We just lost our 16 year old mini dachshund Amy. She had EXTREMELY elevated liver enzymes, Cushing’s disease, and an enlarged heart. We had been talking her to the vet every 2 weeks for monitoring. We knew it was coming but it is still such a shock to loose a member of the family. I wish our pets lived as long as we do. We miss her so much.❤️😔

It made my smile when you said about the egg shell. When my daughter who is now 33, was around 18 months old she was having good old dippy egg and soldiers, one tea time. She was dipping her soldiers like a trooper, so I decided to pick some toys up around her highchair. The next thing I hear is chomp chomp chomp. I looked up to see the shell gone. In my panic I called a Doctor friend of mine who laughed and said it was a good form of calcium, and wouldn't do her any harm. Needless to say from then on her dippy egg was sans shell. Thank you for bringing that memory back to me. Seeing Sherpa makes my day .

I have wonderful memories of mum making egg and soldiers when I was young, or feeling down. Haven't had them in years (partially because I had a break-in and even my egg cups were stolen) but the thought still makes me feel her love.

Yeah, we need a higher protein intake here as well. I mean, us ppl. The cats have kidney disease and have to be on lower protein. I supplement extra protein with my dog. I give her smelt, rabbit feet (cheaper than ears), dried gizzard, and the dried skins. I got some of those ideas from Sherpa. I should point out that I do not give her the feet or gizzards every day before you think I am overdoing it. :)

Sweet Sherpa made me think of my Tundra. I could put one pea or green bean, any vegetable in her food and she would eat all her food but there would be that vegetable left. I loved her so much and I love Sherpa so much. No words can express how much. Thank you Jamie for bringing this special boy into our lives!🫶

As my German shepherd got older, I switched out all the foods with heavy proteins, so things like liver, beef, etc, and i replaced them with lighter proteins, chicken, fish etc, I was able to keep him alive until he was 16.

Praying his liver gets better and he can have the surgery. So his mouth don't hurt him anymore🙏💙

As a very recent owner of a Husky, I can tell you that Huskies are allergic to chicken and all grains. We quit buying dog food because most of it is full of fillers and crappy stuff anyway. Our Gypsy ate three times a day and had goat's milk with every meal. We made her food, which was ground turkey, baby bella mushrooms, and apples, all diced up and cooked together. She literally danced for every meal! I highly suggest going as all natural as possible. Yes, it takes extra time and even extra money, but our dog babies are worth it. Good luck.

May more people give their compassionate prayers for Sherpa s healing for his liver condition. That God would bless you both help Sherpa s fast recovery to lengthen strengthen him more for long. Long years....bless your health both....Asia Japan

I know how you feel my old greyhound had four teeth removed last Friday and during the operation he had a heart arrythmia and fortunately the vet used a drug that they can be brought out of quickly and that is what saved him. I know all to well the worry about this stuff. You both are in my prayers.

If I had to have yellow flowers growing randomly in my yard I’d take buttercups everyday!

Sherpa could not possibly have a better caretaker, Jamie. He's in the best hands and he is living his best life thanks to you. Just be sure to give yourself the care and attention you need as well!

My doggo Lex had underactive thyroid, and his liver enzymes were high too. Im sure you are aware these things go together. Treats are high in formeldyhe (anti mould) clean food, roast chicken for treats..clean blood.. and six month diabetes check, as hormone probs and blood cleansing usually go together... as chemical free for him as possible.. chlorine free water. Love you Sherpie. xxxx🦴🦘

I am so sorry to hear about the liver levels😢 You are doing everything right be addressing his diet straight away. Food is where healing begins and continues.❤️ I love the fact that you are doing the research on your own now and introducing berries and more chicken. I do have a little helpful hint on the berries…. you may want to either defrost them or smash them up. It will make it easier for Sherps to be able to eat them.😉 That’s what we did when we put berries and veggies in the meals we gave to Max when he was with us.❤️ I will have you both in my thoughts and prayers 🙏 Love to you both🤗❤️

Jamie, you're such a good dad for our beloved Sherpa, I'm sure Sherpa will go through this health challenge with a very good chance of gaining back his health, because of the changes you made in his diet.

I am praying for Sherpa to have much more quality time to live on this planet. We never know how much time we will be granted with our BLESSINGS and no matter how much time that turns out to be it is Never enough. I hope the new diet helps Sherpa to get stronger and to live longer.

Regarding giving Sherpa eggshells, you can blitz them up in a food processor, so that they become a powder & that removes all the sharp edges. Another KZreadr @Bordernerd does this with all her pets. Our little pup had bad liver enzymes from the time she was about three. We gave her Denamarin supplement each day and put her on a low protein hepatic diet. Prescription dog food is expensive but she lived a good long life - even with her liver issues. She had several teeth pulled and neck surgery at 10 years old and came through like a champ. Big hugs to Sherpa!

Since he came back for more it seems he likes the changes. Those last few barries may have just been, "I've chased these around the bowl long enough" Too bad you can't give him the barries as juice or as a sorbet now that it's getting hot. Been watching some of the older videos and he does like his ice cream cones.

I hope you can forgive my lack of attention yesterday😔, my dear sweet gorgeous footman.🤓 I was in the fight🤺 of my life with some boxes.📦📦 And they were not playing nice.😖 They were growling and biting at times. It was like fighting a zombie apocalypse🧟‍♂️ I had to pull out some moves Batdog🦇🐺 taught me. But in the end … VICTORY WAS MINE!🙌 Now, they did take back some land last night … So, the battle continues💣……… Wish me luck.🍀

The hardest part is knowing it’s a process…fatty liver in people produces too much sugar/glucose…just feed as you need, make sure the operation is needed to extend the quality of HIS life..sometimes just keeping a pet comfortable is the best as a surgery can physically strain other body parts and a perfect outcome might be short lived. We want him happy and healthy as possible in his final years, we love both of you.

I've never known a dog who liked blackberries or raspberries, but I have had a dog who LOVED blueberries. She would just graze them off the bushes.
