Vertigo Treatment Sitting Exercises | Occupational Therapy
Are you experiencing dizziness getting and out from the bed or throughout the day?
If you do, you need to do the exercises that I will be showing you in this video.
When you get dizzy getting in and out the bed or anytime throughout the day you might be experiencing vertigo. Vertigo Is the sensation of spinning triggered by your
head moving very quickly or sudden postural changes.
It’s most common causes are benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, infection, Meniere’s disease and migraine.
That feeling of dizziness or where everything seems to be spinning around can be the debilitating and stops you from doing your normal daily activities. It is important to manage your dizziness so that you can do your self-care without losing balance or fear of falling.
Occupational therapy can guide you using exercises that will help your body to get used to the postural changes or signals that is causing your vertigo.
In this video we will be sitting down while doing this exercises to make sure we don’t fall while doing them. First we will be doing ankle and hand pumping. This will help you with the blood circulation.
Next will be doing eye movements. First we will be looking up and down, side to side and diagonal. You are not going to move your head but only your eyes. Do this 10 times and each twice a day.
Next exercise is head movements. You are going to maintain or fix your eyes on an object In front of you while you’re move your head up and down , side to side and diagonally. Do this 10 times each and twice a day.
Third exercise is reaching up and down. Where is your simply going to reach up towards the ceiling and reach down towards our toes. This will train our vestibular system during postural changes.
Next exercise we are going to do Brandt Daroff exercises. First position is we’re going to sit upright then we will turn our head 45° towards the left and then you lay down to your couch or your bed towards the right and hold it for 30 seconds then slowly get up and do the opposite side.
So, these are the exercises that could help you cure your vertigo. I hope this helps and decrease your dizziness.

Thank you, Nathan for this easy to follow exercise. I had my vertigo since January, 2023 and tried different meds and exercises. Nothing worked, came across your video, easy and simple that really works. I’ve been doing this for three weeks now and honestly say I don’t feel the dizziness anymore. Hi nathan you are the man! I am extremely happy for coming accross your video i subscribed and liked. These are easy exercises and easy to follow and effective. The last step which is lying down i am starting to follow but not too much of lying down only a little bit halfway i sm scared that it would spin. Theres a little dizziness halfway is this normal? gnext time i will try yo go all d way down on the last strep thank you so much

I had a cerebellum stroke last year. First 2 months couldnt even sit at the edge of the bed without dizzyness and nausia. Then it all went away. Then i had to have surgery again to get rid of the clot put a plate in head. Somethin else i forget now. When i was done i was all dizzy and nausiated again but it was a lil more managable. I forced myself to exercise, walk and try to be more mobil. But i still get sick and nausiated. So i will try these exercises. Im still not able to walk heel to toe another thing im starting to practice. Its been a year. I want to thank you for making vidio.

it just dawned on me - when doing the eye execises and holding our thumb out in front. i had a thought. to give our eyes trhe same range of motion, should we hold our thumb at eye level so our eyes go the same distance up and down from our stationary object? just a suggestion. ps. i am making good progress too. thx, jw.

These exercises is to habituate with the dizziness and to adjust better so we develop strategies not to lose balance.

Try doing it atleast 3x. If vertigo hasnt stopped or improved, see your doctor please. 3x for one day, step by step.

Can vertigo be caused from the computer? I swear I recently updated my computer & immediately felt the vertigo looking at the screen. I am wondering if they changed something to accommodate games &/or certain apps. I tried changing a bunch of settings, e.g. motion, color, brightness-nothing made a difference. Thank you!

Ì was doing.candle concentration. Exercise upon finishing I laid down I immediately felt the dizziness when I Rosed up again tje dizziness returned. Could vertigo be caused by the eyes concentrated at a single point?

It is not. The bp needs to be controlled through medication. And when it is stable, exercises will regulate it.

It should help with some dizziness but since it is an inner ear condition, it wont help as much

Hello I tried to keep in touch but got cut of. Two weeks ago I got up in the night with my right hand numb and a little lifeless mfamily got scared thinking it was a stroke or I’m getting a hearth attack but I visit the, doctor, and prescribe medication saying it’s a pinch nerve I use the tablet and exercise felt a bit better , then I visits physiotherapy took a CTCan and an ECG, reports were great . Also the first doctor wants me to get an MRI, so I’m holding on as it’s costly and I m a bit okay . But my family decide to do it at a later date , what will You recommend doctor, please send some advice for me I’m using a hearing aid and change about four already its about trentyyearr now. I’m seventy six years old please help me thank you so very much

To see if where the dizziness is coming from or what’s causing it, see your doctor. It might be simple or complicated ao it is better to get checked
