Always & still in love with the clever, whitty, charming, talented, fun-loving Diamond Dave.... he has a mind of his own & utilizes it well. Thank you for the 80's as you made it beyond enjoyable.

I've heard lots of interviews from Van Halen - they're as fun as listening to their music!

It’s great to hear these again...I always looked forward to Rockline because back in those days it was all we had to connect with our favorite bands. I had a bunch of cassettes of all these. Who knows where they are now?

Someone should have played this interview for Kurt Cobain in the 90's to remind him that music was fun.

Imagine the dysfunctionality in that band having to put up with not only Dave but Alex and Eddie who by their own right were complete handful especially when they went through their drug and heavy drinking days. Anybody that's ever worked with the band trust I've heard said that it was almost impossible to get them to do anything or get them on the same page, even Wolfie said recently that's why he doesn't think a tribute show for his dad will happen because everybody in that whole camp is so dysfunctional, and he made it a point to say he meant EVERYBODY.

6:43 is pretty funny..... 40 years old seems like forever to get to and a really old age when your 20.

One things for sure, if you ever expected any thing personal, an enlightening thought, an insight into music or anything relatively serious this was not the band to ask.

There was no film in the camera when they took pix of the audience. They did that just to get the audience hyped up. DLR made himself look good by making the audiences feel like they were the stars.

I'm only 2 questions in but they're kindof being dicks. I'm a huge VH fan too. Mostly Roth era. Alex is obviously wasted and they're being pretty disrespectful to these people calling in. Seems out of character. I'll listen on to see if it gets better.

They’re not being disrespectful they’re having fun and yes they are high as a kite. Alex was giving a humorous answer on how to be a good drummer on stage. This was early Van Halen. They were wild and had fun but they weren’t rude or disrespectful to people. They joked all the time. Alex was wild before he got sober. After the 5150 album he became sober and you can see a change in the way he approached interviews. More serious but you would still see these same sense of humor he has here come out at times. Also when he was around Dave he really turned it up a notch because he knew there was tension in the band. He hung out with Dave more than anyone else because he was trying to keep the band together. That was something Alex had said in an interview. Listen to the rest of the interview. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it if you keep in mind that’s who they were back then and no one took offense to it. =\/|-|= Forever!!!
