It’s a scope with old school German construction, I have them, with modern Japanese lenses. It is a very well made first focal plane scope that balances the FFP with excellent fine crosshairs. Pulling a lot of light in low light conditions is always an advantage. The internal adjustments are positive and consistent. Excellent optics.

I would like to do that with mine, it is just a little hard to get the gumption up to do that to a perfect condition scope of this grade without knowing the best way to execute the process. lol thanks.

Very nice review Richard, thank you. I wonder if the age of the inner erector tube scopes might be at an end for ELR, with this Valdada being the swan song. Definitely the king of the straight dialers. Mark and Sam in Australia also like it and did a review recently. All eyes in the ELR community in the states is on the March Genesis, and it solves at least one of the problems you described- decreased image performance at the limits. The Genesis is always at optical center line supposedly. I use a combination of a Charlie Tarac and a Recknagel Era-Tac adjustable base to avoid having to push the limits of an erector tube and maintain the best optical quality, which is yet another way to skin the cat. Hopefully I can do a video of that solution soon to compare.

Enjoying the no-bs scope reviews! Seems few other reviewers understand the value for money equation. Everyone can't or doesn't want to buy a $3k scope for every rifle. How about doing some lower-end to mid-range FFP dialer reviews like the Falcon S18, Athlon Midas Tac, Primary Arms 3-18, SWFA 3-15, etc.? Big plus to those available in the US as well.

Hi Richard. Thanks for all the great reviews so far. I am looking for one scope to do all (sound impossible right?). Now I have a 12fpe PCP but I am planning to get into firearms side as well. What I do not like to end up with is several mid-tiers scopes, instead, I want to buy once cry once and use it in all guns with quick detach mounts. Do you think IOR recon 4-28 is a way to go? I am undecided between delta FFP (new locking turrets version) and recon 4-28. I would really appreciate your advice on this. Thanks!

Fantastic review of a scope I had been wondering about since I first became aware of it. It looks like Val @ Valdada has hit it out of the park big time with this scope. Richard, over the years you have convinced me to buy a Crusader, a Recon, and a Delta Stryker HD (4.5-30), and now I have to consider the G2. I may have to have a new rifle built to justify it! And I wish someone would import the Delta scopes into the US as the UK has restrictions on scope exports. I had to buy mine through Krale in the Netherlands.

The only thing I think the ior recon has over the valdada gen 2 is the second second zero on the elevation turret. Any thoughts on the ior turret vs the gen 2 considering turret diameter and the second zero? One other thought is that the valdada grn 2 seem like it would be a better choice for use with a charlie tarac considering the parallax is on the turret housing not the tube(might be a stronger setup).

I had the option of choosing this over the crusader recently. I don't have the $ for both haha. I chose the Crusader because I wanted the extra mag range, I like the look and layout of the IOR's better, and because the G2 is new and hasn't really been put through the ringer yet. The crusader is just a beast of a scope though, which is why I love it. I could have gone either way though tbh. Valdada makes some nice optics though and I wouldn't expect them to put out something that doesn't stand up to their IOR counterparts.

Thank you for your reviews. I am in the market for a new scope. Price limit +/- 3.5K US. I do have an astigmatism and the best scope I owned and for me the easiest to look trough was by far the Hensoldt 4x16. I did however need a little more power so I sold it and got an SB 5-25 which was pretty forgiving and relaxing on my eye, not as good as the Hensoldt but not bad at all. I later traded it for the lighter SB 5-20 ultra short which I currently still have and it is terrible. Very unforgiving Eyebox and I find myself squinting all the time to get a good picture. Not knowing how my astigmatism is related exactly to comfort behind a scope and and what too look for when going over specs of any particular scope, is there anything you could point me to? I would like it to be 25 power as a min on the high end. Currently I am considering going back to a SB 5x25 or SB 3x27 perhaps? Not sure how the stack up against each other. The ZCO527 is in the running as well, I hear good things about them. All priced well in my justifiable range. And yes, the Hensoldt 26 power and the TT 525 are out of my reach at this time although they might offer the solution I am looking for, some other time perhaps.Anyways, type of shooting I do is mostly of a bench, prone and some of barricades/stages with a 6.5 creedmoor Sako TRG-22 out to 1200 yards at the most. Any advise is appreciated.

I had the Parallax as far as it would go and it was just starting to get focused enough to see the target, and not well. I called Brian over at Edgun and let him know. He asked for me to send him an email explaining, and we would go from there. Uggghhh. I have a competition shoot next weekend. Loved everything about the scope until today. First time out and only finger tight on the mounts just to look through it.

@@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK I still like the FOV of the Vortex Razor HD 2. The resolution isn't the best, but they sell for $1800 or less sometimes in the US

Beast doesn't make the list because it's only a 5-25 and absolutely comedy club money. USO I'm looking at in detail soon but the 5-25 means it'll have to be sensible money to compete, or offer something very special. Vortex AMG isn't on the list because it's not this type of scope - it's a 6-24 lightweight offering. Trik 4-20 isn't in this category either. There are lots of good scopes out there but this review is about high-mag full fat tactical diallers.

Major evasion at 38:30 - Richard, would you sell your CRUSADER for this RECON-G2: I thought you danced around the answer saying things like the two scopes are not comparable in size, glass tint and mag range. How could the latter be?! They are very close in magnification though the CRUSADER has more top end. It seems you are trying to lead most of us to believe the RECON-G2 is the way to go, but between the lines, it sure sounds like you still prefer the CRUSADER.

Hi John. I struggle to see how I evaded the question, given that i posed it myself publicly on my video...I think i could have evaded it a bit better by...not mentioning it...:D All the best, Richard

@@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK I too wanted to hear the answer to your preference between the CRUSADER and the RECON-G2. You stated a question and then very carefully did not answer it. Isn't that evasion? Look, I like your show and don't mean to show any disrespect. So thank you for your videos and Merry Christmas.

Hey Richard, love your content! I just placed an order for the IOR Crusader 5.8-40x56 with a one piece Spuhr mount. After watching reviews from both you and Rex. It wasnt a hard choice. Its going to be used for PRS sniper matches and normal prone class shooting. (F-class unlimited etc) Hopefully I wont get dissapointed, I dont have any personal experience with IOR from before. And I have indeed seen a lot of "Hate" towards the brand, not really knowing why.

And folks who have good setups I say "Hey Great Setup man - good to go"
