Dr. Berg is WRONG! | The TRUTH About Hormone Replacement after Menopause

In this conversation, Dr. Douglas Lucas reviews a video by Dr. Berg that falsely accuses bioidentical hormones of being unsafe. Dr. Lucas provides feedback based on evidence and his experience, highlighting the benefits of bioidentical hormones and addressing the concerns raised in the video. He clarifies the definition of bioidentical hormones and explains the differences between bioidentical and synthetic hormones. Dr. Lucas also discusses the importance of understanding the age group and context when discussing hormone optimization. He emphasizes the need for studies comparing bioidentical hormones to synthetic hormones and provides insights into hormone replacement therapy for postmenopausal women.

The Womens' Health Initiative itself had an "arm" or subset of women who had no uterus. They were given the Premarin without an opposing progestogen. This subset of women had reduced breast cancer risk. Therefore, I concluded that it is the progestogen that raised breast cancer risk. I was a cell biology researcher looking for a treatment for my 70-year old mother who had fallen while hiking and broke both her wrists. After beginning transdermal estradiol (the patch) and micronized oral progesterone, she never broke another bone in the rest of her life. She lived to 94 and fell several times.

Listening to many experts is how we learn and therefore can make our own decisions for our health care. Not sure why you took this so personally.

Excellent information. I'm beginning my journey to understand my 64 year old body. I was on HRT from 52 to 60. It got rid of my significant hot flashes and other frustrating issues. They refused to continue due to stroke risk. I now wonder why they didn't switch me to a bioidentical at low dose patch and pill. The NAMS Position Statement of 2022 is significant for me as I age. The health benefits are important to those of us at this age if appropriate. I now understand the true risks and the truth about the Womens Health Initiative. Why the truth, when it came out, wasn't promoted was, in my opinion, harmful to women.

But HRT can increase your chances of Breast cancer. My primary doctor told me this - but I didn't listen to her. But went with anti aging doc advice. Up until this year my bones were Normal. Now have osteopenia 3.5 yrs after stopping HRT. Doctor needs to do the risk/benefit & advise according to your specific situation. But their advice may be colored by their specialty, sigh.

(preventive) I think maybe if it isn't in your family you will have a better chance of this working. I just can't agree. So sorry that I don't agree but just want some women to do this cautiously.

FYI: Dr Doug: The Dr Berg vid that you are referring to is 5 yrs old. In a perfect world, vids with outdated, de-bunked info would be removed, but sadly, this appears not to be the case. The Dr. Berg video is one of his older videos. He may have revised his thinking since then. I don’t think he is averse to admitting it when he is wrong, especially since knowledge in the health care arena is ever evolving. One thing I will fault him on in the video is he has written on the board hormone replacement for “older women”. We do know that once women go into menopause estrogen and progesterone tanks, and even though our adrenal glands can make these hormones, they are not made in anywhere near the volume they were when our ovaries were making them.

I have followed Dr. Berg for a few years now, he has helped me and my wife address several minor chronic issues based on his advice from deep research. I'm not saying he is perfect but he's pretty close based on my experience and what seems to be MOST people who follow him which is OVER 11 million subscribers so I really wouldn't go here if I were you, there is a reason why Dr. Berg has that many subscribers. I can tell you that now I will unsubscribe just from the fact that instead of you just giving YOUR version of what you believe you chose to try and tear a VERY reputable man down just because you didn't agree with his approach, you don't have to agree with him, just do your own video instead of trying to build yourself up by tearing someone down which I would believe Berg over you since Berg has been the one that has been EXTREMELY helpful for me and my wife address chronic issues over the past few years. The guy is spot on with everything that I've experienced. So way to go on losing a subscriber....try a different approach and instead of trying to tear someone else down, you should try Bergs approach and just do your own thing and leave others out of it!

I think the point is missed here. Dr. Doug received a number of inquiries about a particular video of Dr. Berg’s which prompted him to create this video. He is primarily asserting that because Dr. Berg does not identify age groups within his video content, his information does not apply to postmenopausal women.. Maybe Dr. Berg should have specified this in his video? Dr. Doug is making sure people have all the facts on BHRT, (which I am immensely grateful for)…Misinformation can come from anywhere and regardless if one approves of this Video title, we need to be open to alternative views on all platforms. As a postmenopausal woman with severe osteoporosis, Dr. Doug has truly been a saviour for me and many others as we navigate our way through this without embracing the pharmaceutical route. To each their own.

@@dianegould905 I think your point along with Dougs are misguided...first off how old is the video, secondly Berg might have already addressed this, thirdly some items here could easily been taken out of context, Doug doesn't show the entire video, he only shows portions. Bottom line is that it's VERY shady to criticize someone like Berg who has been spot on with SO MANY health and nutrition points, what Doug SHOULD have done was just stay in his lane and do his own video addressing this subject without pulling anyone else into it and try to prove someone wrong who has been so right on so many subjects. He lost a subscriber due to it, I can't continue to follow a guy who has this kind of nature in him.

@@dianegould905 Is it possible that it is you who has missed the point? I referred only to Dr Doug's attack on another doctor's reputation and not on the reliability of any advice given - which you have incorrectly alluded to. In short, no health channel on KZread is ever going to give out advice that is 100% correct 100% of the time. And that includes Dr Dough's channel and Dr Berg's channel. Health is an ever evolving subject so advice becomes outdated with the passage of time. Being right 100% of the time is therefore impossible. For this reason it is highly unprofessional of Dr Doug to publicly besmirch another doctor's reputation just because (in his opinion) that doctor's past advice is now outdated. Dr Doug has lowered his own credibility by doing this. Better to let the quality of his own advice raise his reputation rather than try and lower the reputation of others. There's a good reason why other doctors with KZread channels do not attack one another. Because they are smart enough to know that doing so is unprofessional and reflects badly on their own degree of ethics and reputation. Which leads one to question Dr Doug's level of intelligence.
