    I really appreciate your efforts to get the latest info on vibration plates to all your viewers! I was a bit disappointed that Dr. Conviser didn't use the opportunity to share research based facts. He started to sound more like a salesman, referring people to Powerplate's website. You asked him a very specific question (which is probably the one question many of us want an answer to) and he shied away from a direct answer. Too bad, but I know you are determined to get the answers, Dr. Doug, so I'll look forward to your next video.

    Thank you for this interview. Really well conducted with a great guest. Love that the speaker was able to explain the effects on the muscles and the fact that the LOWER settings are the range to be used. That’s always been my concern with vibration machines and reliance on the user to regulate the machine. Clearly, vibration is a tool when used well, can help people on the health journey. I will be interested to follow up with his study references. Dr Rubin’s work was about how vibration affects the cells that influence bone change, while this guest’s work is about how to harness vibration for exercising well. I’ve learnt a lot about both aspects from qualified and experienced people. Thanks again for this coverage of the topic. Looking forward to Part 3.

    @@Dr_DougLucas about a year ago I purchased the lifepro wavermini . Still working great and Joel from lifepro is always available for advice etc. it is 23.7 inches long and I can move it about throughout my house. I also have a peloton and pro rebounder, x3 system and a rowing machine so it isn’t the only thing I use for physical activity. I find it great for balance exercises. It is a sad state they our nation does not offer a WellCare system that could make these things affordable to everyone. This business of being a for profit system is shameful. My brother recently went through a horrible experience due to negligence from the hospital he went to for horrific back pain. The emergency room sent him to a back surgeon who wanted to preform back surgery. The surgeon sent him to physical therapy for a few weeks. One night he was in so much pain he was biting a pencil laying on the floor. His wife took him to another emergency room that was not overwhelmed with patients. There they did ultrasound and other tests and found that he has 4 kidney stones the size of golf balls. He almost damaged his kidneys. I worked at SBU and managed the biomedical research department for over 34 years. When you think something doesn’t add up, ask questions and remember, it is OK to fire the doctor and get another. It is your health, take responsibility for it.

    Thank you for this informative video. When I discussed vibration therapy with my doc, he hadn't heard of it before. He said that any therapy must have clinical trials that show decreased fall and/or fracture rate, not just bone density/quality changes, due to that therapy. Would you say there is enough quality research showing reduced fall/fracture rates in order to recommend the expense of vibration therapy?

  • @Dr_DougLucas

    @Dr_DougLucas

    Doctors are funny. No study will be done on a large enough scale or for long enough to show reduced fracture rates. The event is too rare to see in a smaller study. I hear this often from doctors and subscribers. They want to wait for the large scale placebo controlled trial before buying. They will have to keep waiting while my patients and myself are vibrating away improving our bone density. We have to use the evidence we have. No one will fund a several hundred million dollar study of this scale. Not enough money to be made.

    Thanks for this honest answer. I often find that when it comes to supplements, herbs, or any therapy that cannot be monetized sufficiently to justify costly clinical trials, doctors want the above mentioned studies, double blind placebo large scale. But when it comes to pharmaceuticals, promising small studies over a short period of time (while ignoring the data of those pesky side effects) are often enough for them to rx to their guinea pig patients. I just wish VT were a wee bit cheaper. I guess an alternative way to look at this is at best VT it can stave off further bone loss. No small feat. At worse it may be a waste of $$$ and a small waste of time. The same cannot be said of the best/worse case scenarios from pharmaceuticals.

(30hz, Low setting, knees always flexed ,60 seconds on 60 seconds off for a total of 15 minutes of vibrating using different positions/movements). I am wondering if one could hedge their bet a bit by standing on the platform using the foam pad (or perhaps 2 pads) which appears to attenuate the force?

    Hi there! Which device did you buy? Ultimately, you’ll have to ask your surgeon. The Marodyne device is much more subtle than the PowerPlate device and delivers less force than walking. You’ll have to run it by your surgeon and likely educate him on the features of the device.

    When one expert disagrees with another by saying he can't reproduce the results (8:48 he talks about lower amplitude and ownership bias, hint hint, Dr. Rubin and Marodyne), what results does he mean? Does he have clinical trials showing that the lower amplitude machines like the Marodyne, were not sufficient to stimulate bone density/ quality? This study: Effectiveness of whole-body vibration on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials states "At this time, considering the high quality of evidence, it is possible to recommend WBV using high frequency (≈ 30 Hz), low magnitude (≈ 0.3 g), and high cumulative dose (≈ 7000 min) to improve lumbar spine aBMD in postmenopausal women. Other parameters, although promising, need to be better investigated, considering, when applicable, the safety of the participants, especially in vibrations with higher magnitudes (≥ 1 g)". I'm not a medical person, but doesn't this seem to be saying that the Marodyne with its lower amplitude is currently the only one they can recommend? Higher amplitudes await further testing? I didn't see Dr. Rubin's name anywhere on the study and under Ethics none are stated. Looking forward to your summary video.

    You’ll love it. I spend a lot of time reviewing that paper. Here’s the short. In the meta analysis they group the low and high displacement devices separately. They seem to conclude that the Marodyne device is the only one to recommend but if you dig deep there are only two papers that meet their criteria. One is Rubin’s and the other doesn’t report on hip and spine. That recommendation seems to only be coming from Rubin’s paper. Seems fishy to me. There is an abundance of literature supporting the higher amplitude devices for hip and spine BMD.

    I bought a vibration plate 4 months ago. Yes, it was one of the AFFORDABLE ones. This video information is very educational.... so since I have an affordable plate... should I no longer use it? I'm 72 and a couch potato.... I was hoping I was helping myself... but your guests think if I am unable to afford one of the thousand dollar + units.... use nothing at all.... RICH people need to walk in the REAL WORLD shoe's... So...do I throw my vibration plate in the closet.... how can I find out if it's helping or hurting me.

    I doubt seriously you are going to get a helpful response. Both of these guys know that there are very affordable safe vibration plates and they pretend and dance around the other products..unforgivable..This post is like a hour long sales pitch...confusioning everyone with words, words, words..

    Hi Barbara, I appreciate @lindakautzman7388s response but strongly disagree. First off, I’m not selling anything. There are words, words, words because it’s an interview. Hard to do without them. My approach here is to give each side the opportunity to discuss their products and chose the best companies to do so. I stand behind the work of professional products like PowerPlate and support their use. There are numerous alternatives on the market but as Jason says you run the risk of getting what you pay for. Inconsistent results and possibly increasing forces which may be harmful. You just don’t know. So, I stick with the brand leaders. And Barbara, I started my career making about $10,000 per year. I know what the real world looks like and what it’s like to live without much. I sympathize with fixed budgets and limited income. That’s why we offer our Bone Foundations course for free and our HSN for $15/month. We are serving the community as best we can in a non subsidized practice.

    Your first speaker is so sloppy in his words and thus in is thinking that I can only look and see iwhat he is emphasizing of what I already know. He is NOT to be believed. SMH He says things that I am certain/know are wrong. 1, 2, He mentions he has nor seen result from lower speed vibration, above 35Hz. at 1 to 2mm. The rocker/teeter-totter machines have some very good studies. His clients like triplanar. He demos it as rotation (on z axis, y axis, x axis) saying leftright, frontback, updown. (These dont have"G's. They have wiggles. I dont know how he measures G's. But he says he doesn't know what the G's mean. Then picks a number that none of the machines he is talking about have. (red herring). The host already said in part one then her is asking about something they dont know. This speaker does not have the patients on directly after joint replacement while in part 1 you say that is the really important time to use them. I am half way through and done with this video.
