Van Life | Alex Honnold
Ғылым және технология
Have you ever wondered what it's like to live in a van? Where do you store things? How do you stay powered? What do you do when you need a bathroom? Professional rock climber Alex Honnold takes us through the van that he calls home. His 2002 Ford Econoline E150 serves as his bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, gym, and storage room. It has racked up over 170,000 miles and still "trucks along quite nicely", according to Honnold. Watch and learn how he turned his van into a home, it might just inspire you to do the same.

"diamond studded on the bottom, I keep my diamonds hidden." haha I think Alex and I would get along.
He maybe living in a van, but compared to my boring ass 9 to 5 daily life...I ENVY HIM
Alex is living the dream.
It's no wonder you climb so well, getting all that pump on in your home gym. Sweet van
He makes me appreciate the real things in life. This kind of man makes me not want/need a big home anymore lol I want to be more practical
The song captures the vibe of this whole video perfectly.
I just about fell out of my chair when he said "this is my diamond studded, imported linoleum floor" O my haha.
this man is truly an inspiration. his climbing is beautiful
Alex is fucking awesome.
I like your sense of humor.
This is so awesome. He seems to be such a nice person.
Nice to see there are a few people remaining that know what it is to be self-sufficient, and live simply, instead of spoiled and/or full of debt to live the high life.
I was driving home yesterday from a three day (snowy) Sequoia backpack trip and my girlfriend started talking about how cool it would be to get a van and just take off. I told her about this stud rock climber who does just that and gave her the Honnold story. Good timing to see this clip today. Might be a sign.
He lives with the freedom that us everyday working schmoes envy. Sweet ride.
Alex, You reveal lots about yourself here. Thanks for taking us along.
Love this video! Definitely inspired us to live the van life!

Since you have to lay diagonally in the bed to sleep anyway. Is there a way to install anchors in the roof and you can string up a hammock? I have seen that on some other van life projects. (Just a thought for you)

Thank you for the video .love the setup that you've done to your van :) I have a question if you don't mind Which is better a Van or an SUV, in regards of (security wise, camping , traveling, space "for bed , storage, cooking...etc", mileage, gas usage , rough roads) ?
The clean simplicity is awesome.
Great stuff! I love my Goal Zero products and what Alex does!
Nice editing. Short & sweet!
It’s great to see this time capsule of the journey from the past into the present. Good one guys🎬 I have an awesome goal zero small grid for my phone etc👍🏾⚡️
I'm a teen girl climber who is totally obsessed with Alex (I'm not kidding I was in Yosemite yesterday and I was running around Camp 4, looking for him) and I can't wait till I grow up, get into and out of college, buy a van, and set off across America! Kudos to Alex for inspiring me ;)

Well your probably 18 by now. I'm sure Alex wouldn't mind keeping you in his panel van.
Great tour, great use of space, every nook and cranny. But, best of all was the dry sence of humor, that was really funny, thanks for sharing, makes me miss my MarkIII Hightop Conversion Chevy Van. Mobile Home. Blast from the Past..
Love this man! Inspirational
Great setup.
Great Van. Love it! Cheers Phil
This is a nice rig! I've been living in a "79 VW bus for like, 10 years now. Unfortunately not very good for getting to high altitude locations. So I got a "02 Ford Escape for getting to more mountainous areas.
Inspirational! I wish we had a bed in the van!
Cool van man , wish I could do something like this with my Vauxhall but its always full of RC air planes and Hexacopters and Quads , but very cool mate
That floor description is gold, ha!
Fantastic channel. Well done! We really liked it.
Awesome stuff man.
Great entertainment. This is my foyer, this is my bathroom, this is my garage.... lol
This is so amazing
Extremely cool. I wonder who has this van now that Alex has another.
That was excellent.
Fun video, really loved it!
his new one looks so much better!
what an awesome life.
I love him so much it hurts.
Not only have I always thought he sort of looks like Nathan Fielder, but at 1:34 when he talks about his floor, it just sounds like something Nathan Fielder would say lmao
Very nice Alex. I was looking into 4X4 vans but they are wayyyy expensive. If you have the bucks check out Sportsmobile in central California. Have fun my friend and stay safe. Love the videos. Keep em coming!!
We are all so hooked to our possessions that we just don't really need.
Legend! Climb on Arnold.
Very cool & very clean place for a guy.
i love him so much... one of climber that i look up to beside sharma..
alex is my idol. coolest person ever.
A Carbon Monoxide detector needs to be mounted much higher up. It rises so by the time that thing goes off the van will be almost full of it. IE you won't wake up. You need it on the ceiling.

Actually it is relatively the same density. Convection mixes the gases within the enclosed space and combustion byproducts like CO generally rise due to HEATING, like his stove, not by being a less dense compound. Two sensors are better than one! :) One high, one low. Also one could fail and he would not know, he just would not wake up.
Alex Honnold seems to be like the coolest dude ever.

You say that and there's Cedar right there in the video...
Cute video! A lot easier for a guy to do (I like the idea of it, but I'd be terrified) Nice!
Nice one dude..
I'd like this. Not a climber, but I want to travel the US fly fishing in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. This would be perfect.
awesome and funny!
Nice job
very awesome
How did you make the divider curtain? It looks great!
With a big smile, I will be one of you soon enough. I like your lay out with the bed in the back. I cant see working 8-12 hours a day and going to the gym for couple of hours and returning to a apartment at 600-700 (Cheap one) dollars a month to sleep. Things that rattle my head are urban stealth yet camp ground fun. Don't want the police knocking on the door asking for doughnuts before the sun comes up if you know what I mean. Anyway great job on the van......
This is genuinly hilarious!
Very cool goal zero battery. What refrigerator or freezer was Alex using? Thanks!
This video was awesome! keeep em comin!!:)
Thumbs up ! ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
Simple. Gets the job done! :)
love!
love alex
I think this van sees some action ;-)
Right on guy. I am doing something similar but for a Shipping Container. Have the Goal Zero Yeti. Thanks for the video. You rock.

Awesome! :)
Cool I love it it's has everything you need that's all you want
what a legend
i love it
Where did you find the chest refrigerator I've been looking everywhere for one like yours?
Hello Alex have a question for you comma very interested in knowing where did you purchase or where can I get, that gigantic drawer in the back of your van that pulls out? That is exactly what I need for my van I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 van and that's what I've been looking for but can't seem to find them anywhere
wow! great
nice battery/solar rig.
Alex, should build a pull up bar on the side of his van.

We need way more diamond plated flooring in our van...
Respect
I've watched Goal Zero's van life video series with Alex, Brittany, Jonathan, Travis...Pretty cool. But living in High Sierra bear country, I'm still trying to figure out how to customize a rig, and not have it smell like food/kitchen. It seems these would be the first rigs that bears target in Yosemite or Mammoth. Perhaps a stripper version of the kitchen is preferred. Any thoughts?
Dan - sick van! My girlfriend and I are getting ready to take our new pop-up camper on a 3-month long trip with mountain bikes through BC, WA, OR and CA. Is Alex using Goal Zero solar panels or does he have a different setup charging his generator?
@goalzero
9 жыл бұрын
they are GZ panels. We have Boulder 90's that are not on our website yet but you can call in to get more info on them. We will be putting them on our site soon.
Now that I see what wonders you're able to do with such a tight space, I ask myself what you could do with a larger area in a big bus! Read Ken Kesey's, Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, if you get a chance. Now that was a bus trip (no pun intended) and a half and boy were they ever creative.
the only thing i always wonder is how do you live in a van in the winter like im living in canada how do you heat that witout starting the van for heat ??
"This is my floor. I imported it from Italy. It's diamond-studded on the bottom." 😂 lmao, this guy...
"I keep the diamonds hidden.." That really made me laugh!
Nice ! I am thinking to buy a van and do the same thing... now question, how tall are you if you can't quite fit in the bed?
Cool set up. Is the interior set-up included in the $10,000 price tagged on the van at the beginning of the video, or is that just the cost of the van itself?
@goalzero
10 жыл бұрын
Yo pirate, that was just for the Van itself the build out cost a few more thousand.
Okay I get it when you say this is where all the magic happens you mean the magic hand trick. That's why your gym is one Pacific type of equipment making your hand stronger to keep that grip
Talk about efficiency.
Cool
nice
I want to get a van and do this. I would just have to figure out where to put my hang board.
Where can I find the forearm grip workout thing he has. Can't seem to find them anywhere. Anyone know what it is called, and, or, where to get one?

This video has inspired me! I'm curious, how many people can you comfortable (and legally) fit into this van? Do you know about what the MPG is with all that stuff? Was the $10,000 price tag before or after you tricked it out to live in it?
question... how tall are you?. I'm wondering if this conversion would work for me .
I want one
