issues because it was easy to replace it. This time I chose to use rust remover to remove the oxidation and rust from the parts, other than the lighters tank. The tank contained sort of porous material to hold the gas so I didn't want to fill it with rust remover but I sandblasted the rusty areas of it. Then I sanded it up to 2000 grits.
The links lost their blueing so I needed to re-blue them. I heated the links with a torch and dropped those in oil. I used oil intended for chain saw chain but it doesn't really matter.
The other parts were pretty much ready to be polished and then nickel plated from the rust remover. Here is my nickel plating tutorial for more information on the process: • How to make simple DIY...
A free way to support my channel is access amazon/ebay to do your regular shopping through these links. I will get a small fee from each product bought on amazon after clicking these links, whether it was the linked product or a different one.

This is just a little tip if you don't know. If you boil any steel parts that have been blued before you can actually convert the rust on them back into the original bluing on the gun. After you boil it you just brush off the parts with very fine steel wool or a fine wheel it will reveal the original bluing. Saving you from the hassle of having re blue it or polish it to kingdom come! Love you're vids and i hope you can put this information to good use in the future!

One quick tip: when plating with nickel it usually coats better if you keep the piece in movement while plating. Just slow moves helps a lot for the nickel to cover the hole surface and give it a more uniform look. And great work with this, it's really an art! You've got another subscriber!

Regarding that lighter not fitting in a pocket, it is a table lighter from an era where a proper host would have a nice lighter and ash tray on the living room table for the use of a guest...even if nobody in the household smoked. It was also common to have a fancy cigarette box on the table as well, just in case a guest had a sudden urge to smoke but did not have a cigarette. Ours were a real dark amber cut glass. The ashtray was almost the size of a dinner plate. They lived on the coffee table with two solid brass candlesticks and the illustrated white leather-bound "family" Bible. Links most likely had a blued finish, easily restored with a "cold blue" kit available at any gun store.
What do you think the odds are that it is now more pristine than when it was made?

Have you ever considered we are “all dead” in some deep underground chamber, and that this whole place is a STAGE “for a reason” cause we can not Change the outcome in a SIMULATION that is to be a lesson “of what happened” someplace` somewhere so long and “ancient” that to be born here is a Terrifying Fate??? If you were to research the “many ways” people pass their time, you would find that FAKE SPACE is but one illusion and “delusion” in this PURGATORIUM that is a Recreation of a time and place where people “no longer cared” to THINK FOR THEMSELVES, and as we watch the Whole Wide World be put on LOCK DOWN for a lie…., we also know that “many people” are gone, and once this Global Reset is over, even fewer people “will remain” in all lands “of and for” OUR WORLD REPUBLIC CONSTITUTION Coalition…, and yes, You have every right to FEAR and live in “Trepidation” of the 4 Horse Men of the Apocalypse just as you have “every right” too see that Q is one of them Horse Men…. Moreover, the Q-Anon “were always” FREE MASON Lodge Member bragging, not REVEALING the Secrets of this Occultist “PizzaGATE” Satanic RELIGION, and they are the TROJAN HORSE of the “New World Order” as no one refutes MARTIAL LAW, or Quarantine, or PROJECT BLUE BEAM where Holographic Machines will “make the many” think Outer Space is Real when the MOON has her “own light source” just as The Sun in our FLAT EARTH Reality… The WAL-MARTS now have “a person” counting you as you walk in….., and the WALMARTS are now set up like Death Camps where “you are forced” to Walk in ONE DOOR, and all other DOORS and EXIT are locked and “Barricaded” just as JADE HELM 15 goes on… No one talks about them WEATHER WEAPON Fires “in Australia” no more…..., but we know the World is coming undone as “no one is able” to Turn off The EDISON Machine of Forced Technology, and no matter the person be it a 4 Star General of “The U.S. Military” to we the nonmason CITIZENS of our Nations, none can STOP what is unfolding.?.?.?.?.? What has happened before, will happen again “when you” are Trapped in a DE-JA-VU Oraborus Curse……., and if your dreams seem even more Vivid, then you are witnessing the many variations “of Attempts” too fulfill the BOOK OF REVEALING as have many others before you, and yet, at this time, we see DEPOPULATION is becoming “Critical” and Machines will replace ALL LIFE in the end of this “Waking Dream” we all share…. You see, I am NOT a Prophet, I am The Oracle for the END OF THIS AGE “and this” TIME LINE connected to The Source of All Creation and All Destruction…….., and you have made “your choice” to do nothing, but let your Nations Police and Military “be used” against you, and round you up, and take you away, and make you SLAVES “to these” FREE MASON Lodges for all time, and in that, you can not “blame me” for your Decisions… Therefore, as Christ Jesus Returned……..., the TESTAMENT Still Stands, My Kingdom “is not” of This World, and you must “look into” your own inner thoughts, and inner Voices, and Commune with “Your Symbiots” too REFLECT on the life you have lived, what you have done for others, and what will “you do now” when the GREYS hunt you, and the “Knock Knocks” come to take you away, and Torture, and Rape you to death “just as” was done to I Christ Jesus on that Cross….. The rust actually looked quite artistic at the beginning lol. Great restoration. Love your channel!
Wonderful restoration work. I’m sure you’ve given veteran service men some nostalgic memories, and a smile at how well you’ve restored the lighter. New subscriber here from Hobart Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺

true the copper and links could have been left alone or with minimal cleaning but everything else was in desperate need of some work, incidentally i have no idea what kind of lighter that is but ive seen them everywhere often at the core of things like this and ive never heard anything about its type before
While in Vietnam I made several ashtrays using linked spent M60 ammo and a spent round from my M79. Worked well enough but was a bit small
Very ingenious lighter... Great Restoration... 👍
A memorial memento to all those who died, on all sides. Lest we forget. Thank you.
