ℹ️ About the Episode
If you've been with us for any amount of time, you know Trish does most of the driving. She enjoys towing with our Super Duty ... but when it comes to driving the Bird, her response was clear, "I'm out!" Driving large equipment does take some getting used to and we receive countless emails about how to help a spouse become more comfortable with driving a motorized RV or towing. Perhaps we should have followed some of the tips below so Trish would be more comfortable with driving the Bird! In this episode, we travel Route 66 from the mid-point in Adrian, TX to the Blue Hole in New Mexico and then to Santa Fe. We visit the decommissioned Musical Highway before making our way to the Petrified Forest National Park and then a particular corner in Winslow Arizona. Join us next week for the season finale of Route 66 in Santa Monica California.

I’m not sure we ever had a complete understanding for how it is to travel with Marc W Griswold, but when an inanimate plastic figurine takes its own life that speaks volumes.

I can't argue with that point!
In one episode Marc went from looking like a 80’s television cop, to a truck driver and then a retired artist who’s had the same hat for 30 years 🤣🤣
Trish, you rock. Total respect for recognizing you don’t want to drive that vehicle. Enjoy your journey!
Route 66 has been a blast and excited to see Trish drive the bird! Love yall 3000!
tks guys now I know never to travel Rt 66 after seeing the most longest boring road :)
“Come on Gary, get your head glued on straight, Trish is nervous driving, Charlie got the poop scared out of him, Marc can’t keep track of the car and Caleb, well he’s being Caleb, somebody’s gotta keep this show on the road” 🤣🤣🤣 I’m willing to bet the car “rolling” backwards was Calebs idea 🧐 Love the flashbacks, crazy how fast kids grow up !!! Awesome as always 😍😍😍😍😍

The first time the car rolled back was totally unplanned. The second time was Caleb's idea. Too funny.
124 channels in my subscription list...Trish, Marc, feel free to check that number but the number ONE for content creation and everything....this one. Just so good every week, addictive.
My wife and I were yelling at Mark… “don’t go under the bridge mark!!!… no why would you do that.” Then you said you weee going back under and we both almost had a heart attack! 😂
I’m sorry, but every time I see the mustache, all I can think of is Ned Flanders from the Simpson 🤣🤣🤣 but I love!
This turned out to be a really funny video guys. The car leaving on it's own was hysterical. Then Gary loosing his head. I nearly lost it when Trish was doing CPR on a headless Gary. It was beautiful watching the sunset as you headed ever west into the night. It got kind of silly as the evening wore on but I've learned that's what happens after a long day of driving. This was a super great video guys. Sorry it didn't go well for Trish driving. A loose steering wheel can be a bummer. Looking forward to Gary getting his head back. haha
Trish driving the bird is me 100%. Drive for a few miles, get freaked out by semis and concrete barriers and say “I’m out.” Too funny.
It takes a really strong person to just say No!! Good for you Trish!!

It's important to know your limitations. Old units like this are exhausting. You are correcting and over correcting all the time. I had a 37 ft class A over 24 years ago. We had to install a steer straight product but driving was exhausting.
Lots of people “standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona, such a fine site to see.” Was there “a girl my Lord in that flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look you?” You guys “take it easy “
OMG!!Carson is soon handsome! He looks just like his beautiful mother!
Great CPR Tricia! I am sure Gary will make a full recovery.
As a kid very little kid I was driving our semi trucks and backing them out of the garage and warming them up for my dad before we would make a load so I could not wait to drive our wanderlodges on the actual highway so soon as I got my permit at 14 daddy let me drive 100 or so miles while mom was taking a nap. That was the coolest thing to me and very special that daddy believed in me enough to trust me with his pride and joy that he worked so hard for. That was my first time and been driving them every since. Y’all be safe.
Look’n like a real bus driver with that Blue Bird hat there Marc!
I am convinced that Caleb could do a multi-act play about Jimmy Stewart. Like Hal Holbrooke did on Mark Twain.
Omgosh....I literally peed my pants laughing!!!! First of all.....I've been with you guys since episode one! So thank you for those flash backs!! Precious! That low bridge...Mark...."we're definitely more than 11' 2"??? ". I just could not stop laughing!!! Another classic....right up there with the poop hose dragging down the road! Trish....you did real good trying to drive that thing honey!! Proud of you! And that Airstream/Daydream reflection! Spectacular!

When Trish is done, she is done! lol
OMG! The Subaru slowly fading away. AAAAAGGGH! LOLOLOLOL
We took a trip July 2020 with 5 of our grandchildren from St. Louis, Missouri to Washington State. We hit a lot of the attractions on Route 66 and this was one of them. Great memories…
LOL, seems that Charlie is Not convinced that moving from "His Spot" is a good idea. Too Cute.
Oh my gosh, the title alone is hysterical..lol! Trish, you are a sister when it comes to driving an RV. I can only do as much as 7 miles..lol . Funny thing, I don't have an RV yet but I'm watching RV you tubes non stop. I tested drive a class A motorhome with V8 engine and it runs smooth like butter. I can't wait to buy it and drive 7 miles of it. My husband is already nervous and having severe anxiety.
"I can eyeball it. " such a guy
OMG...there was so much going on in this video...so help me! I always look forward to yall's videos, and laugh out loud often. BUT this video...Gary loosing his head ....I almost lost it! And then Trish preforming CPR on Gary, a valiant effort I must say! And Mark's reaction as the car was rolling away....LOL! Thank you for always making it fun!
“Would you look at that, just look at it!” 😂 😂 😂
Get Your Kicks On Route 66! We've been up and down it a many times and the Wife and I are both Native Los Angeles Californians! Now we are Native Northern Wine Country Californians! Our favorite spot on Route 66 is Flagstaff Arizona! We attend South Dakota's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally every year since 2005 and for 5 years coming from Granada Hills, CA, (suburb of L.A.) We would always stay at Black Bart's RV Park and Dinner Theater for at least 2 or 3 days and ride our Harley Davidson FatBoy to Sedona, Jerome. Prescott and back via Oak Creek Canyon!
I think you should bring back Carson’s angry food reviews 🤣. Love the flashbacks 😎
Well we didn't fair so well with the Graffiti bridge on 17th Ave in Pensacola, FL! Lost the A/C unit on our Class A rental, and ended up in Milton for 6 weeks waiting to get it repaired. Bridge is infamous in the area for some such accidents. There was no sign giving the height, and the sign "Low Bridge" was covered with graffiti. We met many RVers as they came and went from the campground. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. And before the pandemic! Such is life! It made for interesting and entertaining fodder for my husband's travel blog for the folks back home and around the world. ;) HA! And I just remembered we got 26" of snow within hours of returning it when we got home!! Like Tricia, we were so glad to get home!
So much entertainment, can't even put how much unlimited value! You have filmed this with so much humor, affection, love (even with Trish at the wheel). Bless you for giving us the blessings of Route 66 through the Bluebird way ....... 🚌
I was just at the Blue Hole last year scuba diving. I can't believe he jumped into that water more than once without a wetsuit on... that water is COLD!

@@KeepYourDaydream 80ft to the bottom of the hole, 62 degrees year round! Hello from Show Low, neighbor!
Oh Trish. Thank you for allowing your experience to be shown. It made you more REAL. I have sold my sticks & bricks and will depart with a 32 ft. fiver, solo, later this year, (haven't pulled it yet). My previous experience was with a 16 ft. TT in 1979 when I headed out full time. So, I whole heartedly relate to your recent experience as I attempt to reassure myself that it will be OK. PS. I stayed in a KOA, in Selma NC, 1979 with full hookups for $7.35 per night !
Would ya look at that, just look at it… what a fantastic throwback to old KZread :)
Wooooo Hoooooo YELLOWSTONE!!!! I vote you guys do a Yellowstone review video! I heard it! I heard it! OMG you guys need a show on the Magnolia Network! I swear... the family memories you are creating are FOREVER!!!! Will you do it until you are O L D ??? It’s been a great ride on 66 with you guys
🤣🤣🤣Gary's still bobbling, such a fine sight to see. Dying🤣🤣🤣
Not gonna lie, one of the things I always loved about the channel was Trish breaking the stereotype that the man does all the driving.
Gary finally lost his head after miles and miles standing on the Dashboard. lol
"Gaaaaary! Dammit" Best line ever!! Thanks Trish😂😂
I think Gary losing his head was a foreshadowing of the too low bridge! Glad the same thing didn't happen to The Bird!! Great episode, but u need to keep the camera on Caleb when he's doing a bit. Comedy gold! 😃
Trish, when you are driving the Bird, your left knee should line up with the centerline. Just keep that thought and you will get comfortable with your position in your lane
It’s ok Trish. Charlie needs his seat mate.
Poor Gary! No shame in needing to get used to a loose steering wheel, it’s upright and big and loose. I took our rig out on our small country roads to learn its feel. Plus our Expedition can really book it, I have to watch it’s speed. One day we will do Rt. 66. Currently parked at our daughters’ house until I graduate with a Masters in Nursing. Can’t wait to hit the road again in May.
Driving our diesel pusher I put a piece of tape on the dash and used it to align rig with the white line on the road, looking at mirror is a distraction....
Looks like gary lost his head over this trip lol lol .......👍👍
Mark looks like a man's man with the trucker hat and that mustache. 💪✊🏿🇺🇸💯
I am 76 yrs old. I remember going to the petrified Forrest when I was about 13 yrs old. I could not understand the idea of being petrified. Nice to see it thru you these may years later.
You mentioned Yellowstone. My sister’s son plays the judge in Season 4 - last episode 😊 His name is Pat Skipper

Awesome!
I just wanted to pass along a quick tip on driving a bigger RV. When driving down the road, in your lane you will see where the road is worn down more(lighter) from other truck tires and it is darker in the middle of those tracks. Just align yourself and the steering wheel to be on the left side of the dark portion of the road and it will help you stay in your lane especially at night. I hope this helps Trish out and she can be more relaxed and enjoy the journey!!!!
We totally understand Trish your reluctance to drive the bird on a highway. We have a 1989 Fleetwood class a that steers in a similar fashion. However, the big Ford 460 block gives us plenty of heat! LOL great video
Many fond memories of Santa Fe with my wife.. 👍
Caleb is a rock star!
Poor Gary…the way his head still bobbled next to his body had me 💀 😂😂
Kudos to Tricia for trying and being a responsible driver. It is super stressful to drive under the blanket of fear - no bueno. The first I would have to have would be a booster seat (I am down to 5'). It is a climb into our Ford 250 (Trailer pkg.), but once in the seat, I can adjust the pedals, seat, steering wheel, mirrors & radio to drive safely and happily. I love to shop for Turquoise jewelry at Governor's Plaza from the locals. Tell Gary it isn't worth losing his head over...!
That car museum! More Caleb please. Charlie is so cute when he sits way up front. Umm, hey we are drifting away from you! Lovin all the flash backs. But wow, you are making me hungry.
Oh poor Gary he almost made it without serious injury 😢 You will live to ride another day 😁😁🥰🥰Safe Travels guy's ❤
Fun, fun, fun!
now I do love the color scheme on the Bird. that is the right hat to have a cigar, please have a premium cigar in your next video wearing that hat.Pismo Paul
Great video! Love Sundays and love yall!!
Your caption at the start of this show was Santa Fe NM, but I didn't see you get off I-40 west, Albuquerque is how it is spelled!! LOL Yes, the musical highway worked good about 5 years ago now the grooves are filled with tar....like the rest of our horrible roads! I love your show!
I have noticed lately that when all three of you are standing together and your talking, your son has a lot of face action going on. It's like he is enjoying himself in his own head.. lol too funny!

Lol. That's probably true!
That old car reminded me that my grandmother drove from Killeen, Texas to Phoenix to Corvallis, Oregon BY HERSELF in a Model A convertible at the age of 16. She was following my grandfather from base to base as he trained in WWII before he went overseas. She has a lot of good stories about it.
Charlie is smart, he wanted to leave his own petrified log. 🤣
Oh my goodness! Loved this week’s video! ❤️
Painted Hills in Oregon state is awesome!
Great episode! So many hilarious moments!
I'm glad to see "the Bird" made it back to Flagstaff in one piece. Too bad, the same can't be said for Gary. "WHAM, his capa is *DETATED* from his head!" -- Michael Scott
LOL! Laughed so hard when Trish started giving Gary CPR. That was great! Today I went to Atlanta and show your sticker!! I was so excited I have to share it on the Gram. Great video family.
You guys are killing me, seriously! my side is splitting. At least Gary was standing up most of the way this time. LOL

Hello KYD Family!!! Happy Sunday! Your channel is awesome!
There is a lot of Route 66 things in Albuqueruque. There is infact a Lumber Jack style of statue the same as Gary. As a Albuqueruqe resident we would take a drive out on Route 66 and drive down the musical highway, it was cool, just roll down the windows and it is easly heard.
Thank you for sharing your experiences ♥️ I enjoyed this and wish I could do it
another awesome video, looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoy the flashbacks. Great episode!
That felt like a road trip. Thx.

Marc, the stash with the baseball hat for some reason reminded me of Mario brothers. LOL. The cap at the end was much better.

So awesome to see Carson again. Miss the days of having all three kiddos crammed into the backseat. Such a blessing that you took the risk and took them on an amazing journey as a family. Memories none of your kids will ever forget. You guys missed La Posada Hotel in Winslow!!!! Its a must see but most of all you need to read up on Fred Harvey and the Harvey Girls beforehand. Trisha could do a whole series on just the Fred Harvey Hotels alone since its around FOOD and hospitality and it revolutionized train travel in the US. Hope Gary gets his noggin put back on.
