I had UFE on 23rd January and I'm already feeling slight changes in the bulk of the uterus. Feel such a difference. I was so nervous prior to procedure but the team were absolutely brilliant and it wasn't as bad as I had thought. A friend referred me to this video. She had fibroid removed and another friend had a partial hysterectomy. I think I may have fibroids as well. Ive always had heavy menstrual cycles but 5 years ago I had my tubes tied due to not wanting anymore children and also I was told my cervix was weak. Ever since, I would have a normal cycle and for an additional week I'd have old blood come out. So basically a period 2 weeks out of a month and now for the past 3 months im having 2 full periods a month and still old brown blood and old brown clots still coming after my periods. Why go to an OB/GYN? They do not perform this procedure. Hopefully, they will inform you of ALL options, but most do not. They usually inform you of what they have been trained to do ( surgery ), and not non-surgical treatments.

This is GREAT INFO! I had an embolization many years ago they went into my femoral artery. No follow up after, first time Radiologist did procedure and was not fully educated on this. A few days later i was back in the hospital for 2 wks with CDiff. Years later my Fibroid is back and it's larger. Scared to go back however you gave good info and now I'm encouraged.

Did it last week, but had to go via the groin because my arteries are too small in my wrist. It went well, but was in so much pain for 2 days. By the 4th day I felt better. Still taking all my meds. Hope my tummy goes down soon, as I had big fibroids.

I just started my period yesterday, very light, no clumping clots, or anything, no pain. Everybody is different. I had very large fibroids and was bleeding Stage 5 overnight pads every 20 minutes with large clots the size of lemons. The first two days after the procedure I felt nauseous and cramps I just use the heating pad. I didn't take the Percocet but Aleve they prescribed works really good

My OBs in NJ suggested many things (1 Dr in Woodland Park 1 in Clifton; who did my minor uterine surgery, that did not rectify the issue do the size of these fibroids & how many; 1 large in diameter & multiple clusters). I have a Wonderful Board Certified OB here (she's a top dog here honestly; she's a fellow, on the Hospital Board etc for like 20 years & started her own practice). I'm on treatments now (extremely Strong medication to control the massive bleeding). I don't want the Partial Hysterectomy, that I've ultimately been suggested to have (& neither does my Husband or my mother who actually had one~ oddly enough about the same age as I am now, she's in her 60s). So I’ll tell you the after pain cramping is to be expected... in all honesty!!! You will bed two weeks off from work !!! Nauseous from the time you finish surgery until bout 1week later ... pain medication are needed I’m not a pill person and I definitely needed them ... you will be in discomfort so prepare your living room or bedroom for a long stay . Bathroom and bed that’s it .... I’m being brutally honest!!! It’s a get from god to be able to do this process but you will experience discomfort so be prepared

I had them in 1999 age 29. Had a Myomectomy. Diagnosed again in 2014. Tried all I knew BC, exercise, acupuncture, chiropractor, herbs, teas, diet changes, no more relaxers due to estrogen, I am 53 now; scheduled next week for UFE. It went very well. It was uncomfortable, however the nurses and medical staff made sure I was comfortable. My cycle started right after my procedure. I stayed overnight so pain could be managed. I'm home at it's been about 6 days after and I feel good. My cycle was much lighter. So no more flooding and heavy bleeding. I can even start to see a small reduction in my lower abdomen. This was completely worth it.

I have Firebirds do they have to be removed I just found out that I had them I've been feeling this pain for a year ago and I was telling my doctor and she was telling me that she didn't see anything and I just found out last weekend that I have fibroids do they have to be removed I have to go to bathroom so much like every five seconds also have back pains and heavy periods so do they have to be removed I never been through this I am trying not to worry as much

There's research that shows sucess rates for women who've gotten pregnant after the procedure. I read some articles/case studiies published in medical publications (sorry I don't have those links handy). I did some research at a university library. Everyone is different. I have now seen two specialists here in Sydney, one of them the best in Australia, who told me that I have Adenomyosis and need a hysterectomy. A bit of a shock at first, but I need to get it done, the mass is sitting on my bladder. I don't want to have kids; I only want quality of life, so I am going ahead with it. So I feel I am in a place where I am full circle with the situation. I will still see a psychologist because I think I will need support to deal with the change. If you are having bladder issues, get some Poise or adult incontenance pads or just some regular pads and keep them with you in case of leakage. Meanwhile do your research here on dietary changes. Exercise and see your gynecologist. Fibroids don’t last forever. You’ll be okay. Just keep researching and asking ?s until you find the solution that is right for you.

I don't even have any difficulties of any kind and my doctor found fibroids and quickly wanted to remove "everything". 😳. If I would not have watched this video I was have had an unnecessary surgery-she also wanted to open me from "side to side to see everything first hand". It's so archaic to do such a procedure, especially when I don't have any uncomfortable effects in my life. Hysterectomies should be taken seriously and used as a very last resort.

Very knowlegdeable and great topic of UFE DR Cheryl..my question is if you done this procedures can stlllhave children? i have a small fibroid in my ultrasound result that caused me a month bleeding, and my DR,s advice me to do Marina procedure and i can't be pregnant/children anymore.. So this UFE procedure can affect my fertility?.

I had it in March. The aftermath pain was too much. I stayed hospitalised for three days to control the pain. They sent me home with strong pain pills, too. I'm having my first period after the procedure this week. It's heavy and painful. I also had continuous mild nausea since.

How can I get this doctor, I am in Spain with big fibroids I need to remove as I need baby soon

Thank you Jesus that I found this video. Today is Thursday night and on Monday somebody in OB/GYN office will call me for my schedule of my hysterectomy laparoscopic surgery. The OB told me that if I choose the embolization he will do D & C and the embolization is very painful. Is D& C really needed for this procedure? I’m not bleeding at all. Whats bothering me is only my pelvic floor like it will drop, sometimes the lower back pain and it cramps sometimes. It says in the result my left ovary is not visualized .Is this why i need to have d&c? Thank you in advance Doctor for the answer of my questions.

Very important question.

I'm going to have a consultation next year for this procedure and the part that gives me anxiety is the catheter in my arm. I HATE getting my blood drawn and don't like needles under my skin for long periods of time. Do you receive anesthesia ? What can you do to relax before the procedure.

@@pseudonamed I had my UFE procedure at Piedmont Atlanta in Georgia and they gave me Fentanyl for my procedure.I was awake but felt like a zombie during the procedure.You won't feel any pain during the procedure but after the procedure you will cry like a baby from all the pain about three days or more.If you ever felt labor pain its triple the pain.Best of luck.

Oh wow! Congratulations! I have the procedure scheduled for later this month. Can you talk more about your pain management and recovery? I chose my doctor due to the types of meds he prescribes for after the procedure. Use of fentanyl seems to be common during the procedure, but I know some docs prescribe oxycontin for aftercare. Percocet or something lighter seems more suitable for me.

@@Nynia3252 the pain was quite severe 2-3 days later but it lasted only 5-7 days. They gave me block so I was fine first 1-2 days. I took cellebrex at first then ibuprofen since I’m sensitive to pain meds.. I’ve had some bleeding and spotting for the first 4 weeks then I got my period which lasted 9 days wasn’t too heavy. However my second period post procedure- this month- was very heavy lasted 7 days. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!!! You will do fine!!

It is pretty painful to be honest straight after surgery.I've had a ruptured ovarian cyst with bleeding into my pelvis which I thought was bad but post UFE pain can be really savage.I had to have a 2 night hospital stay to get my pain under control and I was on a PCA fentanyl pump for both days. I'm 4 days out of surgery and still getting nausea but the cramping is much better. I would prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best scenario which would be an overnight stay. It's a minimally invasive procedure but you need to give yourself time and enough of it to heal at your own pace. No 2 surgeries are going to be the same.

@@maxsanemitchell1609 if you don't have to go the hysterectomy route, UFE is a less invasive procedure with less downtime. I have a tennis ball sized fibroid combined with adenomyosis and it was a very viable option over just taking the lot out. I would make sure you consult with a good reputable interventional radiologist before you decide to ensure all your options are explored so you don't make a decision you might regret later 😊
