Van Life: Our Last RV Rental. Period. The End.

We really enjoyed the Class B #VanLife and can see why so many people do it! The rental process however is another story and this episode is the straw that broke the camel's back. We're still excited to share motorized RVing this season so stay tuned for a new plan and a lot more adventure!

Mistakes happen and we've made our fair share, from broken awnings to broken windows-but they are easier to handle when it's our own fault. We really enjoyed the Class B and can see why so many people like "Van Life." However, the process of renting RVs has been riddled with small issues that make the experience difficult and take some of the "magic" away from the trial. Just in case there is any confusion, we wanted to rent from a private owner and thought we did. The reviews were decent and we did enjoy the Travato van. When we arrived, there were 20+ RVs in the backyard. We were trying to avoid rental companies, but it's getting hard to figure out by the listing alone. The black talk valve was left open and it's shocking the cap did such a great job not showing a problem before... well, you know what happened 💩😳😡

Sad to see Trish hurting from the migraine and glad she got feeling better. On another note there are pranksters that go through campsites at night and pull the black tank valves open. I always check mine before pulling the cap off it’s a crappy way to learn not to. Camp-on ⛺️

Things I learned from your National Lampoon Vacation. 1. Don’t rent an RV. 2. If you have a flicker of doubt, default to rule one. 3. Even the best plans can fail. 4. When failure comes, hope your significant other is there to lift you. I’m amazed how well you guys function as a team, last rental it was Trish that was down with Mark salvaging the trip. This trip it was Mark that was down with Trish doing the lifting, great couple. BTW, your black tank accident reminded me of the saying, “tragedy is me getting a paper cut, comedy is a person falling into a cesspool”, sorry 😂, not sorry Mark.
I love the comment “I cook with love”. I make my husband’s tea every morning. He often takes the first sip and says “So nice, tea made with love”. He also makes me breakfast from time to time, which I LOVE!!!!

Mark: “I’m going to have to take my skin off!” I can’t breathe from laughing!
I’m glad that I’m paranoid, I always double check the waste valve and never, never, never use a hose by a dump station for fresh water. I even bleach spray the water hookup at the campsite and bleach wipe inside campground bathrooms. I know it’s overboard, but working 35 years at a pharmaceutical company engrained certain cleanliness protocols lol.

This might be my favourite episode. I love the reverse order editing, and of course The Incident That Shall Not Be Spoken Of. If that's Mark blowing a gasket, I need to take some anger management lessons from him.
On the road again, my fav ppl, listening to rants about rentals and dumping and ofcourse the music. As always thank you.❤
If I ever rent, I intend to make the person handing off the keys, physically demonstrate the FULL dumping procedure. Of course, as I stand WAY back and watch.

Awesome.
My first rental almost turned me off on getting an RV. The "leather" was peeling on the seats...smelled like urine...AC didn't work and it was 95 degrees and there was a soft area in floor that I thought was going to cave in. I realized I wasn't going to get the "real" experience by renting. Bought/ordered a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite with theatre seating and twin beds. Husband and I have enjoyed our camper but now in the market for a Class C. Want to take our 2 small grandchildren on trips but need something with auto everything and easier to park and set up at our age. Thanks for taking one for the team by renting the motorized RV's so we can get a feel for it. I hate renting anything...hotel rooms, RV's...condos...houses...etc. Thanks and take care!
Guys, thank you for the honesty sharing how it goes, even on the hardest days. Charlie’s interlude about ‘Dad’, was PRICELESSS! Nicely done, especially in lieu of the ‘worst’ event. I will now ALWAYS look at my own valves before pulling the cap just because …. Looking forward to the review of van life!!
Dad traveled from Tahoe to Prescott at 90? What a man! See why you are a strong "go getter".
This is awesome and I can't wait to see what's coming next!

Been watching your channel since the beginning and one of the things that has always impressed me is how your family handles adversity. Whether it was your flat tire when you first started your journey or one of the many challenges along the way you've taught us all how to handle the RV Journey with a positive attitude. Keep up the great work!!

I loved Charlie's additional information. Hilarious!! I have learned to always check my valves whenever I stop somewhere, before I leave my campsite and when I set-up my campsite. Was traveling, stopped at a store a some jerky pulled both my valves. Didn't realize it until I pulled into a full hook-up site and went to set-up. When everything came out I thought my lines where broken!! I was pretty new and didn't realize the handles has been pulled. Luckily the couple parked next to me had witnessed everything and came over to help. What a blessing they were to me. They are still good friends to this day.
Your "mishaps" teach us what could go wrong. loved this vlog...thank you
When Charlie did the narration of the black tank issue, I had tears in my eyes from laughing. I have owned a Travato 59K since 2017, and I still love most of it. I've only had small issues.
@jabreck1934

I purchased a new 59K in 2017 also. I have received offers, in writing, to purchase my van for what I paid for it. From the RV dealership and the Dodge dealership. They are currently selling at twice as much of what we paid. Full-time, four years, I love it. The van easily tows a 6 x 10 enclosed cargo trailer. It is important to get an actual spare tire. Even if you don’t always carry it with you., you always have access to one. I just picked one up at my local tire guy for $320. Same exact tire with stock rim. Open Businesses and assistance is not always available
Love your videos ... and since I lived in Flagstaff for 10 years... LOVE the country. Jerome WAS a ghost town when I was last there.... we snuck into the mine shafts which were empty to explore. Love how you keep positive despite things that aren't so...... can't wait to see what's next!
I am still learning from your videos! I think what I’m learning this season is, do not rent an RV. Period. You’re still putting out good content for me to learn what not to do. Keep up the good work!

Been binge watching from the beginning for month’s. Love that Charlie is now narrating part of the adventure!!
This is my absolute favorite. Have watched twice. Every single moment is fabulous. Thank you for your work. You have so inspired my husband and I.
Marc, I am impressed at how well you kept your composure during that mishap, you guys are great!
Wow, thanks for taking one for the team to show us real life! Stunning photography with the drone footage. Love watching you every week.
Same thing happened to me when I offloaded my sewage the first time. Thankfully it was just grey water but it taught me a lesson about checking my valves before removing the cap.
Great video, beautiful scenery and thank you for taking me on your journey..stay safe
Can't wait for your tour of the van. Very nice so far.
…..that’s why I installed the Valterra gate valve on the end of my sewer pipe…..I KNOW that when it’s closed, I can safely take my cap off without worrying about “spilling the beans “…….travel safe everyone !!!
Charlie is the best narrator out there. Only he can describe a Poopsie 💩 with class. Add check the dump leavers to the checklist.
Nice video as always, love those smiles at the end.
OK - This was my favorite video ever! I laughed. I cried. I loved the scenery. I loved the adventure. I felt your pain...Can't wait to see more next week.
Been there , done that . After three days of using our trailer , I got ready to drain the tanks . Only the last time I dumped , some someone (me) did not close the valves . Funny now , won't make that mistake again . You know what happens when you shove the cap back on to the outlet with full tanks and the valves open ? It It sprays in a 360 degree circle . There is no where to run !
You talk about taking one for the team, well how about a "two" for the team. OMGosh you handled that sooo admirably. Your videos are A-ONE ++ and always make me smile. Thank you for all you do! Jim.
Mark and Trish, I have found your videos a few weeks ago and have just so enjoyed your trips. I have traveled across the country in my expedition with a nice mattress in the back which I so enjoyed but recently purchased an iPod. The more I watch and laugh with you guys the more I want to just get in my expedition with my AirPod and go go go. This has been the best reality show ever
Love the video, music, you guys sharing the adventure of the trials and tribulations of rentals. Marc you made a great recovery from a crappy day and Trish what a get job of support to Marc. Cause you could fry an egg on his head he was so mad about that mess. Thanks for the super video. I must confess Marc I laughed my butt off at the emotion not the mess.
Nice Video as always......Can't wait for the cookbook Trish!!! Have an awesome week. See you next Sunday!!!
This was one of your funnier videos of late! This is always our concern on renting RV's, but it seems like a good way to figure out what you really want. Thanks for this series.
You two are genuine yet exhilarating entertaining. You're easy in the eyes but stimulating on the grey matter. I don't think you could put out a better video. Kudos.
Great video, we have a 21’ Roadtrek Van and have the “Van Shuffle” through the tight aisle down! We love how we can park it so many places. This must have been quite an adjustment for you. Us Van users like to say we live outside the van so space isn’t an issue. Our refrigerator is larger and it is up higher which makes it easier. Storage is limited so you must love and use everything you pack! Thanks for sharing your journey!🥰

@@RVFishingAdventures it backs right up. Put this one on a 2022 Volvo chasing which helped with weight and wheelbase.
I can so relate to Marc’s experience. When we first got our used Winnebago, my daughter and a friend drove it back home. I had purchased a Valterra valve to add as I had seen on many RV videos suggested, but when I removed the cap I was accosted by the most vile surprise. The unfortunate design on the Minnie Winnie is the black tank and valve are on the opposite side so the handle runs all the way across the rig, and is difficult to get closed. That end of line valve is the best add on ever.
So, what i have learned from your series is: check the entire rig out before getting into the driver's seat. Switches, hookup connections, hookup connections, hookup connections, did I mention hookup connections. Thank you for the series and happy travelling!
Reminded me of the movie RV. Loved the Charlie input.
Mark, I admire your self-control in the midst of such high emotion. Sorry for the horrible experience.
Enjoyed the part that Charlie was in. So sorry about the black tank but great job at fixing it up. But out side of that looks to me your enjoying live. Awesome that you spent time with family and Marc's Dad's birthday. Stay safe and thanks.
Can't quite wrap my mind around the failure to close the black tank valve after dumping. But you guys are pure joy to watch.
I love you guys. I can tell using other peoples stuff... even in your other videos is not your style. You take such good care of your stuff. My heart goes out to you Marc... and you Trish for keep Marc together. 💖🥰
My wife and I have been watching your channel for weeks! Really enjoying the binge watching. Thank you so much for taking the time to film and edit your videos. You have a wonderful family! We will be purchasing a Class A Motorhome shortly and its nice to see you go thru all the different class of RV. Keep up the post and we will keep watching. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing guys! I did laugh a little, but keep on keeping on. Looking forward to seeing next week.
Thanks for the Charlie cut in. As for the horror of it all, confirms walking back to get your stinky slinky wasn't so bad that time you had it escapeon the highway. Can't wait for the review.
Years ago before the people stampede to Prescott we moved there and purchased a house in Chino Valley. I love Watson lake and it was famous for it's Crappie fishing. Then it went dry and we moved and have never been back so seeing water in Watson Lake was a good thing.

I absolutely laughed my head off with this one. Not because of what happened with the tank, but rather the way Mark reacted. Mark, you are really funny when you are mad! Anyway, sorry that happened, but this video made my night.

Love the video and thanks for the heads up about renting.
You finally got a Class B. Lol. My wife and I have been watching all your seasons from the very beginning. We are so appreciative of all your motivation. I retired in Jan 2020 and we got a Coachmen Galleria in March. We set out from NJ in April and are going cross country getting to visit relatives and seeing the sights on the way. We got our KYD summer to remember shirts delivered to my mother-in-law in Scottsdale. We were just in your neck of the woods in Flagstaff and stayed in Dead horse ranch state park in Cottonwood. Thanks again for everything. You are our inspiration. Maybe we'll see you on the road.

We experienced the dreaded "runaway black tank" situation before. I will never ever forget how the valve handle is supposed to properly appear PRIOR to emptying the tank!! I saw Big Truck Big RV reviewing the add-on secondary tank valve, to avoid such an experience. I can still remember seeing/smelling the whole thing. New skin, new shoes... so bad..
