vacant (maybe) open & rekey

In this video we were called to open & rekey a property.
Note: We stopped providing service for evictions back in 2020, this one however fell under a particular set of circumstances so here we are 🤷‍♂️

Looks like that door needs a strike adjust, when you could just shim the latch

JFC, that was a gigantic stress bomb. Never a good sign when you have to note that the engine block would be a nice shield. Glad it all worked out ok. Also great of you to keep that weapon holstered-way to go 🤣🎉

Talk about multi-tasking, installing a re-keyed lock and answering a customer call all while looking over shoulder to make sure the tenant doesn't show up or the LEO doesn't decide to get jumpy.

Wow, never had deputies ask me about my ccw. They usually seem more worried about the people being evicted shooting at them then me...a law abiding citizen. Also..."keep it holstered" what an odd thing to say. I wont pull it until I need to, just like LEOs...should.

Me either. I tell them I have cc and I am carrying and so far all LEO have either just said okay or that’s good. I’ve never been told to keep it holstered.

Procedures are much different in California than your area. I do about 2-4 evictions a week. Sheriffs have me park 1-2 homes down. Once everything is ready to go. I stay back by the van. And the sheriffs try to gain access. When they can’t. That’s when I’m called up to open the door. Sheriffs are always within a couple feet of me when I’m picking them open. Once I unlock the locks. I never open the door. I walk away and the sheriffs open the door. No one steps foot in the home until after the sheriff’s clear the entire property unless they need me to open another door. It’s been probably 6-8 years now. But some idiot waited for the sheriff’s to call up the locksmith to open the door in Modesto, Ca. He then started shooting through the door killing two sheriffs and the locksmith. I take all evictions serious. Most problems will happen when the door is first opened. I’m not the one with a bullet proof vest or gun. Let them handle the initial entry

Woah, police presence adds a little more anticipation, don't know how you can stomach some of those vacant rekeys.

Seemed like the cop just wanted to throw around his authority. Asking for your permit and stating the obvious for you to keep the weapon holstered. Must have been board with nothing better to do. Thanks for the belt cam view of all the action, cheers

Here in San Francisco a lot of us (locksmiths) have taken to wearing body armor on eviction day. Times are changing.

Alot of Sheriff departments in my area have been busting open the door. They stopped having crews move out all the belongings to the curb around 2000. The worst is reaching in and unscrewing a door chain not knowing if someone is still in there.

Though I totally respect yours skills (which are far beyond my own) I wonder why you don’t use a hand drill on these types of re-keys just to get out of there a little quicker? At least it was a nice day!

Know what you mean Jason, I would go in questionable neighborhoods by myself also. I had no concealed carry, only a stun gun.Going into vacant buildings was scary, and some danger was involved.

I don’t know why you would blur out police officers faces that’s kind of weird. You’re legally allowed to video them. There’s no crime.
