There are a bunch of idiots like that with every criminal case. The same people who say that Jodi's murdered boyfriend shouldn't have used her for sex, that other girl's murdered mother shouldn't have been so strict with her, etc. It's pure victim blaming but they don't realize it because they're too caught up in their own experience. Lots of people have experienced getting cheated on, having a bad relationship, having strict parents and other comparatively trivial problems; but obviously none have been murdered and few have had loved ones murdered. So somehow they can't emotionally process the huge moral gap that stands between "being somewhat of a scumbag" and "literally murdering a human being".

The DNA back then suggested it was a female and the LAPD covered it up. They were also told by the victim's father that Lazarus was most likely the killer and they ignored him. The family petitioned the LAPD to do further DNA testing in the 90s so the LAPD destroyed all the DNA evidence they had. Thankfully the bite mark DNA was out of their hands.

The interrogators already went in with the prior knowledge that the DNA matched. So it becomes somewhat of a cat and mouse game. But from her total dread making her not able to remember and speak normally ever since the officers said John Rutten, and "his wife" all you know you have to do is keep pushing, with Stephanie being able(edit) to detect as little as she can about the intent. But if Stephanie would've been smart and realised the officers would need to know more already for them to ask her about the case NOW, then she could've wrapped the whole thing up right after it became clear they were on to her murder.

They had enough probable cause to arrest her from the get-go, they just wanted to see if she would crack and piece it together for them so they had the whole story. Yes, I know what you mean. Pretending to be human is a good way to put it. Some of these murderers have that look, you can see it in their eyes, it's like there isn't a human being behind them but some other thing. It's uncanny because otherwise they look like a regular person, and they can pretend they are normal for short periods of time. But sometimes the facade fails and you can suddenly see it was like a human being disguise. You can tell that "people" who have that look are just evil, that they have no conscience. I am not sure I believe in things like demons or demonic possession, but "people" like that make me think that maybe there is something to it.

The fact that she is saying she “might” submit to a DNA test or a swab (she’s leaving herself room to say “no” later), not “yes, I will submit, because I know that will prove I’m innocent,” is a powerful indicator of her guilt. She has no reason not to cooperate with them. She hasn’t been charged with anything at this point, she has not been arrested yet, she has absolutely nothing to lose, and yet she hesitates to commit. Why is that? Because she knows the evidence will probably prove her guilty.

@@promontorium damn, that’s… rough. I mean if I was in their position, given all the credible evidence presented against her, it wouldn’t matter if she was blood or if I loved her so much. Cold-hearted murder is not and never will be an excuse. Sure, she needs therapy and rehab coz I think she definitely has issues that needs to be resolved but after that, I don’t think I’d support her.

@@elliered8335 It's rough that she got caught this many years later. So many people do so many stupid things when they're young because they lack the foresight and temperament to handle adult situations. I feel bad for her family because the person they know is likely not the person that murdered that woman 20+years ago. I'm sure I could be wrong though.

I feel really sorry for Stephanie Lazarus’ husband. Can you imagine how hurt he must have felt? When he learned that his wife was going to prison for the 25-year-old murder of the wife of a former lover. She had likely committed that murder before he even knew her.

to answers Rae's question "why couldn't they do the same thing before [get Stephanie's DNA]" on 4:13. In my opinion, they never suspected Stephanie for 3 reasons I could think of. The first being Sherri was murdered in 1986 and when police started using DNA samples to discover the criminals it was during the same years, so DNA testing was relatively new. However, I can see why Rae thought they should've done that before. The second reason ties into the first is that there were identified suspects already so they didn't seem to need to search for other suspects when a witness said they saw them. Even though they never caught the suspects there is still a third reason why Stephanie was never caught at that time. Stephanie was already 2 years into the police force, and usually back then you wouldn't expect a police officer to commit murder. So, she was right under their nose for 25 years, which was smart in my opinion. Nevertheless, Stephanie did not process that DNA testing would advance to what it is now or the time she was arrested. So in a nutshell, don't commit murder bc forensics are so advanced nowadays that even leaving a strand of your dog's hair could get you caught LMAOOO

It's crazy to me that you could murder someone and then get away, living your life for the next two decades thinking its all behind you- on top of that you're a cop so it seems you would be the least suspicious- until suddenly it finally gets back to you while conversing with your coworkers. That's so crazy!

Thank you for not pausing the video every 20 seconds to interject like other commentary videos do! Doing a commentary video doesn't mean you have to be constantly talking all the time. It also doesn't mean that you have to try super hard to be entertaining or totally embellish every reaction. Most of us just want to see a somewhat normal human beings reaction, and so thank you lol. You earned my sub!
