wood window locks - key making - impressioning
In this video we are going to take a look at, and make keys for, a wood double hung window lock. These locks were typically found on older houses and sometimes called sash locks.
I had a house just a few weeks ago with about 20 of these on them and every single one, painted over one way screws so no choice but to make keys by impressioning. Customer had a very typical 1980’s add on to the house so there ended up being three different keys for all of his. Luckily most were on one key (the originals)
So no, one key doesn’t work them all for those consumers that are invariably going to send me a email asking for a key to be mailed to them. Call a locksmith, if they don’t know how show them this video (which will probably piss them off)

Great Job. You Are A Modern Times Hank Spicer. The Original Filing For Dollars Master Locksmith. 👍
Your videos are great. I'm working on being a residential/commercial locksmith and your videos are the most informative that I've found for that. Thanks
People don't think Jason's impressions are funny but they pay him well to do them. 😂
Always neat! I get these type of lock requests..problem is no body wants to pay for it or my time.” Well I can just buy me another one of them locks for $10.00 at the hardware store” ( exaggerated but you get the point)
For some of us that aren't as lucky as guessing how far down and over a 3 is in position 4, another way to do this would be to use our code machine and just take the first mark which looks to be in position 3 and cut a one depth there, if it marks again, cut a two depth there, etc. I find it really hard to nibble a small amount using the Lishi cutters. In my younger days, the masters would do it exactly as Jason did, but if it wasn't smooth enough they would just file the top of the plug until it became smooth, which of course increased the number of operating keys a scosh. As always, thanks Jason for sharing your knowledge.
I really appreciate this, I struggle with impressioning but it's a skill I need to learn
This is a great skill you mastered Jason. I have done very little impression but you made it look easy and fast Thanks for sharing

I've practiced but have never really done well with impressioning. Skill indeed!
Great video. I remember having these latches on our windows growing up, but I have never seen one with a lock before. I can just imagine trying to impression one next to what I suspect is thin single pain glass.
Wow that glass is a real pane to work around! Great video as always Jason, thanks for showing this 😊👏 P.s. - would definitely be interested in seeing the Peter Fox holder in the store! 😊
I am impressed as always :)
Great video! Thanks Jason!
Nice super informative thanks Jason!
Very nice - Good Job
Nice video.
I saw an old forum thread I believe it was where he made 6 of those Lishi Duplicators and they were stamped 2018. It looked like that batch were done in more or less a small machine shop and he made some before that using a drill press, hack saw and other hand tools. I always wanted to build one as he posted measured plans and later and some cad drawings. Vice Grips work, but the Fox Duplicator is certainly better and to me it has a huge cool factor.
Another great video there sir.. I'm still working on getting better using the Lishi cutters for impressioning smaller keys... I do hope y'all start to sell that clamp that you used in the Lishi Cowboy video , it will help .... Keep up the good work ....
Thanks! Interesting. *Double* Hung windows, *No* "fixed" window, *BOTH* move. : } yes? *Hi!* Update: I get it now, you were speaking of LOCK, Not window. oops "This" = lock part. sorry lol Words took wrong turn again in my head, perhaps lost [key]. cheers!
Market the clamp 👍
would scope with a scope or even an endoscope.
