Recommend wipping the Ali down with denatured alcohol or meths to remove any leftover oils and residue before gluing which may help

Watch your fingers when using that chisel. I was always taught.... hands behind the cutting edge. Suggest your readers follow this, and use a vice when cleaning up. Thx

great idea. I've just started segmenting blanks but both times I've used aluminum and epoxy the both have failed. So I've started to use CA glue and that works better for me.

Lynn - Can't say you didn't try. Sitting here watching your videos as I am new at this and learned a lot here too. Believe I need to make a few jigs to include your sled I saw in the previous. Might be spending the day just watching and learning. Thanks again

The drill bits and machine movements pulled them apart . I guess you did not secure the entire piece in an enclosure to support those glued pieces ?

Thanks for the instructions. Looking forward to seeing the next one completed. A couple questions please. Can't you use double sided carpet tape to hold the 2 blanks together and make your cuts on the bandsaw match perfectly? How do you drill the center? I'm always a little off center. Have tried drilling on the lathe and on the drill press.

+Jim Nottingham Hey Jim, not sure about the two sided tape, I'll look into that. I've used both the lathe and drill press to drill but mostly use the drill press. The lathe is a bit smoother with less vibration though. Thanks for watching.

I am glad to find out I am not the only one that messes up.. Something to consider try, while drilling to reverse the direction on each size step up. As you probably know when you drill a metal a bur forms on the bottom side of the hole. Could this be forcing the blank apart? Just an idea. Might I ask what is the TPI on the bandsaw blade Thanks Lynn for another great video

+Dave White Thanks Dave, always good to hear from you. Nice suggestion on reversing the bit, I actually hadn't thought of that and I think the blade is 3/16 wide X. 4 tpi? I'm out of town but will confirm if different. Thanks again for watching

Hi Lynn. Hey, I ran into the same kind of issue when I made the pen for your pen swap. My insert was brass and as hard as I tried to keep the bit cool, the brass got hot and the epoxy joint failed. The second go around, I pre-drilled the brass with a slightly smaller bit before I epoxied the blank. That seemed to help a bit. The final drill didn't have to remove so much material so the brass didn't heat up as much. Heat and epoxy don't go well together. Also, I found the 5 minute epoxy didn't fair so well, so I switched to the 24 hour kind. I think the longer cure time made for a more durable bond. Just my two cents!! Cheers, Rich
