Dude. All that work and you ended up getting the most benefit from vacuuming the garbage out of the airbox.
FYI, these mods do work on the 8th gen VFR. I just did them on my 2014. The fueling felt very good on it until I put an aftermarket exhaust on it ( coffman ). With the aftermarket exhaust there was a definite flat spot in the torque curve from about 5,000 rpm's to 6,800 rpm's. Also felt a little jerky at low rpm's. Now it runs better than ever! One note: I didn't delete the snorkel, I trimmed off the part that is inside the box, but left the exterior part of it as is, with it removed I could look right into the air box at the filter, I didn't want to risk water getting in there from rain or when washing the bike.

@@Jirkator2000 How did it go?
Done all these mods to my 2001 VFR800.After a short period of no difference,I've put it back to it's original configurance.
I once did a similar mod to a '91 Ducati 851. It had its airbox under the tank like the VFR and also had a removable lid. I purchased a metal perimeter frame from Ferracci that held the filter in place and had "hooks" that the retainer clips would attach to. The engine was now able to get air from the area of the entire airbox instead of just two small snorkels. This simple mod alone gave 5 additional horsepower which was nice but the induction sound was incredible!!! I will be doing the same to my VFR.
Just completed all the of these mods today on my 2008 and I’m glad I did. Really helps the low end out! Thank you for the great videos!
You should also block the vaccum line you took off the flapper actuator as it will be a vacuum leak and let in unfiltered air.

@@HeroRR Please do an edit in the video to explain the blocking to as it is many people using this as reference.
This is the one thing I love about my pc800, you can lug the engine and still get really smooth power, I was going through stop and go traffic earlier today and the engine was running at around 1000 to 2000 RPM and I was able to keep it up right
I appreciate you taking the time to upload this video. I don't know about anyone else, but on my 07, this turned it into a totally different bike. Idles way smoother, and first gear is actually usable and isn't all jerky like it was before. It sounds better too. I feel my MPG is going to go down, because I'm going to draw out thosee gears longer to hear that growl!
Thanks for uploading! Disabled the flapper only and I am much happier with the performance on my 08VFR
Thanks for the tips and tutorial I just did this to my 09 VFR and big improvements. Most noticeable smoother idle, previously between 2k and 3k it was unusable now its much improved, and makes a much better intake sound :).

Mine is currently unusable from 2-4k RPM. I'll be trying this out. Thanks.
You saved my life! I love my "new" vfr. Sooooo much better than before. Thanks bro🙌🏼
I made the mods after watching your video. Amazing difference when ridind at low speed, and when the Vtec transition kicks, is really, really smooth! Thanks again for this video. I've gave this info on my vfr group in Portugal, and a few were really interested. For a good reason. No nests in my filter, though! ahaha
Did this to my 2015 today. Couldn't find much info online about if the 8th gen bikes needed this mod or not so I tried it out and omg, it's like a brand new bike. So much smoother at low rpm and shifts smoother too. I love it! I didn't do the snorkel though, I figure it probably helps keep water out and I get caught in the rain sometimes when I go long distance.

Rain water can't get in, pressure washing can, so beware people, also vermin love to make a nests/food stores in air-boxes ... waste of time pulling the snorkel, it does nothing for power or economy on any Honda, probly even all bikes, junk the Flappers system, did nothing anyway only quieten the motors induction down to pass stupid noise test at low rpm's. Install chicken coup wire mesh or similar small grid wire mesh over snorkel end & over flapper inlet, it keeps mice out, we rarely see this mice issue here in the UK, but it's been documented on many bikes. If you store your bike outside under a cover/lean too or an unsealed shed/garage, you defo need to chicken wire the air intakes, can't do much about mice/rats chewing thru wiring, but they do love to munch on electrical cables for some weird reason.

Good video mate... I did the flapper and snorkel and enjoyed the sound improvement and it was definitely smoother.. I also blocked the pair but didn’t pull the plug and it idled rough and needed the idle adjusted
For smooth ride don't forget to adjust throttle cable. It will take few minutes and make big difference.
Pro tip: the chain adjusting wrench is also used to keep the tank lifted 😉

I did an air box modification on my 86 VFR 750 with a 2 inch hole saw, re jetted the carbs, and pinched a 4 into 1 Kerker pipe on it. It was loud and ran great. Lol. I wish I still had that bike.
Mods done thanks to this 😀 fortunately no leaves in my air box! Thanks!
Back from my test ride. Wow much smoother ride and a nicer deep roarrrr.
Big difference, no more snorkel or flapper. Awesome
Hi, thanks, although I have my doubts, in flapper I think you should cover it, the metal hose that the sale of round metal cap, plug with a plug and the cuff that goes in it too
great mod . i also completely tore out the flapper and removed the metal vacuum mechanism on the top of the air box . it twists out .
It’s satisfying because you discovered a problem and easily corrected it .

HEROrr hi, so I did one at the time. took it for a ride, did another, and so forth. first thing was the pair valve, I disconnected it and wow, the bike became sooo smooth. cornering and slow speed is now much easier. next was the flapper, not so much difference, but it pulls smoothly up till vtec and the kick is not so abrupt anymore. last came the snorkel, I think its mostly snarl and growl that was raised a bit, but I like it. not super noisy, just a bit more low end to it 😊 what a lovely new bike I got from doing this 😊 cheers
Hero, about to do this, FYI you can "spin out" the flapper valve. I'm going to do that to remove about a pound from the bike :).
Great video! I have a rat's nests under my seat after every winter. Next time I'll store my bike in one of those big sealable plastic bags... that should do the trick
I appreciate all the time and trouble you went through to make this video but I try to imagine what those brilliant engineers at Honda would say if they saw your video. Gotta give 'em respect, my friend. They're using those big brains of theirs to create the best motorcycle they can. I own all kinds of bikes from Harleys to Hondas (and yes, BMWs and Ducatis, too) and I've spent thousands on flowed heads, ported and polished heads, larger valves with special 3-angle cuts, tiny little side-thrust bearings on rocker arm shafts, swiss-cheese flywheels, Delorto pumper carbs, dual plug heads, blueprinting, balancing, not to mention carbs, air cleaner mods and exhaust mods and the only thing I succeeded with was making the bike louder, not better! Leave 'em stock and let 'em rock.

You do realize that every single race bike that honda makes doesn't have a flapper, pair, or snorkel. You want to know why? Because the reason why they have them is to pass emissions and noise regulations... that's it. If a honda engineer saw my video then he would agree that what i'm doing is a good thing for the bike. I even talked to my dyno tuner when I got my bike tuned and he recommended that I do that.

Not buyin' it, HeroRR. You said "every single race bike that Honda makes doesn't have a flapper, pair or snorkel" but there are so many differences between a race bike that Honda makes and the street bikes they make that you are comparing apples with kumquats. Leave it stock and let it rock.
Brother, I just did all these mods to my 2004 VFR800 earlier today and found the exact same thing in my airbox 😂😂
I love my bike again! Thanks.
Really good video I love it
good vfr video I would add some more air to the tires though 36`38 for the street
You can also just pop the leg out of the flap and leave the vacuum connected, saves having to block it off
I just did these mods and put a Delkevic system on, fucking awesome! Forgot to do the Pair mod tho.. But the snorkel, I just took the hose and folded it double and put a ziptie on it - the hose is still on the snorkel, works like a charm! Your tips are amazing dude. Any mirror mods soon? Usually you want it as close to empty, even if you go to a service. Its much easier to work with it that way. Otherwise drain it a bit.
When a vacuum line is removed, shouldn’t it be capped if so that a vacuum leak isn’t created that could throw off the fuel, mixture?

@HeroRR. Hello. In process of buying a 2002 VFR and the jerky throttle was one of the things that put me off the first (and only) one i looked at so far. Still getting one tho but that`s to be expected and this is the fix? Great. Other was "ticking"/rattling when cold. I assumed it was the valves as it`s approaching 30.000 miles. To be expected or walk away? Or not to worry but expect a valve adjustment summer 2020?
So overall is the pair, snorkel and flapper mod a good idea.. after riding the bike like this for awhile or what do you think after awhile? Thanks guys

It feels like I never have to adjust the chain on mine. Should the bottom of the chain touch the rubber runner as when I tightened up it felt too tight. Its hard to gauge the 1 inch mark as the chain touches the runner. Any advice would be great. Thanks

@rocknexus5749 yeah, but only had to remove the snorkel, the last owner(i guess) did the flapper mod and deleted the pair valve. To be honest,i think that the "power boost" sits in the stupid snorkel and the flapper. I love those pops on deceleration and i connected the pair valve back on(i noticed a pretty decent difference in fuel consumption with the pair valve connected since i still have the cat. convert on the bike, she drinks less 😅). About that power gap that you feel around 4500 rpm,it's mostly gone, bike pulls better down low,but i still feel it every now and then, not big of a deal. Overall,i am very pleased with it. Go for a ride with it stock, get back home, remove the flapper and the snorkel and go back on the road and you'll see it for yourself 😁. Ride safe, man! 🫡
Ok Finally got around to do the mods ..and if the mods did not make a sizable difference i would have gone back because i like my shit stock BUT the difference was very noticeable especially going onto a highway where you want that smooth immediate roll on power also, city slow riding is also much better !!! The mods are staying !! THX ... :)

Is this only specific to the californiUSSR variant?
Or, you could get a pre-VTEC vfr, I had a 99 model a good while back and it was nice and smooth, after i got it i kept bouncing it off the rev limiter for the first couple of weeks because it was so quiet and the power delivery was so linear.

I just traded my 05 z750 for a 02 vfr800, the chap that owned it before me hasn't done any of these to it, are they really needed, necessary, or make a difference?
I did these.... After I undid them again my bike had way more torque and mid range. If anything - I would say all this does is change the fuel air mixture and leans out the bike.
I take this change. But the cold idle rpm is 1000. The warm rpm is 1200-1500. What ia the problem? Normally cold rpm higher than warm.
Nice.
2 hours is definitely not enough time fro the K&N filter to dry, you just sealed the water in with the oil, so you have extended the drying time exponentially. That bike has been well looked after.
What the hell is the pair wire, what are you disconnecting?
Does this cause any long term damadge?
The throttle hand grip is yamaha's stock grip. .
Before making any mods, ask yourself - "am I smarter than a Honda Engineer"."am I smarter than Honda's entire engineering department"? I think not. Unless you're competitively racing the bike, keep it stock and only use OEM. I say this with 45+ years motorcycling experience, both street and racing.

Second day - I did PAIR valve mod also, VFR became less louder than first day, still same smoothness as first day. But I got cold start issue, felt like engine was not getting enough fuel and air when cold. Ran fine after warm-up. Then while doing r&d over PAIR valve, I watched this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/kayB282bqq29mbQ.html. Video says PAIR valve is connected with exhaust, but it's connected with all cylinders also, and helps in exhaust stroke in expelling spent air-fuel mixture through the exhaust valve. And PAIR valve is involved in lower RPMs. Third day - I reconnected PAIR valve system, VFR became louder as first day. As per me I liked snorkel and flapper mod. As bike feels more louder hence feels more powerful and enjoyable.

John there is a measuring sensor (o2 sensor). This is in a stupid place so the bike thinks the air/fuel mixture is wrong (lean) and so it pushes in more fuel . The real fuel/air ratio being poured into the bike is now around 11:1 making the bike hard to ride and resulting in the snatchy throttle response we have all been talking about.

It`s still snatchy but not half as bad as the early VTEC`s i tried and once you get the hang of it it`s not a problem. But the throttle travel is just insane. To the point where i`m ALMOST changing grip to get 100%. I will have to get that sorted, sooner rather than later because it`s really starting to annoy me. Come to think of it the 2001 has the o2 sensor too. It`s the "Lambda probe" we`re talking about right?
