The first 3 albums had so many radio hits, its just crazy. They had good stuff after that too, but the first 3 were their peak and the peak of Grunge/Alt Rock. This is one of the greatest pure rock songs of that era.

Scott Weiland is a sad story along the lines of Phil Lynot (Thin Lizzy)and Doug Hopkins (Gin Blossoms). Exceptional talent destroyed by drugs and alcohol, leaving us much too soon and only imagining what might have been. Ironically, the guy who replaced him (Chester Bennington of Linkin Park) also died way before his time. This song is my personal favorite from STP. I love that soft, beautiful intro and the transition to genuine hard rock. And, of course, Scott Weiland’s amazing voice. Much love ❤️

Thanks for bringing up our favorite 90s bands. I had forgotten some of them. I graduated in 98 from high school and seemed like yesterday. The radio was absolutely ripe with amazing music during that time. To be honest, next to the 80s, the 90s were a end to good music. It's hard to get what our kids are listening to now, but I'll try to keep up, and find myself shutting down to it quick. I remember going to a pool bar here in Jacksonville and they had the jukebox there. Well I always brought change and put on Black by Pearl Jam. There was always someone on the other side of the room yelling "Good choice, bro!"

I'll never forget that day in 1996 when my ex husband took our son to get his driver's license, and he drove his 1973 red Ford Maverick to my house to show me his driver's license. He had the cassette single of 1979 playing in his car and the song just blew me away.🎸

Scott Weiland, the lead singer of STP, was perhaps not as famous as Kurt Cobain or Layne Staley, but there's no denying the man had tons of talent... and he met a similarly tragic early end. "Crackerman" is my personal favorite STP song, but I would also recommend "Sour Girl" and "Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart". For more great 90s grunge, I recommend "Possum Kingdom" by Toadies, "Lightning Crashes" by Live, "Burden In My Hand" by Soundgarden, "Again" by Alice in Chains, "All I Know" by Screaming Trees, and "Pretend We're Dead" by L7. I guarantee "Possum Kingdom" will make Jay do the stank-face.

I was first introduced to this song when the band I was in was preparing for our 1st performance and "Interstate Love Song" was chosen to be in the set. ILS has a tricky rhythm and chords that aren't the usual "power chords" found in so many rock songs. The song was fun to learn. Our lead guitar player had to contend with using a slide for the intro to the song then trying to ditch the slide without losing a beat to finish the rest of the song. Keep Smiling! 🎸😎

Yeah, this is from 1994, same album as "Vasoline". You can go earlier ("Plush" and "Creep") or a bit later ("Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart"), or you can just stick with this album. "Big Empty" was actually the first single off of the "Purple' album. They were also a fine covers band. They did killer versions of the Beatles' "Revolution" and the Doors' "Break on Through". (Have you done the original yet?). Enjoy.

I just realized you haven’t done Pearl Jam “Black” yet?? That is an absolute must. Do the MTV Unplugged version. You’ll fall in love. That should be your next one. But yes, plenty to chose from between Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Janes Addiction, Candlebox, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. So much to chose from. Or just even just do songs from the movie Singles (hint at a movie reaction). It even cameos Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden). My favorite from the band that to me started the “grunge” era is called “Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns” by Mother Love Bone. Absolutely epic.

Scott and STP are definitely on my "stay list" of music, and will always be. As a 56 year old man, most of the early 90 bands and the members of these bands were my peers. This music got me through some very tough times. Even though STP isn't classified as "Grunge" or the "Seattle Sound" they should be IMO. As a Seattle Sound advocate, Layne and Chris will ALWAYS be my favorite singers... but Kurt, Mark, Andy, and so many others not mentioned, that have tragically passed, not to mention ALL the musicians in many of those "Grunge Bands" that left us way too early were like a gang of Dark Angels roaming the planet. Unknowingly, their music meant the world to so many of us, and it still does to me. To this very day, when it seems like another sunrise is years away, this music gets me through the night... so I say thank you to ALL of you! I wish I could return the favor....R.I.P. Scott.... give Layne and Chris my best, put the good word in for me at the gates, and try to save me a seat a the big table right between all 3 of ya...

@@karenduell1027 I've also read Scotts Autobiography.... Chris Cornells Biography "Total F**cking Godhead" and "Alice In Chains (the untold story)".... you should check those 2 out as well. They were therapy for me and corroborated what I pretty much surmised.... all these guys were humble, soft spoken, sensitive, and clearly vulnerable. Listening to interviews with them, and how articulate and well thought out their responses were, it's very endearing and humbling. Most people who really don't understand that genre of music have no clue how genuine they the artists were. These guys put their innermost feelings into their lyrics.... that speaks volumes to me. (No pun intended) How can anyone who can relate to their struggle not respect that? Regardless if you like the music. I never knew any of them personally.... but I've always felt like I lost a family member when one of them passed on. Crazy? Maybe. But I'd rather be genuine as well then just go through the motions. I wish I could share a past with you I wrote years ago about a dream I had about Chris Cornell after his death because I struggled with it very much. I think you would really enjoy it. Having lived through it, I think Grunge was the first genre blending. It took rock, blues, and country and mixed them in a very unique way, so much so that it got it's own name/genre. Nothing they were doing was new as far as has it been played before, but the way they put it all together to create the whole was masterful and genius.

*"Fall To Pieces"* by Velvet Revolver would be a good reaction. Velvet Revolver is made up of STP singer, Scott Weiland, and band members from Guns-N-Roses...including Slash. Not many have reacted to Fall To Pieces, but it should be suggested more.

Was fortunate enough to see them live in late 90s, put on a great show. Their first couple of albums are really good with a bunch of popular radio heavy hits as well as other tracks that are every bit as good, definitively worth diving into.

"The Big Empty" by Stone Temple Pilots was one of the best songs I had ever heard when it 1st came out. Everytime I hear it, it takes me back to a different time, a different life. It was on the soundtrack for the movie "The Crow"...tragically Brandon Lee's last movie.

It’s was a showcase of soulful, genuinely felt music delivered by a profoundly talented band and a great singer with psychedelic stage presentation. Just phenomenal. They remain one of my all time favourite bands and “Sour Girl” is my favourite song.

I was fortunate enough to see STP in concert in Chapel Hill, NC at the Dean Dome in 1996. I was 19 years old. Local H opened for them. That was a group you all should check out. They were basically a one-hit wonder. Bound for the Floor by Local H was on the radio a lot back then. GREAT song. Loved STP, and so thankful that I got to see them way back then. Like y'all, I have a wide range of musical interests. Love bluegrass, old-school 1950s country, but I love the 90s rock period. That was my early 20s music. Bush, Green Day, Nirvana, stuff like that. Thanks for another great video. I'm relatively new to you guys, and I'm just going back through your videos. Keep up the good work! Love it!

Scott Weiland was such an amazing talent, but like many who have such talent, it comes at a price. RIP. A lot of amazing voices from this era lost. (Still miss Chris Cornell. No one did or will ever sound like him.)
