Van Build Series - Promaster Bed Framing, Solar Pre-wiring, Vinyl Corner Panels for van life

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Every van build and van conversion has a number of small jobs that while tremendously important don’t warrant a complete video. A future happy van life rests on getting the details right. In this video we share 3 such van build projects. First we explain how we planned our bed and then built the frame. Our van is a dodge promaster, and unlike a Mercedes sprinter or ford transit van the Promaster is wide enough sleep across the van. By turning the bed 90 degrees we pick up about 20 inches of usable cabin space for cabinets and other storage. Which makes the interior of the promaster seem bigger that a sprinter or transit the same size. However, making the cabin bigger makes the garage smaller. And we are faced with the reality that bikes we want to carry with us are wider than the bed is long. Watch and see how we solve this van design challenge. The second part of the van build video details how we planned for making it possible for the roof top solar panels to talk to the charge controller without knowing what we are using for either. BUT, we need to get at least this part of the job done before we finish the inside of the van. There is also a bonus idea that we’ve never seen before. And lastly we share a scribing / fitting technique for difficult pieces. This is the hardest fit challenge we’ve had so far.

Those panels will need to be removable for maintenance of your tail lights.

Hi Shari - you are totally right - and they are. In fact every wall panel and cabinet liner in the van is removable in case I ever need to run wires or something ....... Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment..... Dave

Hi! How did you attach those center beams from Ikea? Were they the right length? Online I see they were 79". Did you cut them down?

Hi Kandi - thanks for watching and commenting. The Ikea beams are extendable - they come as 2 pieces that slide together (already assembled). You can easily make them the size you want. They are designed to fit into a metal clip, but I couldn't order that on line so I simply let them rest on the plywood blocks. It was really easy... you'll have no trouble. Be well.
