V-Strom 650 Footpeg lowering Kit + Gearshift Extender

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I really like my v-strom 650 however as someone who is tall it feels like the ergonomics were not designed for someone over 6', which is common. I found a kit from Adventure tech that not only lowered my footpegs 1" but they also extended the gear shifter forward to extend it to accommodate larger shoes sizes more easily. They sell these parts for the v-strom 650 and v-strom 1000. This video will show you how to install these parts and see how they work with my size 13 shoe

I’m back! I cannot thank you enough for making this vid. Absent you, I never would’ve discovered this kit. It’s truly been life changing. You’ve got hero status in my books.

About the time you posted this video I installed mine from AdventureTech. I discovered the same improvements you did. Also raised the bars 30mm. Shifting feels more natural..

Many thanks for this walk through! The adventuretech video made it seem like the cotter pin had to be removed from the inside first which made no sense to me. Much easier using your method of removing the pegs first! 👍

Great vid! I am also 6' 3" and I weigh 215. I noticed that the pegs on my Vstrom 650XT (2017) were actually higher than my Verses X300... legs too bent (34 inch inseam). I lowered my pegs 2 inches, but the new pegs I bought (much wider metal ones with teeth, not sharp teeth), slant UP at the outer end so I only lost about 1 inch of "peg scrape" clearance. I also added 2 inch pivoting Rox Risers and now I LOVE the seat/bar/peg triangle. HOWEVER, one problem with my lowered pegs: my brake light stayed on, would not go off and not enough adjustment to fix it. I fabricated a 1/8 inch think aluminum "U" shaped brake link - longer than the stock one (I used 6066 T6 aluminum). The part I made is the upside-down "U" that is about 3 inches behind the right foot peg, that links to the brake plunger rod. It's about twice as long as the stock part and now works perfectly. Haven't made any long, interstate trips yet, but I've been on most of the day and love the comfort. I added a Sit-n-Fly seat cover and HIGHLY recommend it - also easy to add some closed cell foam under it it desired. I've don't that one other bikes, but so far not needed on the Vstrom. I also have a Husaberg FE390 that I'm using for riding the Trans America Trail - about 1/2 done so far. Thanks LOADS for your videos, really enjoying them. - GeezerWheels in SW Colorado (Yep, "Geezer" - I'm 74).

For my 2021 weestrom, I fashioned my own brackets from 6mm steel plate. I used coupling nuts to extend the brake pushrod. Easy job.

Just be ready when you do this, as there is a reason you don't see him remove the peg bolts. I don't know what Suzuki was thinking, but my peg bolts were so tight from the factory that I had to run out and buy a "special" hex wrench, as all the ones I had would just round off. In the end, it took probably 75 foot pounds of torque. And when they did finally break loose, each one made mighty "POP", and white smoke rings shot out - seriously. No way would I ever attempt to do this to another V-Strom without some way to heat those 4 little chrome, panhead hex bolts to almost cherry red first.

Hi Many thanks for the video. I am stuck in this process. I did the brake side first it’s ok but adjusting it is quite difficult. I am stuck with the shifter side as to add the extender I need the small nuts to come off but they aren’t. The are quite delicate as well and I don’t want to use force. I have used wd40 and tried some force but they are not budging. Any suggestions plz?

If I recall correctly, I think that the 650 stock triangle (grips/pegs/seat) was designed around a rider that was around 5'10" and 170 lbs?

You'll need these 4mm and 5mm allen key. 8, 12 and 13 mm wrench. Needle nose pliers. Regular pliers. Clip pin pliers. Also I used vice grips to remove the shifter post. Blue lock tight. I think that's it.
