Not sure who complained about only 5 days but clearly they don't meal prep. Most people who meal prep, meal prep for the work week and cook on their days off. So 5 days is standard.

  • @JeromeADavis

Madie maybe so but the video title clearly says full week. I didn't even notice until you said anything but I can see how somebody would be pissed off that 5 days is equated to a full week. There's no point of making full week capitalized if it's not really a full week. Your point is still received though.

This was wonderful! We can free up at least $5 for another week's shopping by not having to buy staples such as beans, lentils, rice, and oats because there were some left over. There is the money you need for some fresh veggies and fruit. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • @CrazzyLaddy69

You can do another $20 challenge. But also use what you had leftover from the week before. For example: You had a lot of leftover black beans and lentils. So this week you won't have to purchase them. Now you have a little more for more fruit and veggies.

I'm not vegan, but THANK YOU for coming up with something feasible on a small budget. Every now and again I incorporate more vegetarian and vegan dishes in my repertoire, and I respect your resourcefulness. It's annoying when someone says something like "Vegan's not expensive! 😆😆😆 yeah, good point, well like most fast food companies, in example, Wendy's making chili out of the extra cooked hamburgers at the end of the night for a fresh batch of chili the next day. It's better for them to use it to make something else that's tasty that offers something a bit different than most places do and it's not failed their company yet, it's been a huge seller and there's little to no waste. At least with this food prep you aren't getting any SAND filler in the mystery meat like you do at Taco Bell.

TIPS! (For if you don't have a food processor) If you put the pb in the bowl first and add in your liquid in steps while you mix it with a fork your mixture comes out smooth. 1.add on 2.add splash of liquid 3.mix 4.repeat steps 2 and 3 interchangeably until done (the peanut butter might seize up and become harder to mix. Idk why but it's done that to me before but just keep adding. Use water if you run out of your base or don't want to add to much of something like soy sauce, but want it thinner.) Also: Beans and lentils are easier to smash by hand when they're warm. (If you don't have a masher and your batch is too big to even bother trying to use a fork, use your hands!) (I've done it, it's not weird promise. These are back to basics my friends.)

I agree with you that most people have spices on hand, so I wouldn't have been upset if you had included some in your recipes. I think the thing about this challenge that people like best is seeing what food you can get for a certain amount of money and how creative you can be with that food. I'm going to generalize here, but most people have pantry items that do not get purchased every week and are then incorporated into meals.

Wow, Rose! That's pretty damn creative! I bet PB and Tomato tastes good! Sweet, salty and acidic....yum! I also 110% admire your commitment to the $20 only aspect; however, since most people aren't starting from scratch in their kitchens, maybe give yourself a little leeway next time? So, instead of actually having to spend some of the $20 on things you and most viewers might already own, like soy sauce and peanut/nut butter you could use it on fruits and veggies? Like a list of the ten most common spices/seasonings used. I think if you'd had nut butter, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, chilli powder, cumin, cinnamon, curry powder etc as a list of staples in your pantry, you could have gotten even more variety out of these already creative and yummy meals! I've seen other videos that take this approach and it helps stretch that budget a little further. Great video as always! Thanks! ❤

Lara Pierce whenever I see these types of videos and the KZreadr takes that approach, they get a lot of shit in the comment section from people who don't normally keep those things on hand.

I guess the KZreadrs who use pantry staples can suggest their viewers could add one pantry staple a week or one staple every other week or something until they had a collection of staples. I do like that Rose stuck with starting from scratch.

This is really cool!! Trying to get a job so I can afford my own groceries and finally go vegan. I'm part time vegan whenever I can afford it, but most of the time I have to eat what I can get. This gives me some ideas though since I already have most of these things in the kitchen! My favorite thing is buying a little pouch of taco seasoning and mixing it in with rice, beans, and veggies. Super easy and delicious!

Maddie Holt i used to eat more fats than carbs and rarely ever ate protein. i was incredibly overweight with those choices. since i decided to be vegan, i also decided to be more conscious about micronutrients and switched to a high carb, low fat diet and let me tell you, i dropped weight so quickly!! i know it’s different for everyone but i feel like the “carbs make you fat” narrative is just damaging.

Maddie Holt yes it had a decent amount of carbs but it also has a ton of protein and fat. So it’s balanced enough that it really shouldn’t cause problems because the protein and fat will give you lasting power.

Jess Personal The average working class person doesn’t have time to think all this shit out. Working class people work harder and earn less than most other people so they don’t have the time to worry about ethical consumption when they’re just trying to survive. Good vegan praxis means not being classist and dropping the politics of purity. How the hell do you expect your movement to amount to anything when you constantly alienate working class people by saying shit like this? Don’t take this as an attack or anything, I know when people cuss over the internet it makes it sound more intense than it needs to be but I’m not angry, I understand where you’re coming from. I wasn’t raised to think this way, I learned it because I needed to if I wanted to live in the real world and talk about veganism in the real world I needed to learn empathy and have an understanding of the circumstances and societal barriers that lead people to consume the way they do. Fuckin go watch mexie, she knows more about this than I do. Build solidarity with your working class family, friends and coworkers. Discourage elitism in your vegan social circles. That’s all u gotta do.

I just found this video and it was really helpful! I would love to see a slightly less low budget one. Assume you already have spices, syrups etc in your cupboard (as long as they're easy to get hold of and fairly inexpensive). Make the budget $30 or $40 a week. Not so much meal prep all at once, because I prefer fresher food, but maybe clips of how you cook and prep throughout the week. I would love to see that. If you have already made this video, sorry!
