Thank you so much for this. I bought a motorcycle without a title. The seller said that the titled owner was incarcerated for 20+ years and they couldn’t find the title. Last place the bike was titled was in New York in 2008. I’m in Florida. New York dmv said the only way to start the process on releasing the title to Florida was to bring the bike into a New York dmv for a VIN verification. I’m not bringing the bike all the way up there. Especially since I’d still need to go thru the 6 month process of obtaining the title thru a mechanics Lien or derelict vehicle report down here. The bike is a 2007 so I’m just about at that 15 year mark. If Florida is going to make me wait 6 months anyway, AFTER I bring the bike up to New York and back. I might as well just wait the necessary time and submit the forms to Vermont. So I thank you for breaking it down and explaining exactly how to do that!

Just went to the MVA (DMV) in Maryland and the person I dealt with was doing the whole transaction to transfer titles with just the Vermont registration so I was very excited. He then proceeded to tell me he was almost done, but needed approval for an override to finish the transaction. After he came back he told me that the person would not approve and that I needed a Vermont Title! That is when I used the form (VT-015a) you mention in this video and told him that Vermont uses the registration as a title and that I have had friends use this process before. I have not have personal friends do this before but what the heck maybe it made it sound more realistic. I saw him speak with the lady he spoke with at first for about 5 mins and then they both moved to speak to another individual and in about 5 more minutes she can back and DID THE APPROVAL! Happy to say the process works and hopefully it goes smooth for anybody else in the future too!

Awesome!!....I had the same experience when the DMV clerk asked me for the Vermont Title...I gave her the Bulletin, she read it, then went to talk with another clerk and said OK....Walking out of the DMV with plates and a New Registration felt like I hit lotto....Enjoy your ride!

@@Hass_ yeah that is false. My vehicle was previously had a title a Maryland and and the process worked. Only thing I can say is I didn’t know the status of the previous title.

Thanks for your excellent video!!! I have a couple of questions. How did you fill out the "Notice of transfer of ownership" of the Vermont Registration? In this case, the previous owner and the current owner is the same person. What are you supposed to write as the "Selling Price"? Did you pay sales tax for the NY registration? Thank you very much!

Same of the DMV offices here at Las Vegas do not accept the Vermont paper. Try other DMV field offices. I did mine in Decatur branch DMV. As long you have the complete documents. Will be easy.

I just wanted to let anyone know who’s looking. I used these same steps but when I went to the dmv on my MV84 I requested “title only” I told the women working the counter I just wanted a NY title. Took around a month and I got a title only. I love VT

Did you have to have insurance prior to doing the Vermont to NY title? I didn't think so because I thought you couldn't have insurance on a vehicle registered in 1 state and insurance in another. My main concern with doing all this is my local DMV not wanting to cooperate. Is it possible to only get just the title and not the registration? or is it preferred to get both at the same time or the opposite in case of DMV rejection?

I needed the Insurance when I was registering the vehicle in my home state, NOT needed for Vermont…. Vermont will not issue a Title for a vehicle 15 years old or older. They issue a Registration (this is used to register the vehicle in your home state)… Your home DMV has to register the vehicle and issue you a title…Print and bring the “Vermont Bulletin “ when you go to register the vehicle in your home state (the Bulletin saved me when the clerk asked why I didn’t have a Vermont Title)…. @@beachtroll8344 My main thing is I didnt wanna register it and get my home state plates at the same time as getting a title here. I didnt know if it was possible to do that or less smoother/easier. I've always seen everyone do title and new registration in their home state at the same time, but didn't know if it was the only way to do it, and if insurance was required beforehand to get home state registration.

So you do not have to reside or show proof ie license from Vermont to do this? I bought my vehicle originally in the state of NY but when I paid off the vehicle , i never received the title. The car dealer i was making payments to sent it to the bank the refinanced my vehicle and somehow my title came up missing when i paid off the vehicle .

Correct...I bought my vehicle in NYS from a private seller who gave me a title....When I went to NYS DMV I was told the title was void because a newer title had been issued....I tried contact the seller and he was not helpful, so I went through Vermont with no problem (just took about 3-4 weeks)...The vehicle MUST be 15 yrs old or older to go through Vermont...Good luck!

very cool - question: any idea if the FL DMV accepts the VT registration as proof of ownership for their application for title, AND what if the vehicle is listed in the FL DMV system as having already been titled (10 years ago) in FL? (no salvage, no issues, no liens, paper title, but it IS in their titling system already), because I ran a VIN check and mine is. Would that matter?

It shouldn’t be any problem...My vehicle was Titled in NY (where I live) and the Title the seller gave me was an old Title (I didn’t know at the time) .... When I went to the NYS DMV the clerk said a newer Title was issued in 2014....The Title the seller gave me was from 2001. He didn’t return my calls.....Which is why I had to go the Vermont route.....Once I got the VT Registration I was able to Title it in NY......Good luck!

Same thing for the the bike I bought was previously registered in Maryland (where I live) but the owner died and the bike was sold to someone without having proper rights/authorization to sell it and they signed the title over but it was not valid. I went the Vermont route and the DMV did not care that it was previously titled in Maryland, at my visit it was not even brought up.

The vehicle was a 2001...The seller gave me the original title. When I went to the DMV the clerk said a new title was issued in 2018 which “voided” the title I was given by the seller...You can check the DMV online to see the most current issued title year (which I should’ve done, but didn’t)...You just need the vehicle’s VIN # to check.

Did you use a template for the bill of sale?

They do look better 😁.... But in NYS, you have to register your vehicle within 30 days if you live in NYS.

Did you have to bring the Vermont plates to the NY dmv with you? I’m trying to register a vehicle (1972) within NYS I just want it in my name here in NY seems like you’ve laid out the entire process I’m just curious if they gave you any other nonsense with this.

I did bring the Vermont plates (just in case), but NYS DMV doesn’t take them....All I needed was the Vermont Registration with my name, a copy of the Vermont Bulletin (states a vehicle 15 years or older isn’t issued a title in Vermont, and the NYS DMV Registration paperwork....Good luck!

No trouble the DMV Las Vegas Sahara field office process it easy I just give the license plate the Vermont and the registration and paid the fee for Nevada registration. Also give the Smog test and VIN verification. No problem and transfer my registration for Nevada. They didn’t look for the title. As long the car is named to you.

So, the Sahara location might be better but the Henderson office told me that they will send it to the SED department. They will then investigate and will let me know if I can register my vehicle. I should get a call within the coming weeks will update again.

didnt work for me, they turned me away at DMV Flamingo Las Vegas NV, i HAD ALL THE PROPER PAPERS,

I just seen the NMVTIS message on the Vermont DMV website. I am not sure what they mean by "for all vehicles not titled in Vermont, a registration number will be submitted to NMVTIS instead of the 13 digit title number." Is this a new extra step to prevent scams or will this impact my request for a title?

If the vehicle you’re trying to register is 15 years old or older, Vermont doesn’t issue you a Title. ...They issue the vehicle a Vermont Registration, which you then take to YOUR state’s DMV, which will issue you a title for your state.

@@anthonyviterna9924 - did you explain to Nevada DMV that any vehicles older than 15 years or less than 300cc Vermont does not issue a title. (Presuming your vehicle is a motorcycle) In Texas for example, you vehicle can be title in another State yet registered to drive in Texas.

I just needed the Vermont Registration....I do recommend you print out a copy of the Vermont Title Informational Bulletin (in my video).... I showed the Bulletin to the NYS DMV clerk when she questioned why I didn’t have a title for the vehicle.....You’ll also need the filled out NYS DMV forms for registering a vehicle...Good luck!

The Vermont Registration Card/Certificate is what you bring to your state DMV to register the vehicle and Title it in your state.....The 10 day temporary inspection I mentioned is what NYS issues to a used vehicle being registered in NYS.....Good luck!

I took the Vermont Registration (with my name), the filled out Registration form for my state, a check for payment at DMV, and I also brought a copy of the Vermont Bulletin which states that Vermont does not issue a Title for a vehicle 15 years old or older (the Bulletin helped me at my DMV...The clerk asked why I didn’t have a title and the Bulletin cleared it up)....Good luck!

When I got all my paperwork from the Vermont DMV sent to me, I went online and added my new vehicle information.....I printed out the insurance card and brought that with me to my NY DMV (proof of insurance) along with the other NY DMV Registration forms that I filled out....My license was no issue, you’re just registering a vehicle in your state using the Vermont registration as proof of ownership....Good luck!

New York does not title vehicles older than 1975 & just keep the Vermont plates on till you sell it its legal why waste money in New York again especially inspection also & could fail as Vermont does not have it.

@@beachtroll8344 When I lived there I kept my car registered to Florida as was cheaper & no inspection to worry about. Just used a friends address there or you can get address at UPS store for mail etc.
