    I use hair spray to install handle bar grips. When it`s wet, it acts as a lubricant so it easily slides on. And when it dries, it acts as a mild glue that firmly sticks but is easy to remove if you need to. I use a air compressor with a needle nose end to take it off. Just slide the needle nose in between the handle bar and the grip and blow air in it while you slide it off.

    When I bought my VFR I really wanted to have Helibars, but 4k miles later I got adjusted to the stock bars and find them pretty comfortable even on longer rides.

    Tip for the grips spray hairspray into and on the bars and slide on will act as a lubricant, when he hairspray dries it will act like a glue (you can still remove later it's not permanent)

    I’m hitting 66 (50 years of hard & long riding). So, I’m thinking of installing a set of HeliBars on my ‘09 VFR next summer. That said, the OEM bars work great too. Thanks for posting this video, but I’d like to know what’s really lost and gained from the HeliBars on this particular bike . . .

    Walter Wilkins did you ever install the helibars? How did they turn out? Do you still have your stock handlebars?

  • @UncleWally3

    @UncleWally3

    4 жыл бұрын

    Robert P. Yes, I did install the HeliBars; I do still have the stock bars. I’ve only had one season using the HeliBars so the jury is still out. That said, with no fault to HeliBar who were excellent in both product and service, I found the purchase process laborious and expensive. The last few years, polices from America render cross border purchases highly problematic - so, as a Canadian, I’ve simply stopped buying from the USA. Too many new senseless tariffs and border delays have needlessly increased the price of the product. If I lived in the states the price would be fair, but now that the current administration impedes cross border commerce, it’s too risky to chance buying anything. Bottoms line: HeliBars deliver what they promise to deliver, but if you’re not buying inside the USA, I’d stay away from the product or at a minimum, try to find out the cost and potential delays prior to purchasing.

    Is there much of a difference between the helibars compared with risers..I installed motocnc risers, they have taken a lot of pressure off the wrist but still not as comfortable as I want, and was wondering if the helibars improve it even more ?????

    I would never recommend retightening brake-lines with old washers as shown - copper washers should be annealed if reused; alu ones goes straight in the bin for new ones. Always torque banjo-bolts with correct value - if memory serves me correct that is 34 Nm on the VFR. So often you see over-torqued bolts on bikes - threads in aluminum are not that strong. Brakes is one place I never want to compromise... that goes for leaks, weakened threads etc... just my 5 cents

    What purpose do the tabs you cut off serve? And why do you have to cut them off?

  • @HeroRR

    @HeroRR

    6 ай бұрын

    It's a stopper for the brake line to prevent you from orienting it wrong and kinking the line. Because the helibars changes the angle of the lines you have to remove the tabs so you can loosen the line slightly (not enough to introduce air) and rotate it down a bit more to provide less of a kink. Otherwise you can leave the tabs but then you will need to remove the line completely and re-installing on the other side of the tab which will be a lot more work because then you will have to most likely bleed the brakes and on a combine brake system that is no quick task.

    I’ll repost the question I had (and still have) a year ago: What’s the word on HeliBar effecting comfort? How do they actually work?

  • @HeroRR

    @HeroRR

    5 жыл бұрын

    As i believe was explained in the video (i could be wrong). The bars will move the position of your hands higher and back more. Thus having your back slightly straighter. This will improve comfort. In my opinion it made a big difference and was well worth it. You can usually find a set on eBay pretty cheaply. I believe i got mine for $180. Was well worth the cost. Highly recommend.

    HeroRR - Thanks. I’m struggling with the decision to mount these bars or not. I’ve been riding long and hard on many bikes for about fifty years. At 67 years old, long rides on my fully farkled 2009 VFR is getting a tad challenging. I have other more ergonomically comfortable bikes, but I can’t give up on the VFR which remains one of my favorites. Guess it’s time to make one more “improvement” to this already excellent motorcycle.
