That was great. I actually grew up watching Darby O'Gill and the Little People it just happened to be one many movies we got from a box full of vhs tapes at a yardsale as a kid. If you ever want to see a handsome young Sean Connery before he was James Bond sing in a Walt Disney Movie I recommend, I was surprised it was him really singing and that he had a decent voice as a lot of old movies would dub a singer in. But the effects are cool honestly for how old the movie is I don't' think they got to see the end part of that scene where the cave splits open. And the banshee use to scare the crap out of me lol. You've got the King of Leprechauns, treasure, a game of wits, the pooka, a banshee, and the death coach. Don't watch on Disney Plus though they dubbed over all the voice of Darby O'gill's actor and King Brian's actor completely, kinda disrespectful to the actors work as it's been the same for 60 years even on the dvd releases. It's about Irish people living in a small village but they Americanized the voices because "it might be hard for people to understand what is being said". I never had an issue and live in the middle of nowhere USA. Maybe less Americans would "have issues understanding" if they heard different accents more often, granted I don't think they made the decision because of any overwhelming complaints why fix something that isn't broken.

This show is great, but it hits its peak when the guys dive into old special effects. The level of painstaking detail and forethought filmmakers had to have back then is just incredible, and I'm really glad there's a channel like this highlighting and explaining that part of movie history for dummies like us.

I think covering new movies is also a service because we give production companies billions setting them and their families up for life. That's how I always looked at this show like a public service announcement regarding shitty FX and maybe helping influence movie goers to be a little more demanding for their ticket prices.

I wonder if there is a video that they could do where they deliberately are not allowed to use CGI and have to resort to classic in camera effects. - Perhaps the only use of computers would be to print matte paintings etc but the final result has to be entirely in camera.

Thanks for doing those analyses on REALLY OLD movies! I personally feel that a LOT of the original VFX knowledge is getting lost because of CGI. The "mirror trick" is a great example. The "mirror trick" is known by the term "Schüfftan projection" invented by Eugen Schüfftan and Ernst Kunstmann and was invented for the works of Fritz Lang of "Die Nibelungen" and "Metropolis"-fame.

Big chungus Bugs Bunny in Space Jam: A New Legacy was a nod to the version of pudge Elmer Fudd from Wabbit Twouble. Bugs Bunny morphed into Big Chungus Bugs to mock Elmer. One of the great things about movies in general are the nods to the past. In the crowd scene from Space Jam: A New Legacy, I love the crowd being composed of movie characters. The first time watching it, you pay attention to the action on the court. The second time you start to notice the crowd here is different. Then you do spend a lot of time seeing who is in the crowd. Still step is still a great tool. So cool that you guys went back to 1959. In the early 1970's, my father took us to see a rerun of Darby O'Gill and the Little People at matinee. Interesting enough, my father had a 35mm Projector. He bought a print of Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Bedknobs and Broom Sticks, and Blackbeard's Ghost. Darby O'Gill co-starred future Bond Sean Connery. Peter Ustinov gave such a great performance as Edward Teach or as better know, Blackbeard in Blackbeard's Ghost. Watching these movies today reminds me of why they called it Disney Magic and the Magic Kingdom. It would be interesting to have Ryan Reynolds to discuss the VFX in his movies. That would be fun.

You guys HAVE to do an episode of VFX Artists Reacts on "The War of the Worlds." You've got the analog way of doing things from the 1953 Classic, you've got Spielberg's version from 2005 using a mix of CGI for the aliens+Tripods and some absolutely insane practical stages like the rotating road and the giant boat+miniature boat they used for the ferry sequence, you've got the 2019 BBC miniseries with full CG Tripods+aliens, plus the current miniseries on Epix, a CGI-filled multi-media musical, then 4 other movie adaptions from 2005, 2008, and 2012 to look at as well. I don't think there's any other series (except maybe versions of the creature from the black lagoon or Dracula) that has been re-done so many different ways by so many different teams of artists pulling from the same singular piece of source material, which to this day has never been adapted straight (even the BBC mini changed a lot of the story and the designs of the Tripods).

I was SO focused on the Thundercats in the background of Space Jam, I only watched them. It looks like they gave everyone about 4 moves that they would repeat. ie: Lion-O raises his fist, then puts his hands together and cheers, then puts his arm around Cheetara, the he waves to the crowd to cheer more. Then repeat.
