Vichy France almost immediately encountered British incursions, to which it responded in similar fashion, using its own naval and air forces. While the navy suffered serious losses, combat in the air came with mixed results - until Operation Torch and the occupation of Southern France ended all hopes for a pro-Axis French revival.
