Verbal Bullying: Never Give Words Power Over You!

Verbal Bullying is the most reported case of bullying in the United States, so it's imperative that we teach boys how to respond, not react to words. #SavingBoys

So many people in society need to listen to this. Too many people are reacting to words, being offended by words, that they are giving power to. Unless the words are actually affecting your livelihood, your standing in the community, just let it flow off you like water off a duck’s back. If it’s actual defamation, then yeah, take the legal action, but don’t be going crazy cakes if it’s not.

Takes balls to say you're bullied with the bullies watching. And to stand in front of that class and verbally accept those compliments. Great show of character.

Maybe, but that boy now has some tools to help him out. Bullies only understand two things: Victims and non victims. If you’re unavailable to the bully’s cries of shame, then you’re not a victim anymore and the bully moves on to find another victim.

What he should be saying is that even if you are fat and someone calls you fat you shouldn't let those words hurt you either. He's telling the kid that he's not short when infact he really IS short. Guy should be teaching him to accept that fact and not take shit from anyone who tries to bully him with it, instead of lying to him and saying "You're not short"

I grew up in rough circles and was bullied all my early life, and here's the thing - it was often it's the case that what the bullies were saying was true. It was true. And that was the most hurtful thing about it, because I didn't want what they were saying to be true but it was. I later understood that the bullying was a lesson in understanding myself and what I brought to the world. Sometimes the meanest people can teach you the most important lessons. Sometimes it's important to accept hard truths about yourself in a way that doesn't diminish your value to the world. Everyone has something to offer. Find out your sources of strength and no one can ever take those away from you.

Teaching kids and even adults not to bully is very important too. Just don't say to the kid ignore it. Do something to stop it. Don't allow or participate in verbal or physical abuse. BTW bullying is not simply being insulted once, is being abused (be verbally or otherwise) repeatedly. To ignore it a few times is easy, but I never saw a single person to really stand months or years of gratuitous disrespect. We have to stop making it all about the victim. Abuse happens because we, as a society, allow it.

Exactly, something i learnt before I seen this video, by my self. I have told people if you are fat and someone calls you fat, then don't take it has offensive because you know you are fat so them saying it does not change that, if they said you are skinny but you know you are fat, then you know they are talking bs. Sure they do either as they are to honest or they do it because they are trying to trigger you. What you need to do is either any of these things - Insult them back Use banter Ignore (probably the best option, because they like attention) Everyone has an opinion like a arsehole.

The thing is, when this kids follow what he say they will block EVERY critic that comes at them... and they will never improve. Lets say a kid is fat and never care that others call him "fatty", he will stay fat when hes an adult, this will bring him only disadvanteges in solcial and health matters. When you cant spell, train spelling so nobody will ever call you stupid again and not block it away

So, you´re saying, fat means you´re unhealthy. I thought "fat" meant 'not skinny'. It´s all in the eyes of the beholder. And why should it bring him disadvantages if he believes in himself? I think you´re mixing up different things.

Also people need to remember (words should not equal physical violence) if one hits back because of what the others person says about them, then the person who said that thing, wins. Even if you beat them up, they got the reaction they wanted aka anger or upset.

It's easier said than done sometimes. What the teaching is missing is that the spiritual power of the Holy Spirit is real. Flesh has its limitations, but God always has a way out. God is a source of strength when we don't have any. "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:28-31 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

When the teacher countered the physical touch, I don't understand what is the verbal equivalent of that. I'd like help understanding that. And I wonder how this can be applied to adult conversations in important spheres like politics and healthcare and gun control. reds and blues are always shouting at each other and accusing the other of being evil. How can we fix that? On a more personal level I am confused by the teaching in this video. I can get insulted and I absolutely know it's not true, but it still bothers me and my instinct is to 'fight back'.
